Can somebody explain this?

The brain of the NX is inside the controller? How do you connect it to the dock station?

there you go but include an hdmi out.

I would guess 540p or 720p on the handheld part (saves power and can have better effects), and when connected to a TV, can run on a higher clock, going to FullHD.

I wonder if they will sell the 'TV connector' separated from the NX, though.

hardware power / battery management apart, I believe it is a great idea to have a console/handheld merged. There are many games that have some parts that are really a pain in the ass to play 'while at home'. For example if you need to play just to get some upgrades, improve some skills... the devs could do it so that this part you would be playing in the 'handheld', but the 'intense' (boss battles, whatever) part would stay in the TV.

are you mad? is everyone forgetting that this thing is gonna have some crazy power management, its not gonna run at anything near benchmark power

plus its nintendo, i bet this thing only has a 720p screen
Are you illiterate?

Yeah, but I can't play Zelda or Mario on them.

Same argument that the Vita had. That didn't turn out so well.

Honestly I'm not digging this information at all. Just a straight forward Nintendo console that does all the online shit, is powerful enough to keep up and runs Multi-platform games was enough for me. I can hear the quotes now.

"A new way to play"

well, i've been saying for the best part of over half a year that this was going to be a rebranded Shield tablet with an N sticker on it and would thus be a hybrid.

It's great being right ;)

bwahahahaaaa - no.

Not so fast! Weren't there developers who were saying that they were already working on major AAA ports for the NX and had no problems doing it?

If Nintendo was really so worried about others copying the idea, then their company officers would have straight lied and denied it was a hybrid, simple as that.

People, seriously, read this:

Imagine the handheld is down clocked when you play it as a portable. Once you hook it up to the dock, it upclocks the GPU for a boost in power because it no longer has to worry about battery life.

There's a lot of potential here.
Yeah, we hope for that, but I expect we'll get something less so if the dev kits were X1.

So yeah, it's basically a hybrid, but I'm cool with them saying it wasn't for ages.

Color my intrigued, looking forward to hearing more details.

The reality of new Nintendo hardware that gets the full force of their development efforts alone instead of splitting it between console and handheld is enough for me.

I'm in.

Yeah the main takeaway from this will be hopefully amazing Nintendo games. 3rd party, high specs you aren't getting that Nintendo fans but to be fair you never really cared about 3rd parties.

Is this really a hybrid though?
I mean it seems more like a handheld that can display to a TV, no real extra features to do that.

Anyway, I'm intrigued having been a lapsed Nintendo gamer for quite a few years now.
I like the idea brought from this leak!

But...I've already got a device for gaming on the go (mobile). A device that does like 500 other tasks to boot.

Why would I want to carry around another piece of hardware?

Well Nintendo is assuming you want to play good games. Playing at home too

I honestly think they goofed, I would have been more interested in the nx if they went full phone and made a Nintendo phone I could just buy.

This sound confusing... I need someone to draw a picture so i get a better idea of how it looks like. Not sure why people think this sound good. They're going to have to sacrifice something important somewhere and that will just piss off developers & gamers. Once again, say goodbye to third party AAA games on a Nintendo console.

Can't wait to see the (non-existent) battery life on this thing.

I wouldn't expect some extra crunch from the docking station and I think this good keeping the price low. Tegra X2 would make sense for the power requirements and it should offer quite the improvement over the X1.

Isn't this what everyone thought it was going to be until Iwata explicitly said it wasn't going to be a hybrid?

Yep. Maybe they changed plans after his death.

This is the way to go IMO as they need all their games in one place to have a broad enough library to be appealing without third part parity. Which they aren't getting with tegra vs x86 in their competitors.

Haven't you been reading this thread? Because it has a dock! A DOCK.

Indeed.

But it also sounds like the home-console experience is technologically compromised to accommodate for the mobile experience.

Seems like backwards priorities as the dedicated-gaming mobile war is lost to smartphones.

Such a strange move. It reads like a desperate last stand for a culture that has already moved on from (dedicated hardware) handheld gaming.

I would guess 540p or 720p on the handheld part (saves power and can have better effects), and when connected to a TV, can run on a higher clock, going to FullHD.

I wonder if they will sell the 'TV connector' separated from the NX, though.

I think Nintendo's solution for the tv resolution will be the actual dock unit itself that controls that.

Get ready to buy all your old VC games once again!!!!

This sounds cool. I get to play a Pokémon game on the TV now. Having to get one console for Nintendo stuff next generation is also a good feeling.

I mean, it sounds good to me in theory. This would amazing to play on my college campus and there are a ton of hardcore Nintendo fans there so I imagine I'd see this around lol.

A multiplatform OS is a good idea..a hybrid device is not.

You combine the costs of a handheld and console... making a more expensive device that doesn't satisfy the needs of either individual market.

The thing is it sounds like they are absolutely prioritising the handheld part.

The TV part sounds like a bit of handy extra functionality.

Thats a good move for me. I am much more interested in buying this now considering I am unlikely to leave Sony or Microsoft for console gaming.

I dont know why people are so surprised.

1- Nintendo fused both portable and hardware team into one a few years ago.

2- their major problem was games drough either in one or the other system.

Even if they didnt went to a hybrid solution The hardware and portable devices wouldnt be much diferent powerwise.

So yeah.

Bizarre. I like the idea but it's a bit funny and strange.

So.

X[ ]X

The [ ] is the HH screen. The X's are the controller sides that when detached click together to make a new controller to use when gaming at home. When gaming on the go, the sides of the controller comprise the control scheme for the handheld.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 'click them together' is optional. There's no real reason for a controller to necessarily be a single unit, and I got quite partial to having my hands separate from one another for a few Wiimote + Nunchuk games that didn't require motion.

I'm going to assume that the controller halves will have a dock for more comfortable home gaming, while keeping the option to use them Wii remote-style. And there will probably be a "Power-up" dock option if you want to play at home with improved graphics, based on that one patent.

The thing that worries me is I can't see them being able to sell this for less than the 3DS debuted at, and we all know how well that price point worked out.

If this thing is expensive at launch like 3ds was their is a very high chance.

Even the 3DS which has one of the worst launches ended up selling 20m - so yeah i dont see it happen.

We already know it will launch with Smash GotY, new Zelda and co. - what did the the 3DS had ? Steel Diver and Nintendogs.

Then again..probably best to see what the device looks like.

Yo motherfuckers who gave me shit about hybrids on here for the last 3 years or whatever the fuck. "B-b-b-b-but Iwata said..."

YOUR MOVE.

Great move by Nintendo if true. This is their space, and they needed to consolidate everything hardware to make a real go at it. Now you own the one Nintendo thing and it does it all. Add in a Netflix like subscription service of all the roms and isos ever, and they're doing Pie and Bean's Business Plan.

HYBRID, BABIES!
