About $5 million of that is just to have Eva Longoria come to Knicks games to compete with Staples. Chris Rock and Spike Lee ain't gonna cut it anymore.
I hear CC and Jared are coming to a few games, and Jared even reserves a few seats for a few Subway footlongs.

April 22, 2006. Game 1 of the Bulls-Heat series. Three well-respected referees were assigned to the game, and I was the alternate. The spread was Miami by nine, and I think I teased the game down to 5.5. In the pregame meetings, our group supervisor told us to expect Chicago to play physical with Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. We talked about not allowing the Bulls to get rough and a bunch of other stuff, and I thought Miami was at a clear advantage, based on what the league wanted in the game. So I told my buddy to bet Miami. Three grand.

Let's back up. The night before, one of these refs, a veteran of the profession, had a lot of beers. A LOT. It was what we used to call an "ice-bucket night." It's a funny story: This ref once asked me why I didn't drink. And I said that when I do, I go to the bathroom all night and never get any sleep. "Just do what I do," he said. "Put the ice bucket next to the bed and piss in it all night." He was totally serious. After that, every time I went to a hotel, I threw the ice bucket out in the hall. Didn't matter what hotel I was in. Maybe he'd been in that room a week or two prior — you never know. I was on the road with this guy once, and I remember opening up the door one morning and seeing an ice bucket there, filled with piss. He'd left it there just to screw with me. That motherfucker's crazy, I thought.

Anyway, on April 21, he had an ice-bucket night, and the next day, he was hung over, and I knew he was not gonna take any shit from the Bulls. The NBA didn't want the game to be very physical, and with Skiles and Nocioni and Chandler, I thought for sure he'd snap on Chicago at some point. Boy was I wrong. What happened was, he snapped on Miami instead. In the first half, Udonis Haslem goes to the basket and thinks he gets fouled. Haslem turns around and starts jawing at the ref. He says something back to Haslem. Haslem takes his mouthpiece out, throws it at the ref, and gets royally tossed. The ref then goes over to the scorer's table. The radio announcer says something to him, and the ref tells him to go fuck himself. Now he's really pissed. At halftime, Miami's up by 12, and the ref storms into the locker room, saying: "Fuck Miami. Fuck that owner. Fuck that radio guy. Fuck 'em all." I'm doing everything I can to calm him down, because I dropped a wad on Miami. He goes out in the second half, still pissed, and all of a sudden the lead evaporates. Chicago's raining in threes like crazy. I'm in the locker room watching on television, thinking, "I'm fucked." Miami's leading by four in the last few seconds, and Antoine Walker gets fouled. Makes one, misses one. They don't cover by half a point. And I'm out three grand partly because my colleague, the venerable ref, had an ice-bucket night and got pissed at the wrong team.

[Editor's note: You can find the game's box score here and play-by-play here. Joe Crawford was the ref who ejected Haslem, which means that Crawford is our alleged ice-bucket pisser.]

I'm thoroughly gonna enjoy this series. Deadspin is shitty sometimes, but it's worth it when they get stories like this.

Second of all do you know what a source is Rodeo?
The story originated in a New York media outlet. They are the only one's perpetuating it. Sorry that I don't buy that Frank Isola has an alleged San Antonio source.

But I don't live in a world where every team is trading their stars to New York for assets the Knicks just don't have.

Mavericks point guard J.J. Barea, who could become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, told the New York Post that the Knicks would be his first choice if he can't return to Dallas.

The Mavericks have a team option on Barea's contract.

"Hey, if I got to go somewhere, the Knicks is the place," Barea said. "It's New York City. A lot of Puerto Ricans over there. And I like the coach [Mike D'Antoni] they have now. I love his system and the way they play. If I got to go somewhere, I would love to be there."

Well then that's your own opinion. I'm not saying it's true either, but to say the source doesn't exist? whatever.

ESPNInsider apparently also has that btw, but I'll wait for the "story" to see if it has legs.

EDIT: Oh get Barea the fuck outta here with that shit. Obviously that's a Mavericks plant feeding the story to the Post.

ESPNInsider? On their rumor page? The one where they charge you money by quoting other newspapers articles that are on the web for free?

Exactly! Perfectly trustworthy! Remember they broke the story on LeBron's booboo! :D

So basically you are saying that it must be true based on the fact that ESPN's rumor page is quoting the NY Daily News? :lol

The Knicks target a different player every week :lol

Its so sad.

The only one that managed to pull it off was Hakeem, and Lebron is no Hakeem.

Ayo lets not forget 2003.

Lebron's supporting cast is great. Prime top 10 players could win with this team easily.

People need to realize that Lebron just isn't playing at the appropriate level for a championship right now. He might next game though.

Hey why not? Knicks getting JJ Barea, Michael Redd, Rudy Gay, Carlos Boozer, re-signing David Lee, Amar'e, Joe Johnson, Dwyane Wade, Bill Walker, and they may have enough money to deal Eddy Curry for 2 Thunder 1st rounders. What's wrong with that?

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/66534/20100512/lebron_could_have_torn_ligament_in_elbow/

A medical professional close to LeBron James is suggesting James is suffering from a torn ligament in his right elbow, according to a report from Fear The Sword.

"Lebron has a torn ligament in his elbow that should keep him out 6 to 8 weeks," said the source. "He's trying to play through it and not complain, so the media doesn't know it's that serious. Before game 4 he had a shot in the elbow to numb it. You can only get the shot once every 10 days, so last night he couldn't do it."

Totally buy it. There's no way he's got that body language unless there's some serious pain. No other way to explain last night.

I've seen some very clearly agenda-driven performances by some refs. I do think they get coached by the league at times on how to handle certain series or games. They can't force players to miss shots or whatever, but every once in a while you see some stuff that goes beyond just missing a call or two.

Funny, Adrian Wojnoworski reported that the other day.

"He doesn't want to play in Minnesota. If they dealt his rights this summer, he'd be here by training camp."

Uh, no. He doesn't have an escape clause until next summer. And he was in Minneapolis last summer and enjoyed it. Whatever.

If this is the case, I still don't give him an out. 1) If its so terrible then he should be playing because he is becoming a hindrance to his team. 2) If he is out there then he needs to be doing other things besides scoring, be it passing, etc. 3) His body language has nothing to do with his elbow. He can still be a cheer leader for his team. He can get in their face. He can pump up the crowd. He can do that even with one arm.

Dan Crawford's performance in games 3 and 6 was awe-inspiring, that's for sure.

I knew someone would bring up the refs (rightfully so) but that Heat game wasn't exactly loaded with talent and still legitimately made it the finals and did bring home the trophy. Lebron's teammates are at least as good as Wade's. No excuse.

Aww...does LeBron need a kiss for his owie?

Fuck that shit.

IF YOU'RE PLAYING, YOU'RE PLAYING.

Otherwise, put on a suit and sit behind the bench.

KG has been playing on one leg and is still the loudmouth megadouche we all know and love.

Exactly. Even with one leg he is still cheer leading and getting in the face of his team mates. Lebron didn't do that last game. I honestly believe that had he done this, HAD he showed true emotion, the Cavs would have been a lot more close. Perhaps they would still have lost but not by 30. They react to James. They play off James. They emulate his demeanor and attitude and when you see your main guy, the MVP, looked dazed and confused, being at the other corner of the court from where a play is taking place, you're effected.

eh. He never got a second MRI. I'm sure it doesn't feel great though. For those that have been to a game, has he been throwing those half court shots with his right arm this series?

BULLSHIT.

JeBron would love nothing better than to have a real injury of that magnitude, he'd milk it for everything it's worth.

You've seen ESPN's coverage of his elbow... That's for a sore elbow due to a 'bone bruise'. Imagine the coverage it'd get if there was real structural damage.

It'd also be the perfect get out of jail pass for not living(performing) up to the hype.

BULLSHIT.

Lebron wants out of Cleveland. If he wins the title this year, he'd be called a fool for leaving and he'd be stuck in Cleveland forever. So what does James do, falsify an elbow injury and lose to a seasoned Boston team so he doesn't look like an a-hole. Well James, you look like an a-hole anyways because you have the team this year to win it all but you'd rather get out of dodge and play for a larger market.

I think at this point it would be easier to list the parts of Kobe's body that aren't injured.

This is sad. Lebron James is a shitty shooter. And has always been. He shoots 33% from 3 point line, and that his fg percentage goes up because he drives the ball in. He never drove the ball in the game. He gave up. Lebron James elbow wasn't the excuse, it is that he just didn't even care to play in Cleaveland anymore.

Guys I just received a rumor that the Knicks are interested in me being their PG of the future, you think I can ask for a max deal?

Can you dribble the ball in a circle and take 3's early in the shot clock?

Even if there is something wrong with his elbow that doesn't explain why he was playing like a giant pussy last night.

I am no doctor but I am pretty sure the legs are not connected to the elbow. Even if his elbow is fucked up he still could have driven to the basket a few times instead taking shitty step back three pointers all night.

I hear the Knicks are planning to sign so many free agents this summer, that Stern will be forced to split them into two teams. This way they can combine both teams' wins so that they can finally make the playoffs.

If they did that they'd have HCA throughout the playoffs. Heck an Amar'e-Lee-Gallo-Wade-Arenas teams could win 50. Plus Joe Johnson-Chandler-Shuttlesworth-Douglas-Barea-Boozer bench?

Part of the plan is to have the best NBA and the best NBADL teams at the same time. Guys like Ray Allen, Barea, Shaq, Stoudemire, Bosh, and Boozer will kill in the DL.

Crawford is a sack of shit.

This years playoffs haven't been all too interesting to me, only been paying attention to the box scores the day after.

RT @paulcoro: Gentry would be shocked if Lopez does not play. If he does play, he said there is a good chance he will start.

Starting a guy off an injury? Even for a superstar I would ease him in and bring him off the bench. Suns best chance to steal one in LA will be game 1.
