What's the overall consensus from critics so far?

Side note I agree with the above about the soundtrack. This is a pretty solid list they put together. Hats off to whoever made this work.

Only $200 million domestic for this movie would be a spectacular bomb. Do you not understand how movie budgets and BO revenues work?

The article some shared yesterday said the budget for this thing is very high due to reshoots. I'd say that makes it at least $200 million, maybe more.

I understand that taking a rumor and then assigning a dollar value to it without any consideration for offsets like tax credits, marketing tie-ins etc is absurd. If Suicide Squad only breaks even at the box office but WB makes $50M off licensing fees for Harley Quinn they'll be fine.

This is silly. Marvel didn't invent fun and the Nolan movies were beloved despite being serious and grim
Yet Justice League teaser was met with cries of "trying to be like Marvel."

It's not about how accurate it is; it's about the perception. The "Marvel = fun and whimsy, DC = dark and grits" narrative is pretty established and it'll be a while before either company can shake it.

Theres no scores there. Just words and phrases culled from impressions

All movies do this and plenty of times what appears to be something positive is taken from a much more negative piece

Not saying it will go in either direction, just wouldn't read into that at all

Ok all right, but I'm just trying to lighten the mood

And the first two are positive with or without context so

😇

Thats because Marvel makes fun movies and DC made Man of Steel and BvS, they have no one to blame but themselves

They are perfectly capable of going out and making a fun movie if they want to. I'm hoping that's what SS is

I dunnp if David Ayer was the ideal director to do so lol.

Review TVspot

These all come from no-name critics, and many of the quotes appear to actually come from the same "Fox-TV" reviewer. This is actually more concerning than relieving. These types of spots would traditionally use quotes from critics like Peter Travers at Rollingstone or A.O. Scott from NYT, if they were able to.

What is a fun movie? Is The Dark Knight fun? It's psychologically exhausting, grim and has maybe 2 moments of levity in the 2.5 hour runtime. It's also a phenomenal film. Man of Steel and BvS have flashes of brilliance but also come with problems (major problems in the case of BvS). They do not need to be fun or lighthearted, they simply need to be of more consistent quality. Well not "simply", it's not "simple" to make an amazing film. But the tone is not really the issue.

Yeah this doesn't give me much confidence.

"Gripping" -- Shawn Edwards, Fox TV

"Electrifying" -- Shawn Edwards, Fox TV

"Thrilling" -- Shade45 (Rapper Eminem's SiriusXM radio station)

This is fucking hilarious, I noticed it too in the spot.

Kept quoting the same random dudes.

It's all over.

I never said the perception wasn't based in fact. But the fact is for the foreseeable future, whenever a DC movie is more "fun," it'll be compared to what Marvel has done. Hence Corpsepyre saying they'll be seen as copycats.

"So there was a point where Joker was gripping onto a wall"

"My least favourite scene was the Joker electrifying Harley Quin"

"Not thrilling at all"

I will be pretty disappointed if this is another poor movie. I quite liked MOS, but felt BvS was a let down afterwards and was hoping this movie would be a bit of a return to form. I would love them to get the same success as the Marvel movies.

I found the Nolan movies to be a ton of fun but Snyder's efforts to be dull and plodding. Thats just an opinion thing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's *easier*, I think, to make a more light-hearted romp with a throwaway villain and some one liners.

DC clearly wants to do more but the problem is that when your film takes itself more seriously, everything needs to work better - especially the script - because you don't have the laughs to fall back on.

But it will anyway, so why don't make it like that from the very start?
That's my thinking. If we've learned anything about DC movie threads since Man of Steel, it's that they all end in the same dumpster-fire way. May as well have a bit of fun with the title at least.
