Lol, bad move. It's being refreshed with the Mobility Radeon 5870 and Nvidia GTX 400M, soon.

I wouldn't buy one anyway, but still, bad timing.

Yeah.... Try to cancel that as soon as possible.

Fifteenthed. I find the most sensible option is to put together a powerful desktop yourself, and purchase a netbook/notebook/Macbook/iPad (lol) for on the go.

You guys are so cruel to the guy with the alienware XD. He will have a great time with it(I hope).:lol

Its not so much that it's an Alienware, which is a waste of money, but more the outdated video card. Not worth paying over 2g's and not getting the newest and best.

Doesn't make sense to spend that much literally one month before nVidia's 3d card refresh. At the very least, should have gone with a 5870 mobility, the 260M is not top of the line anymore.

I asked a few pages ago but anyone knows of a 12 to 13-inch with the I5s or I7s, a decent graphic cards, etc?

I like the new Macbooks, but I want something cheaper and featuring Windows (I don't want to run bootcamp).

I just bought one of these:

Acer Aspire Intel Core i5 520M(2.40GHz) 15.6" 4GB DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

It's not 13inch, but still quite light and certainly portable. Runs Crysis, GTAIV, etc all very well. 5400rpm hdd is a kick in the nuts, but thats really the only drawback.

I posted in like 5 pc/laptop threads the past few weeks, no one mentiond new video cards coming soon :(

when are the new cards coming for the laptop models?

I mean, its not like this one sucks, yah?
I can still run Starcraft 2/Diablo 3 with good settings... i hope

bah, being a console gamer is so much easier.

You really should try and cancel that if it is still possible. Sure it won't be a bad computer and will run anything out now at decent settings, but that price is insane. As other have pointed out, you can get much better laptops for like $1000 less. If you have money to throw away and absolutely want to pay the $500 - $1000 premium for the Alienware brand, then you should at least wait until they offer the 5870 video cards.

You must be really, really rich to just blow $2500 on something without researching the shit out of it first.

An aftermarket Mobility 5870 goes for $390. Better to wait until it's included in the price of your machine, than to pay that down the line.

There are people upgrading to them already, but they owned there machines a long time ago.

No where near rich, just haven't bought a PC is maybe 8-9 years... been using a mac mini since my Dell desktop literally exploded. PC's used to cost this much :( I knew it was pricey, but I thought I was getting top-o-the-line and upgrading in all the right places.

I looked into canceling, but don't think I can now. These graphics cards arent integrated anymore right? I could always upgrade down the line no?

Probably been mentioned, but why don't you just buy a $400-500 laptop that will be plenty fast for general non-gaming use (or even one of those $800 i7 720 / GT330 HP's or something) and a $1500-$2000 gaming desktop that will blow that Alienware out of the water? I doubt you're going to be playing modern games on battery. I'm pretty sure even an $800 custom build desktop would blow that AW laptop away.

Buy a solid note book + Amazing holy shit desktop.
Heck even a net book + gaming laptop + dekstop.

I'm almost positive you can cancel, that's what the Dell refurb store is made of!

Ok, so I went ahead and picked up the Saphire 5970.

Only problem is, my PSU is only 530w. Barely enough to keep the thing running in 2D mode (for the hell of it, I tried Crysis and after 15 seconds, the PC shutdown :lol )

So, anyone have recommendations for a PSU? Here's what I'll be powering:

2xsata HDDs
1 DVDRW
e8400 @4ghz
4GB DDR2
2 80mm fans

and of course, the 5970 :D

Oh yeah! My PSU and Saphire toxic 4870 are now for sale if anyone is interested. Just hit me up.

Yup, Dell would have let me return my laptop for a full refund any time in the first two week I believe. Dell owns alienware? so I'd hope the policy is the same.

I bet the speed difference between a 260M and 5870M or 400M is over 100%. K.Jack would probably know, but he doesn't frequent here much.

As long as it isn't shipped you can cancel, especially if you tell them that you intend to buy after the refresh.

It's literally a 5770 vs a 9800 GT, in desktop terms.

Question:

Would a 5870/gtx 480 fit into a Mid-atx case? I'm thinking not but not entirely sure.
Best way is just to google your case + "does a gtx 480 fit in a _________"

If it's obscure you can measure the 9.5" or 10.5" or whatever the hell they are up to now.

*I think both the 5870 and 480 are 10.5" but the plastic batman cover extends the 5870 to 11.2" or something.

The GTX 470 is 9.5"

Well, that's a little disappointing, but a 5770 is like 25-75% faster depending on the game.

You have a 260M in your laptop now don't you? How long ago did you get it? Not used to your new avatar yet, funny you should post multiple times on the same page and I think you aren't frequenting the thread!

The 5970 fits into my smallish mid-size atx case with room to spare.

So long as it's intelligently designed, you should be ok.

Hi Gafers,

I have 600$ CA to buy a new rig. What u suggest ? I dont need hdd, cd/dvd, computer screen, computer case (i already have a mid-tower Thermaltake). Please help !

Pretty much, worst case scenario look into what the return policy is. Pretty sure it must be a minimum of 14 days long.

Anybody have something similar to this?
belkin-n52te.jpg

How does these things workout? Are they any good for gaming?Kinda dislike the non ergonomic feeling of the standard keyboard.

Alright, looking to put together a new computer for the gf, she uses it mostly to play WoW and facebook, other internet stuffs but I'd like it to be able to play some newer games if we wanted and generally run lots of stuff/switch between programs including WoW without slowing down. Budget's about $500! Also would be nice if it would last a very long time as long as we aren't worried about always being able to play the newest games. ;p

Read through the tech report and have come up with some preliminary stuff:

$79.99 Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

$79.99 GIGABYTE GA-770T-USB3 AM3 AMD 770 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

$111.99 Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

$99.00 AMD Athlon II X4 630 Propus 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor Model ADX630WFGIBOX

$66.98 Rosewill DESTROYER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case + SAMSUNG DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223L LightScribe Support - OEM

It will also have a Radeon HD 3850, 17" Viewsonic LCD monitor, and a 500W Antec power supply from my current computer, so the cost for this comes to about $448.66 with shipping. Seems pretty reasonable to me, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for other stuff or against the ones that I've selected so far! :)

Also, I would be upgrading to:

$212.98 XFX HD-577X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card + Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2

In my computer, I have an E8400 processor, and I'm not much for FPS games, I tend to be looking forward more to stuff like Civ 5, Starcraft II, and Diablo 3, so it seems like the 5770 would probably be a good deal for me right now looking to keep it for quite a while. I'm also looking to buy a new widescreen monitor, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight into good deals for something like a decently-prices 24" or 22" monitor (it has to fit inside the cubby in my desk which is 23.75" wide) to buy to go with the 5770.

Anyway, I'm willing to look at pretty much whatever as far as any of this stuff goes!

Minsc said:

I ran through the list real quick, and the 5770 roughly averages ~20fps over the 8800 GT. For the mobile world, that's a jump in performance which can not be understated.

I've had my 260M equipped Clevo for just over a year now.

The ole G92 has seen a lot of miles and refreshes, starting with the 8800M GTX, then 9800M GT, 9800M GTX, GTX 260M, GTX 280M, and finally the recent release of GTX 285M.

The G200 releases all suck.

Rumor is that the mobile Fermi will be derived from the GTS 430.

Dell waves the restocking fee, if you're going to rebuy one of their products. YMMV.

What do you think about this gaf. I'm on a budget and I'm too lazy to build a pc but here are the specs.

AMD Phenom II X4 965(3.4GHz)
4GB DDR3 1333
500GB SATAII
ATI Radeon HD5770 1GB
700W
AMD 770

So I've finally finished the machine that I'm hoping to get this summer. Tax return was way more than I thought it would be plus my situation in the summer and here is what I've come to (I've changed somethings around from last time; case, memory etc):

Core i7 930
GTX 480 x 2 (for SLI)
Gigabyte GA-EX85 UD5 Motherboard
Corsair XMS 6GB RAM
CoolerMaster HAF 932 Full ATX case (decided to go with this over mid atx for the reason because of the 2 480s).
Corsair 1000W Powersupply
Intel X-25 80GB SSD
Samsung F3 1TB HD
Sony DVD Burner

Graphic card situation is fluid (and we'll see what else gets unveiled in the next couple of months), but I'm 80% sure I'm going the 480 route because I want to take advantage of 3D. Still researching the few 120hz 3D monitors so I'm not sure as of now which one I'll settle on.

So that's where I'm at for now. Yes I know wait for this etc etc, but you always wait in tech land you'll never get anything. Been browsing the PC screenshot thread a lot lately and it's killing me :(.

how realistic of an improvement am I going to get with a 5770 over a 1GB GTS 250? My 250 overclock ran too hot(apparently 66C is too hot for this card or I pushed it too far...not sure which, since 66C under load is good for a video card i thought), so I am looking at a 5770 to play games better

I thought you mentioned before that your current motherboard was this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130081

Or did you mean it was your currently planned upgrade mobo and then you switched to the Asus? If it's the former, you should just use whatever CPU you had prior to the Q9400 (unless you sold it, of course). Also, are you posting from a 775 socket PC at the moment or is it a mobile device of some sort? You could always just use a donor CPU (seems like you're in need of a Core 2 Duo) temporarily to get the Asus up and running and then change over to the new Q9400. Even if that entails having to briefly borrow one from another PC.

....take back everything I said.

Apparently new drivers have the 5770 performing just as fast as the 4870 in most games!

Sorry 'bout that!

Guys what is your take on this laptop? Is there something a component (i.e. video card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870) that is about to a refresh that I should hold out on buying a laptop?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...lack/9741729.p?id=1218165344675&skuId=9741729

I have a beefy gaming PC already and since I have a shit-ton of PC games due to Steam I am thinking of getting something for on the go. I already have an ASUS netbook and love it so I was considering getting an ASUS laptop. My biggest concern is the video card, from a few posts it sounds like a new Nvidia mobile card is about to come out.

Edit:

Looks like someone already posted an article on this, sounds good.
