Generally left, but to call it a left-wing propaganda machine is rather simplistic and usually misses the point. More often than not they're very well balanced. They're required by law to be unbiased (an impossible requirement) but they have been very good at addressing claims of bias over the last few years.

I would agree with whoever said they lean towards whoever is in power. They were ridiculously biased during the Scottish referendum.

The polls were always tight/within the margin of error, anyone who thought either side would get a landslide is silly. I'd bet anything the delta between the final tally is < 5%
