Interesting conversation today (names changed obviously) with an old lady. She has two sons, both in their 40s, each trying rather vociferously to persuade her to vote - one for Remain and one for Leave. Lets call them Ron and Liam for ease of reference. She was confused about it all, so popped round to the shop to ask my advice.
I did the proper thing and summarised the arguments for both sides, pointed out the key considerations, added where the expert opinion seems to be. And she determined to vote Remain.
At the end, I realised I could maybe have short-cut the whole conversation, so I asked her which of her sons she most trusted.
"Well Ron obviously, he's always ready to chat and helps me out a lot and we get along really well. And he's not pushy, you know? Lets me live my own life."
"And Liam?"
"He's a bloody idiot."
