Well, it's a hybrid after all. In hindsight, this makes sense given that the rumors to date only talked about a single device.

Guess I shouldn't have believed Nintendo when they said it wouldn't be a hybrid, then!

Holy shit. That's the best outcome if true. The power difference between the X2( or even the X1) and the 3ds is insane.

So basically, it's a handheld with the PSP's AV out port, and a second controller?

So, basically it's a PSP with a second controller?

No AV out port. Probably connects wit the TV wirelessly, reverse of Wii U.

the system will harness Nvidia's powerful mobile processor Tegra

Aaaahahahahahah

Aaaahahahahahahah

Oh god. This is too good. :'D

I wish I could say that I don't believe Ninty would be so far off-mark, but... I can't at all.

Either way I'm really sodding intrigued. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fuck backwards compatibility. I'm not going to pay a fifth time for old Zelda or Mario games. Enough is enough.

I haven't been a fan of Nintendo consoles for a while, but this I'll buy! Hybrid and two player out of the box? Sign me up!

really if this can run full blown fighting games and open world games

i'm in

never thought i would be but if this can do that

i'm back

It's basically a Wii U where the hardware has moved from the "base station" into the Gamepad, and where the sides of the gamepad are detachable.

So, thinking about it, there'll definitely be an ergonomic revision after two years or so, right? Like, the launch version will be bulky and quirky and the sleek sexy version is coming later? Might just hold out for that one...

Can't get over the love for this. This is a terrible idea. Terrible. No one in the real world wants some huge-arse mobile console. This is going to a disaster.

MARK. MY. WORDS.

Lets wait and see before calling doom about its design. I highly doubt Nintendo is going to do another Gameboy or original DS and release a massive clunky handheld by default.

All the people (myself included) hoping Zelda would look different on NX compared to the WiiU versión. Be careful what you wish for boys and girls..

So the power level will be somewhere between a WiiU and an Xbox one?

Kind of disappointing for a 2017 device. But since its a handheld as well I guess it is what it is.

The nonbelievers who kept saying "IT'S NOT GONNA BE A HYBRID!" .. Where are you now?

So it's pracically just a HH that you can put into your TV and use with several controllers? Or am I missing something?
Goddamn, so disappointed if that's all behind this. I want a real homeconsole, not a HH with TV functionality.

As someone that was only interested in the handheld NX this is great news!

This does probably mean there will be very few third party ports, but I have a pc for that :)

Can someone explain this?

I don't understand and can't quite picture it. Thanks. Do they mean if you take the controls off each side they become a single extra gamepad? If so, does the HH have controls underneath? or...does that mean the build-a-gamepad is the basic gamepad to use when playing at home, since the HH will be plugged in to the base?

Correct.

You plug the handheld into the base and use the controllers. It's a different twist on my version, which was to have an HDMI signal sender that uses the WiiU streaming tech and Bluetooth to allow WiiU pro controller and Wii remote use.

I expected WiiU BC though.

Haha called it. And people like Interceptor among others were so sure that it wasn't. Shows u how little the hardcore Nintendo people on gaf know.

I like the idea and extremely intrigued to see how the device actually looks like. This approach could also mean less development time and lower costs.

This gen proved to me that better graphics aren't as much of a selling point as it used to be since nothing feels like that big of a leap forward these days.

and I'm more of a Nintendo console gamer as opposed to a handheld gamer but the biggest things I wanted for their next hardware were cartridges and a unified library

so I'm hyped

the unified library thing is huge. imagine if there was a single console that got all of the Wii U and 3DS releases these past few years. that thing would have had a fucking beast of a library. and it'll be even better because there won't be overlap like with Mario Kart 7/8, NSMB2/NSMBU, Smash 3DS/Wii U, etc.

I don't get the excitement...

I think home and handheld should stay separated.

It's more like "we bet all on the handheld videogames but giving you the possibility to play also on your tv"

And als games when are made for handheld and for home console are created in different ways to be more confortable to be played... so will be NX games created with in mind the handheld situation or the home one?

And that's why now I'm even more curious to see what we will get... :P

After all the countless times shooting down that rumor.... it's actually true. Well, I guess this is par for Nintendo.

Still, how is that not going to be an overpriced handheld/underpowered home console?

"Last year we also started a project to integrate the architecture for our future platforms. What we mean by integrating platforms is not integrating handhelds devices and home consoles to make only one machine. What we are aiming at is to integrate the architecture to form a common basis for software development so that we can make software assets more transferrable, and operating systems and their build-in applications more portable, regardless of form factor or performance of each platform. They will also work to avoid software lineup shortages or software development delays which tend to happen just after the launch of new hardware."

That was Iwata in 2013 and started the hybrid speculation. They never shot down hybrid rumors. Or any rumors for that matter. There were never any hybrid rumours, just speculation based on the Iwata comment.

Why are so many people disapointed about its power? YOU HAVE A PS4, XBOX ONE or PC to choose from if you want power. This is a 2nd console, not a primary one. You buy this and another one.

Nintendo's art style and game type have never required horsepower to fulfill their goals.

I don't know. It had been rumored for a while but in didn't want to believe we would get an underpowered hybrid.

So far, it's a 2018 purchase for me

Hmm... as a home console it's limited by a mobile chip, and as a handheld it's limited by cartridges. But I suppose the latter isn't a big deal if you don't mind Nintendo's digital DRM and having to buy an $80 SD card or two. I'll reserve my hype until I see what games they're bringing

The power level thing is bad enough, but if this is actually gonna be a console/handheld hybrid, then that means Nintendo will be designing all their games with handheld sensibilities in mind. Which is terrible for people like me who don't do handheld gaming. :/
