Mai Shiranui from KOF joins DOA5LR in September

Whoa, let's not say things we can't take back now.

Why you post a gif of a mare?

Chin Li looks so good here. My God this gif makes me want to play Street Fighter. A sexy muscle body in a Japanese series?! She is better looking than all the DOA girls. This thighs and arms man!

Its almost as if there are different types of designs for different franchises? xD

The KOF team has very little knowledge/experience in making 3D graphics.

I'm pretty sure it is not the same guys from 1994 who made sprite graphics starting to make their first 3D models. They hired people to be modelers, which is kind of how it's done. Don't just parrot people who can't accept an actual 3D artist just might not be amazing at translating hand-drawn concepts compared to one at a bigger studio.

Never really looked at SF much. Now I gotta check out the series. Their designs are more up my alley lol.

I just never really see much actual muscle girls in Japanese media, period. And I've seen a lot.

Let me introduce you to a girl named Rainbow Mika...

But that's directly what SNK has told us.

Whats the consensus of picking up the best version for this game?

PS4 version, easily. Gets all the DLC, the features, best online, etc.

Yeah, correct, but judging by DoAX3, breasts are only getting bigger :(

I think some are just getting back to where they were supposed to be, like Ayane and Honoka, but yeah. To be fair DoAX3 has a completely different focus, understandable why they didn't choose some characters in that roster :/
Still hoping they add the full female roster someday... (apart from the guest characters for obvious reasons)

Well then the World has bad taste :P

The world does have bad taste. Or to be more accurate, the segment of the world that buys JP PSN themes of DOA characters as a vote does.

No! I want the guest characters too! I want endless guest characters.

EDIT: None of that Miku shit though... that was horrifying.

You on the other hand, are totally invited to my next birthday party.

This.

It always bugs me that people assume that SNK has the same staff since 1994 lol.

They can hire better 3D modellers.

The original bouncing breasts character in the series that made breast bouncing a seperate selling point. I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

She never made it in thankfully. Still don't understand what that was all about...

Sure, but is it only those guys working there? And if so... why?

nope... not only those guys... the director of KOF 14 was the battle planner on Street Fighter 4. Also as of January they hired Neo_G from Capcom... who was around since the SF Alpha games and was most notably the director of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. They also had job listings for new artists, etc long before KOF 14 was officially announced.

As for the why.... a Chinese megacorp purchased SNK a year or so ago... so they have all the money they need to make games again.

The "why" was only really in regards to if they had not brought in any new talent since 1994. My assumption was that this wouldn't be the case, as you've described. :P

Development Decisions on KOFXIV

- They decided to go 3D on KOF14 after considering the current market and what things will be like 5-10 years into the future. Their staff all agreed that things would be best if they challenged in 3D right now and started building up experience, knowledge and libraries in their company.

- The game engine was internally developed by SNK. They were considering Unreal Engine earlier in development but decided not to go with it because the version at the time didn't match well with SNK's situations including their knowledge, budget, and potential risks. As a result it was inevitable that they were going to be bad with lighting and shadings, but given that they need to build up their knowledge, they went with their decision.

Bonus: Speaking about KoF Development difficulties on the KOF Station vid.

I mean, there's way, way more to 3D graphics that make their way into a game, than JUST the character models. Part of why DOA looks as it does now, or looked as it used to for years, is because companies build off the resource libraries they have in house, not just from scratch.

Even after years of DLC support, DOA is sitting on 30 characters. KoF XIV is going to have 50. And this is on top of being "PS3 post arcade release"-ish filled with extra modes and content.

DOA had a lot of current-gen (at the time) work to base their latest games off of, and still fell short with making something as technically well-rounded as the XB360 release of DOA 4 in many ways. Heck, even though DOA 5's character face models have gotten better, I still don't really feel like the overall animators are as talented as those who came up with many of the motions that are STILL being referenced from DOA 2.

Basically every studio has strengths and weaknesses, and every product shifts resources to focus or detract from different things. I actually love the fact that the newish KoF team is bringing SNK 2D concerns (like the effects work and 2D-inspired character animations) into their own 3D now, and looking forward to what they do with their own style as they grow is pretty exciting. Each competitor in the 3D graphic fighter space forces other companies to take note of what they do well, and strive a little harder to be better in their next product.

For those asking why Mai is in it let me show you who she inspired from Itagaki's pervy ass from a lady friend and Mai

Also now SF5 is now DOA :P

This announcement finally convinced me to buy Naotora Ii. She's a lot of fun.

Looked at the rest of the DLC, there are a handful of cool costumes I want. But there are FOUR season passes, priced at $93 each?

There are people out there that have spent over FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS on this game.

And here I am, on the fence about spending $2 on Momiji's Ina costume.

I always used to wonder how much I spend on playing SFII on every trip to Arcades or Walmart, over all it's iterations... before finally getting the games on SNES, Genesis, PS1, etc. My dream afternoon at the time was getting $20 to spend in the arcade for a few hours...

Even the cost for costumes, at 3 or 4 dollars, is still pretty much what I'd spend within an hour once machines rose their prices from .50 cent a play. It'd be so cool if arcades still existed outside Japan regularly. I'd have loved to get DLC codes for spend X amount of hours with a character across arcade versions.

Momiji and Mai in the same game. This is the type of crossover that really matters, not mario and sonic.

I'd be down for Dead or Alive becoming the Smash Bros. of hot fighting game women. If they could ever get Namco and Capcom to play ball it would be amazing.

when every dlc release you get 1 million people buying dlc, it becomes very profitable.

Oh, I don't blame Koei Tecmo for capitalizing on the market (aside from my dislike of their occasional copy/paste jobs). Costume DLCs are probably my favorite type of DLC in gaming. It just blows my mind that someone could justify spending so much money for one game though.

If I had $ to throw around, I'd definitely be all over the Falcom mashup set, but even $32 is a lot to drop considering I only actually play 2 or 3 characters regularly.
Hail Momiji
.

This thread made me realize that it's been far too long since we had a sequel to Soul Calibur 5. Need to see ma gurl Ivy with PS4 level boob physics.

Do the season passes even include the stuff from the Ultimate Content Set? If not, there's another 93$. I'm not even sure if that covers all the available DLC either.
