Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Sigh, I wonder if they will ever fix these idle clocks. My 1080 Gaming X is at 1215MHz core clock/5006MHz memory clock when completely idle on desktop with multiple monitors. Same issue has plagued nvidia cards for years now, although for whatever reason some people seem to avoid it. Even few reviewers managed to use multiple monitors with 1080 at lower clocks but not me, I never get that lucky with GPUs.

The MSI GTX 1070 Founder's Edition has been available for Pre-order on Amazon for a full day now.

It has to be a mistake. None of the other preorders last longer than 15 minutes.

Really?! I've heard several reports of FE(?) owners on reddit that this particular issue has been resolved :(

Lucky people. Two monitors seem fine for most people, three and the clockspeeds ramp up really high. Too bad I always use three. Also with two monitors clockspeeds go really high if I start playing a Blu-ray, again something that was tested to remain at low clock speeds but I bet it was only tested with one monitor. Here's my results so far:

One monitor fine (215MHz core, or well, I didn't actually test this but it's 215MHz at most)
Two monitors fine (215MHz)
Three monitors not fine (~1200MHz)
One monitor + Blu-ray fine (didn't test but I assume it's fine)
Two monitors + Blu-ray not fine (~1700MHz)
Three monitors + Blu-ray not fine (~1700MHz)

Need to do some more testing but this isn't good news at all. I also read those threads with people saying this is finally fixed but there were also few people here and there saying it wasn't fixed and it really wasn't fixed.

Nvidia inspector got a thing that can limit the clocks at idle. Only thing is that if it is enabled before afterburner it messes up overclocks. But if you make it so that inspector has a delayed launch at startup so afterburner or whatever starts first it's fine.

Thanks, that's a good tip.

I should add that this MSI 1080 Gaming X is absolutely wonderful so far. Played some Witcher 3 and Total War Warhammer and what can I say, I wanted a quiet GPU and I got it. I'm set for few years at least.

edit: Forza Apex seems completely broken with this GPU/latest drivers. Core clock drops from desktop (in my case 1200-1700MHz) down to 772MHz when I start Forza Apex and remains stuck at 772MHz, unless I alt-tab out of the game. When I alt-tab back, the GPU clock drops back down. Same with memory clocks, stuck at 810MHz when in Forza. Needless to say performance is really bad.

The Microcetner near me had an open box EVGA 1080 FE in stock for $626.

Got in the car, refreshed the web page on my phone to see if they still had it, and it was gone :(

Spoke to Scan today, they have some ROG Strix 1080's coming in today (I ordered mine last Sat), but mine isn't available until Fridays shipment.

:(

Still waiting on a ship date for my super bare bones EVGA 1080 that was $620 from Amazon.

EK block and backplate should be arriving this week.

Well it looks like I fucked up ordering from Scan, they had no qualms taking £585 immediately but have now pushed back the shipping date till the 22nd.

I should have bought that Gigabyte G1 from ebuyer. Paper launches are a joke.

So, my nVidia FE has started to, very occasionally, produce a slight "flicker" (but not a full screen off/on) with horizontally banded glitched lines. It seems to only happen on my desktop, so not under D3D or OGL load. The card is stable for multiple passes of Firestrike, Unigine Heaven, Unigine Valley, Furmark, and multiple hours of Overwatch.

Anyone have any ideas or heard of this? Already tried a different DP cable, different DP port, all I haven't tried is a different monitor but I doubt that's the issue as I was running iGPU previously without ever seeing this.

Happens very seldom. Already sent a return request to nVidia support but I shudder at the thought of dealing with a return via Digital River.

Try forcing 3d clock all the time with 'prefer maximum performance' in nvidia driver.

I've seen the same thing. At least as far as I've seen...it seemed to be caused by a massive change in the clock speed on the GPU. I've noticed it happening the most when switching to a menu in Witcher 3.

They all seem to be good and overclock similarly. Just get the one that's available.

Thank you. I feel much better about this incredibly stupid purchase =)

Edit: I'm still very new to PC gaming, and have a lot left to learn. Never overclocked a card before (or spent $650 on a computer component), so I want to make sure I'm getting a good one.

My microcenter got the evga sc in stock and is priced at $800! Are they fucking kidding me? I'm not paying that bullshit. Can't even pricematch newegg because they're out of stock

Anyone tried playing Mirror's Edge Catalyst yet? I was going to stress test to see if I can replicate the temp issue I was getting playing Doom, and I can't get this game to fully use the GPU. For some reason power is at 3% and I am only getting 949MHz. Mem is down to 4500 as well.

All the settings are on hyper. Vsync off. Mem restriction is off. Still nothing.

Yeah I saw that too, are you in the DFW area? I would boycott microcenter but their mobo/cpu bundles are too good :P. Do you know if they got others in? I can't even find the cards on their website.

I'm in saint Louis. I have a friend who works there and he told me they got 4 in. 2 days ago they had 2 msi (gaming x?) in.

Anyone who preorderd G1 1080 from Amazon and recieved it yet?

I preordered mine on 3rd of june before the stock ran out and it has yet to ship.

How do you search in Microcenter for GTX 1080 cards? The category for the 1000 series cards is greyed out and when I search for all cards and organize by price, there's not a single 1080 card listed. Yet they sell them.

I'm half inclined to drop by after work to see if they have any in stock or not. Not exactly next door to me but what the hell is up with the website reflecting inaccurate stock?

I gave up on them. I'd like to buy a card there (aside from the FE I already have), but they don't seem to want to make it easy to shop online for in-store pickup. I'm like 45 minutes away, so can't just drop in. Like you said, the website is useless.
