It's also irrelevant to the majority of users.

I think Nintendo's new system would need to either be powerful enough to allow for ports of third-party games or be so cheap that people would buy it as a second console. I cannot imagine that an expensive console would sell well if it does not play all the major games that most gamers want to play.
As a consequence, given that NX' design does not sound like it will be able to handle big third-party games, Nintendo really needs to make it cheap. $200 sounds like the maximum they could get away with. And even that would be more than many people are willing to spend on a secondary gaming system.
So I won't expect any expensive hardware. The screen and the quality of the materials will probably be in the budget range. I also cannot imagine that they'd have enough budget left for gimmicks like a second GPU in the base station, large amounts of memory, and so on.
This is going to be the worst of both worlds, I feel.
I would agree that this is not a good hardware choice if they're chasing high end PS4/XB1 games, but I'm not convinced of that premise.
This feels more like a device designed for a world where they see smartphones ruling, which would be true in the domestic market.
They were nevery going to be in in the first place. Very easy to be negative.
But if it's barely as powerful as the wiiu why would someone interested in Zelda buy the NX instead of the cheaper WiiU?I think it comes down to the games. People will buy it if they make compelling, innovative software again. Zelda BOTW is a great example of this. If it is just the typical Nintendo output, it will sell to Nintendo fans and will probably see a reduction in userbase compared to the 3DS.
I suppose that is why this is a smart idea. They are trying to simplify development as much as possible so Nintendo is in a better position to making industry leading games again.
No, a powerful handheld, with the biggest first-party game library in the history of Nintendo. Positive thinking is good.
To people that already say "I'm out" at this point why is that? Is it because you wished for a more powerful home console?
No thanks Nintendo, cannot stand handheld gaming, in all forms. It being weak is a huge dissapointment but I guess it was expected. Still I held out some hope.
Sorry this is the Wii U again. Nintendo fans will eat it up, but that's about it.
I mean, that is the point of Nintendo diversifying their IP, to generate revenue from other avenues such as theme parks and mobile games. If all of the people spending money on the Pokemon Go and other upcoming mobile titles like Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem mobile games don't buy into NX it doesn't matter because Nintendo still eating.
It seems Nintendo will revive NES games with those controls
Lack of buttons
Hopefully it's like, $150, $200 max. Only way I'd buy one.
indie and jap devs already have their spaces, they don't need the NX
That's the best solutionAs expected it's going to be a hybrid and i'm totally ok with it, after all i was always saying(honestly i was expecting) that vita should have been something like PSTV+dekavita but better, but sony instead of improving the idea of the tv output present on the PSP completely removed it.

(dekavita is a handheld body with controls and screen for the PSTV, so you can use PSTV as a home console attached to a tv or as a handheld attached to dekavita)
I am out because I have no interest in a Nintendo portable system. All I want is a strong Nintendo console, which this isn't.

This says it all. It has to be more than this if true. This may very well be a product. However, I believe this is just one of several products Nintendo is making.
If this is what the NX is why no announce it earlier? There's no way in heck Sony and Microsoft are going to rip off this concept. It's not really anything new. It's a high powered vita that can be plugged into your tv.
So my assumption is that they're looking at what third parties can and will do with a next-gen portable and combining that with what they think a new console can do with those same third parties (i.e. nothing).
The biggest Vita games are not graphical powerhouses - by and large, the games that do really leverage the Vita hardware also didn't sell very well, which disincentivizes third parties from really trying too hard on graphically intense portable games. Moreover, Nintendo themselves probably can't keep burning the candle at both ends - they can't make PS4-style games (note: don't read this as an indication of graphical power for the NX) on a home console, Wii U-style games on a handheld, and hope both systems sell well. They don't have the time or money for that and it would eventually discourage the direction they want to go of lower budget, more experimental games with occasional AAA titles.
The problem this thing is meant to solve isn't the Wii U failing - not entirely, at least. It's Nintendo recognizing that another graphical bump for their handhelds will either entirely go to waste or it will force handheld development into the realm of console development, which is bad for them and bad for third parties that did well on 3DS.
I don't know if it will succeed, it's definitely going to be a hard sell and will certainly need to be priced appropriately, but I see the logic.
What is the positive thinking if you wanted a good console and a decent handheld?
Again, that doesn't suggest easy PS4/XB1 ports. An X2 isn't going to make games like Witcher 3 and Battlefield 1 'easy ports', which is what you suggested earlier. If XB1 can only run BF1 at 720p60fps, what would this run it at?
