Nintendo @ E3 - No Direct, Just Zelda Treehouse Stream

If Zelda isn't terribly disappointing, it'll be the game of the show anyway.

Still i can't understand their strategy. If it wasn't coming to NX, ok. But if it is, and the NX version will have more importance for Nintendo (cause NX still has chances), why in hell focusing so much on the inferior WiiU version of the game, that will do nothing for WiiU this late anyway.. it makes no sense at all. Even guys with a WiiU already could wait for the NX version. I know i would do that!

(Unless.. NX isn't more powerful than WiiU ??)

This is how I feel.

Even the indie games shown at the Sony pre-conference show and MS' conference are artsy, style over substance games.

Where are all the fun, gameplay driven games like Super Meat Boy, Shovel Knight, Yooka-Laylee, Bloodstained...? It would be inaccurate for me to say I'm Nintendo/indie gamer because nowadays the indie games that appeal to me are only a small subset. We need a new term.

Again, there is absolutely no way to tell if the NX version will be "superior" to the Wii U version. Chances are the visuals will be the exact same, and the game may be tailored for touchscreen/Wii U controls, something the NX may not have.

It's arguable the GameCube version of Twilight Princess was superior to the Wii version (no waggling for attack and manual camera).

Due to the heavily stylized look of Zelda, i can see the NX version not looking that much better than the Wii U version, maybe some more details, more detailed view and so on.
 
Has there been revealed any info on how long today's treehouse stream will last?

Reason for asking: I won't be able to tune in until 2-3 hours after it starts, but I don't want to be spoiled. The spoiler free-thread might not get updated until it's finished?

Based on Damon Baker's mention at the YT stream, I think it was said there will be announcements during the Nintendo livestream(s) so I suspect we may hear about this, as well as Picross 3D 2, N-Stars, and If this week's EU PR spotlighting a related theme is any indication, and I think it is, then BOXBOY! 2 should be shown also.
 
Although the Zelda remasters are not entirely done by Nintendo's internal team, over the last 5 - 6 years, they have probabaly learned so much about their past output from remastering a large proportion of their 3D games. It's going to be interesting to see how they capture 'the essence of Zelda, as Aonuma puts it, for something entirely new.

Because Nintendo has a recent history of being terrible at marketing their new consoles.
They are just really disconnected with what gamers expect, they would absolutely steal the show (for the first time in years, and by not having a regular conference (but a direct rather)) if they took most of their e3 time for presenting the NX and the games they are working on for it right now.

I guess they just want to not completely kill the Wii U sales for this summer, but as an outsider this looks like a marginal gain compared to the hype they could build around their new (not dead yet) system, by just talking about it.

Nintendo being Nintendo again.
 
Did somebody in here seriously say Twilight Princess' art style was "mindblowing?"

That was easily the worst art style of any Zelda game. Those characters were hideous.

I'm still betting on a Space World revival to give out all the hype and info they can offer for NX.
 
Alright today is Zelda day. There's been so many grassy open world games lately, so I'm excited to see what Nintendo has to offer to the genre.

I...am not sure yet, haha. I guess I am certain at least I won't be watching the major lengthy Treehouse stream.and plan to avoid related spoilers. Haven't decided yet if I will watch what comes before that. Presuming they don't show hunting during the trailer, I definitely still want a PM as to whether it is shown during the Treehouse stream, if you don't mind. Thanks!

That's because ms' and sony's offerings are more of the same. Nintendo will keep whatever innovation they have close to their chest until close to launch.

How can it be dead when we don't even know if its alive yet? So far nothing about the platform and its direction has been confirmed, other than it being "new".

Now apparently it was also delayed too.

NX has its own unveiling at a later date, But that hasn't stopped other sources from mentioning it at E3 (like Ubisoft).

I also think Nintendo said before E3 that they would show indies tomorrow on the 2nd day of Treehouse? I don't have a source for that now, though.

Anyhow, the show today will not start with Zelda AFAIK. It will start with Pokemon.

It's more intriguing than that actually:

Just Dance 2017 will be available on all motion-control gaming platforms, including Nintendo's Wii™, Wii U™ and NX systems

I think some sort of motion control support on NX is the first thing we actually know about NX.
 
Just in case the very few people who think the NX is still a handheld, it's a console with another console game, Just Dance, being announced for it.

We were debating this a little last night. Did your see our convo ITT? The first PR about Pokémon and Zelda two weeks ago made it sound like there would be Pokémon showing first. Then last week's PR made it sound like Zelda first potentially. So it's kinda unclear what will happen.
