PlayStation Store 04/22/10 - After Burner Climax | Lead and Gold

but no trophies. Epic fail.

Truthfully, the extras you get in that game are superior to any achievement or trophy I've ever unlocked. Like the young guy's camera pictures showing up in the photo section of the XMB. Scary as hell too.

I got the impression that yours was the minority view. Maybe I'm wrong. :D

I'm probably confused. I'm probably thinking of the Pacman CE's second game/Galaga Legions. Pacman CE from the little I played of it didn't click with me the way the original Pac-man did. Maybe I've just missed the boat on the Pac-man craze.

Looks cool, but I need to play a demo first.

There's no demo in EU. Therefore: No demo for the US.

Maybe when it hits XBLA... *sigh*

So did anyone try out the PS3 version of Lead and Gold? I think I'll bite if I hear that it runs well.

Yeah, I picked it up - seems to run smoother than the PC version did for me, less framerate dips (although they're still occasionally present during hectic moments) and I haven't had as many problems with lag. The default control sensitivity felt really off to me, I had to play around with the slider a lot to get it right.

For anyone wondering what your £11.99/€14.99 gets you;

4 classes;

The Gunslinger - speed loading revolver good for close to medium range combat, his trait is fanning which allows a faster rate of fire at the cost of accuracy. He radiates an accuracy synergy effect to all teammates.

The Trapper - buffalo sniper rifle good for long range and a backup pistol, with her trait she lays traps and also radiates the incread critical chance synergy effect to teammates.

The Deputy - repeater carbine good for long to medium range and a backup revolver, the deputy's trait allows him to tag enemies making them visable to everyone on his team, plus he radiates the increased damage synergy effect.

The Blaster - shotgun good for close range plus a backup revolver, his trait allows him to throw dynamite charges and he radiates the armor synergy effect to teammates.

7 game types;

Conquest (both teams compete to conquer multiple zones, however the zones must be conquered in sequence - a, b, c, etc)
Gold Fever (co-operative game type for 2 players where you try to collect as many sacks of gold before endless waves of AI overwhelm you)
Greed (both teams compete to collect the most sacks of gold and return them to their base)
Practice
Powder Keg (attacking team must place and detonate poweder kegs to destroy objectives)
Robbery (the attacking team must steal sacks of gold from the defending team and return them to their base)
Shootout (standard team deathmatch)

7 maps;

Bad Blood Valley (conquest, greed, shootout)
Deadwater Ranch (conquest, greed, powder keg, shootout)
Devil's Pit (conquest, robbery, shootout)
Fort Turnbull (conquest, greed, shootout)
Harvest Hill (gold fever, practice)
Prospector's Peak (conquest, greed, powder keg, shootout)
Sinner's Gulch (conquest, greed, shootout)

Anyone having issues adding funds on the PAL store? Perfectly valid cards I've used before are giving me "invalid information" errors. (I'm a native, so it's not a cross-region thing)

Check your expiry dates?

So the framerate is smooth for the most part and it's not laggy? Then I guess I'll get it later after I played some more After Burner Climax. That game is awesome.

Yeah, the framerate is definetly better - the lag's probably going to be subjective though, it's still P2P based and i've had one game out of a dozen so far where the connection dropped and booted everyone from the room (incidently, there's no host migration).

Ok that is bad and should not exist in any online game. Instant skip for me. I hate that shit.

The Lost Planet 2 MP Demo would be way more interesting if they would let us level up at least a few levels. Oh well I'll just wait for the full game.

Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer demo sounds good. I will probably pass on everything else unless Lead and Gold grabs my attention. From what everyone is saying, sounds better and better.

I never knew Butler had a special section. :lol

I got an early demo code. It's AWFUL, set your expectations on low and you won't be to disappointed. If that is the highlight of your week I weep for you.

Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess! is pretty great and I absolutely recommend it. Just don't download it expecting a classic platformer. The video on the PS blog entries pretty much shows what it's all about. Normally I'm not motivated by scores and medals but here you unlock pretty funny scrapbook entries. The soundtrack is also very good.

I'm fucked if any more games use the other DRM system

"One time fee for use of download solely by the purchasing account only on up to five PS3 systems. Not more than one activated PS3 system within a 24 hour period. Product may not be used by any other account. You must sign in to PlayStation Network at each start up"

because:
My actual gaming (Trophies, friendlist, nickname etc.) account is not the account(s) I'm buying games with.

Won't buy games with this DRM, also this isn't nice if games are only available in foreign regions like the US store I buy many of my PSN games from.

It's very stupid as we know they can also use 24 hour lock w/o restricting to one account only.

also the other restrictions like not being able to play this offline (and when PSN is down etc.) just suck.
Of course the actual anti-sharing part, the 24hour lock (at least for mp games) is fine. But it's still a bummer for me as I will never be able to convince my buddies to all buy the same coop/mp game (which was no problem due to game sharing with close people) and this means less buys from me for games focusing on that.

I was surprised to see that Lead and Gold is coming to PSN.
I've seen some pics in PC threads, it's looks pretty cool - kind of like a wild west Team Fortress 2. If impressions are positive I'll probably get it.

I gotta get that Uncharted 2 DLC too...hopefully we'll be getting the Just Cause 2 monster truck as well.

This is just Final Fight right?

Yeah, I knew Game Share abuse/forum wankering would lead to something like this eventually.

What I dont like about the new DRM thing is that you have to be online to play it. I'm not always online with the PS3. Pretty dumb when it comes to offline games.

double dipping on Afterburn Climax tonight.. bought it on XBLA already but I preffer the XMB on the PS3 for access stuff so double down on that

yeah, I added that in my edit as well.
Especially if you have no say in it like PSN downtimes or if they discontinue PSN on PS3 like MS did with Live on the Xbox. This would mean you can't play this game you bought again EVER (if they aren't bc on PS4).

IMO yes, only FF for now.

btw. go figures which publisher would be the first to use it, eh? :P

edit: oh, I would be kinda ok with it if this is a release-only thing and later they change the DRM (via patch&new version in store) to the standard DRM system.
E.g. Warhawk was also patched to allow more than one local account (while keeping the 24 hour lock).

I'm not going to buy FFDI then because of that DRM, even though I'm usually online, there is the random occurrence when I'm not online.

This is just bollocks.

Dear Sony and Namco,

Please give me Pac-man CE as you promised. Thank you.

PS. It's too late to save Gamecocks625. Fire the intern working on the Lumines PSP remake. Thanks.

Pacman CE is supposed to be released on PSN!?

Thanks for the info! Sounds good!

My only worry is the online community. I'm not sure if this game will have a lot of players online. I'd get this game if I knew the community will be active. It feels like this will be one of the better games that will be overlooked, which is a shame.

Yeah, if I ever want to get it, I'll just grab the XBLA version.

It was one of the first announced PSP Minis titles. While most Minis are cross-compatible with the PS3 and PSP, if Pacman CE were to ever be released on Minis it would likely be PSP only.

It could be coming soon. We are finally starting to see some of the 50 promised titles that were announced when the Minis program was.

Uno, for instance is finally coming (albeit not as a Mini) and Icon Game games is finally getting around to putting out Arcade Darts (not exactly a title anyone was waiting for, but still they had appeared to drop the Minis program in favor of Wiiware, but I guess they decided to finally give Minis a try afterall)

I've looked up the list of XS Games published titles on PS1 to see what's left:

Jigsaw Madness
Monster Bass!
Sol Divide
Superstar Dance Club #1 Hitz
Virtual Pool 3
XS Junior League Football
XS Moto
Hugo: The Evil Mirror

There's probably more...

Has to be said that this new DRM is complete fucking bullshit, and Sony are at fault for even allowing developers to implement it. Needless to say I won't be buying any more Capcom games on PSN if this is the route they are going down.

You are honestly not able to play FFDI offline for singleplayer action?

You can't play offline from what I've read. I'm surprised there's no thread bitching about this. Then again, there was a thread about wanting to remove game sharing not too long ago.

dallow_bg said:

You can't even boot up the game without being logged into PSN. I guess this is what we get for game sharing abuse.

Next PSX games on US PSN probably gonna be Star Wars : Dark Forces. It's the only one remaining from the ESRB list that wasn't released yet.

That is awesome but also sad. Why didn't/don't they apply this to PSP game ads? That one I saw for Gran Turismo last year sucked and I haven't seen a single PSP game ad this year. SCEA sucks.

dallow_bg said:
Oh wow, that's way worse than what I had originally heard about the new DRM.
Yeah. I'll never buy any game with that shit over it. I won't buy a game that only I, and not the rest of my family, can play. That's just fucking up the consumer to punish those game-sharing fuckers.

I hope it fails hard.

The PSP is completely dead in the West. There's no point in advertising it anymore.

Hell, PJM Deluxe UMD will retail for $10 at launch.

SCEA does suck. As for Kevin Butler PSP commercials you can see him pimping out the PSP Modnation Racers release in his latest commercial. Clearly highlighting the fact that's it'll likely be a quality product developed by San Diego Studio using the WipEout Pure/Pulse engine, as well as riding on the coat-tails of the highly successful Mario Kart DS.

You can see them mention it if you sit really close to the screen and make sure not to blink.

As for Sony not bothering to promote the PSP, Microsoft still advertises the 360 in Japan, despite the fact it does worse there than the PSP does here.
