It's racism. Sorry but it is just is. You can try to deny it but it's fundamentally the truth, the entire campaign by leave is based on fear of the other. You can deny it but it's the essentially the only thing to cost an entire nation their sense to vote in their naked self interest
Sorry, but I voted leave and I honestly have no opinion on immigration. If anything, 'leave' will probably allow more people to immigrate here due to open border agreements required to continue trading with the EU and that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm actually still baffled why Farage advertised that leave would allow more border control because everything points to the opposite :p

It is pretty much over. Remain was expected to have a slim lead at this point but Leave js doing much better than expected and is pulling away. Still early but all signs pointing to Brexit.

sorry I disagree.

I think this is very similar to what is happening in the States too with Trump.

This is fine.

I'm sure remain will pull through.

That's fair ... I'm sure there are some racist votes mixed in there. but I would bet the majority is just because they

A. Want more control over borders
B. Want a stronger national gov
C. Feel that the culture of the country is being threatened due to lack of integration

In regards to point C is that racist?

A lot of the Leave votes from older voters will stem from the fact that they feel that Britain has lost its Britishness. Whether you think that racist or not, many people genuinely have that sentiment and quite a few blame an influx of immigrants for that change.

Was surprised to see Basildon leave

Seems overall it's 52% leave 48% remain at the moment. I really thought it would be around 60% remain 40% leave.

Before people get worried, I seem to recall the Scottish ref and another vote look very close at the start but then the real picture started to unfold. You could still get many areas vote remain in a row over the course of the night

I'd just like to say, that people are born equal, no one asks to, or wants to be "uneducated" and "poor", you have no control over where you are born, or how privileged your family are, and it is the countries fault as a whole that there are areas of the country that are like this.

Not everyone that votes leave will necessarily agree with the campaigns points, and might be perfectly capable of making a decision for themselves.

Some posters in this thread are coming across as very condescending and arrogant, and maybe you can be better than that.

So, what is expected to be the most immediate change to life there if the outcome of the vote is to leave the EU? Higher cost of living across the board?

The value of the pound drops, pushing us deep into another recession. Generally increasing the cost of living.

Manufacturing industries will look to jump ship and set up elsewhere.

Goods that we import from the EU will rise in price even more without the trade deals in place.

We're leaving, unfortunately. Time to pack your bags people and get the h out of the UK. I'm moving to Italy, the home of Pasta, Pizza, Lasagne and the home of Ezio Auditore Da Firenze. Who's coming with me?

If Leave wins out it's kinda telling what the country thinks about some of its leadership - cause the major powers that be are pulling for remain, both inside Britain and in the EU.
