So what is everyone's expectations on Jared Leto's Joker?

I remember when he was first shown, there was a lot of backlash .. And I think it was rightfully deserved but after seeing more and more pics, it seems he may be able to pull it off

I still don't think he will dethrone Heath.. Too big of a task

I kind of worry that Leto's Joker is going to try a little too hard to be different from Nicholson, Ledger, and Hamill. So my expectations are being kept low (as is my expectations for the movie in general)

I'm sure he'll be good. Also this will probably be the first Joker intended for sequels.

Did you forget how The Dark Knight ended?

The laugh and the small bits of mannerisms we've seen so far look alright, but his actual physical look seems like they're trying a little too hard.

Snyder's Lex doesn't fill me with confidence, though.

If by some crazy happenstance the Jason Todd thing turns out to be true, I'd be way more into it.

Same as anything like this, wait and see, I have never been bothered by different interpretations of the character and of the three live action jokers Romero was awesome for not giving a fuck but not a great joker, and I always thought Jack was really overrated. So he has Heath as competition so can he make the character his own is all I care.

I think it's going to be very difficult to follow Heath. As much as I hope the movie will be great, I have a feeling it's going to suck :(

That being said, I almost said the same exact thing about Heath following Nicholson, so who knows?

He'll be fine, not classic, but still good.

The good part is that he's unrecognizable in the role so it's not like Jack Nicholson where all you saw was him playing the Joker. People will like it less than Ledger's because he's not a crazy introvert but a crazy rockstar.

His moment of greatness will be in the Batman Solo movie.

In the end, he's a class A actor and it's a difficult role to fuck up.

Heath Ledger supposedly drew inspiration from a Tom Waits interview, so I expect not as good as that.

They should've had Tom Waits be the Joker, how cool would that have been.

It seems kind of odd to compare him to Ledger. They may be playing the same character in name, but two are completely different. One going for the grounded Nolan aesthetic, the other more like a version from the comics

They both can excel in their respective takes on the character

I think he'll be great. Whether he surpasses Hamill or not, doesn't really matter to me. As long as he's still good.

I'm honestly expecting a tame but good performance. I don't think he's gonna be a complete psycho despite acting like one behind the scenes.

Looks like the best Joker yet. I love how flamboyant and well off this Joker is. Heath did amazing of course but Im over hobo Joker, wouldn't work in this universe.

I think TDKR would have been a massively different movie had Ledger not died.
Yep. Remember TDKR was almost not made. The Joker was the main villain in the third movie, whatever it was about (I bet it was probably him and Talia).

We got TDKR which is still a good movie, but thinking about the original Batman 3 with Heath makes me sad.

Nah, he would've shown up, sure, but it would probably have been as a cameo (like Scarecrow's appearances in TDK and TDKR). It's pretty obvious the League of Shadows stuff was the intended final arc of the trilogy.

I can't stand Leto as a person, but I think he'll do a good job. Everything I've seen so far looks like, well, Joker. Personality-wise, at least. Not too thrilled with the tattoos, but that's what all the kids are into these days.

I certainly think he'll be better than Nicholson, but I'm pretty much the only person in the world who can't stand that portrayal.

The Joker is like a force of nature, an avatar of chaos. When you stare into that abyss, the abyss stares back. Leto better be careful diving into his inner darkness, it's hard to get back to the surface. And once your back, you can never truly wash away the filth. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the sanest of them all?

Assuming TDKR would have been mostly the same if Ledger lived (which I strongly doubt) I think he would have been a bigger player in the story. Remember that he was one of the only guys who knew the truth about what happened to Harvey Dent.

I've liked what little they've shown of him so far. So I'm hoping that Suicide Squad leaves me wanting more of him. Jared Leto is a good actor, so it isn't like the role is beyond him or anything. It just comes down to how well this Joker fits into the world they're creating. People hate on the tattoos, but in this weird semi realistic version of our world that DC is creating, it's hard to imagine a career criminal who wouldn't have tattoos. A straight up interpretation of the Joker like in the Batman Animated Series would just look super corny in this world.

I'm expecting it to be very well received. Maybe even moreso than Ben Affleck's Batman. Halloween 2016 is going to be full of Leto Jokers and Robbie Harley Quinns. I'd put money on that.

isn't he a rich kid playboy turned bored and gone crazy? beacuse of all the money he has at his disposal or something like that. i forgets

It wasn't. I think it was Chares Roven who in the pre TDKR days was interviewed and said the plans for a third Batman were in limbo because Heath was going to feature and they didn't want to recast. TDKR is a whole different thing of what we would have gotten.

That said, I wonder if any actor would have taken the role of the Joker if Heath was still alive. Damn hard shoes to fill and meet eye to eye.

He looks more like comic Joker than Ledger's or Nicholson's ever did

As I said. I really have no interest in Batman, or any other superheroes except for the Arkham games. So I have no idea how he looked in those, but I have seen his image in posts on here, posters and avatars and I find the way he looks annoying. That has no impact on how he actually acts though luckily.

This is based on something Goyer said, but you have to take it with a serious pinch of salt since Goyer wasn't the main story writer on any of the Nolan Batman films. Goyer also said that TDKR would've built up to a Harvey Dent film, which doesn't make sense since the Nolan films were always meant to be a trilogy. TDKR almost didn't happen because Chris Nolan just straight up didn't want to make a third movie, that had nothing to do with Ledger dying or not.
