I'd be down for a NEO version of FFXV.

Well the good news is its required. Games launching in September have to be patched with a Neo version.

Only question is how much effort they put into it. Still with the Neo specs there's no reason it shouldn't maintain a constant 1080p and a stable 30fps. Just throw a nice level of AA over that and a Neo purchase is already justified for me.

Agreed. The visuals from the TGS 2015 trailer were good enough for me, but there were clear downgrades as time went on. If they can deliver a more stable frame rate and better IQ, it's day one for me.

Jesus your agenda is so clear. I imagine you will be close to a meltdown if what you are desperately hoping for doesn't happen. Just buy a Neo and you can relax and stop hating. For someone that has no interest in it you sure love talking about underwhelming it will be.

My 'agenda'? I'm not exactly sure what your talking about. I don't care about purchasing a NEO and i don't need your pushing either. I can still talk about it as much as i want here regardless of if i'm buying one or not.

I'm only saying what the realistic outcome will be. Developers are not going to to spend time making entirely different assets or graphical presets to take advantage of NEO's standards while they are trying to create the base game for the current consoles to begin with. Only PC multiplatform developers who already have the presets accounted for, and even then, they will simply tick a few graphical boxes or go for RES/FPS the same way.

So upports in regards to FPS/RES/AA are going to be the basic way forward for NEO.

Expecting different games like a generational shift is not only unreasonable to expect, its expressly forbidden in the documents.

As someone that has yet to find the "right" 4k TV to buy yet, there is one thing I'd like Sony to address during the conference, and I hope they learned from MS' mixed initial message about Scorpio...

And that is exactly how will this console really benefit those of us still on 1080p sets...like, will it perform proper downsampling for games where devs choose to push beyond 1080p, giving us some freebie AA?..

We know it will upscale to 4k...we know indie titles might be native 4k...we know Sony will be pushing reconstruction techniques to give us some FAUX K resolutions as well...

But what about us 1080peasants out there?

Hang on, I thought games released in October were required to be patched, not September games.

According to the leaked slides we got, October games have to launch with Neo support on the disc, late September games need to at least add Neo support via a day one patch.

As sexy as the Destiny TTK LE PS4 is, I would sell that one. I'm sure Sony and Bungo/Activision have a bunduru in the works for Destiny 2 next year.

I have the same choice but I have an OG PS4 without the manual buttons. I could swear my Destiny PS4 is louder and I can get more money for it...

Hang on, I thought games released in October were required to be patched, not September games.

Games in october are required to be patched at their launch dates. Games released in late September are required to have a patch at NEO's launch, which at this point, obviously won't be September. Every game is allowed to have a NEO patch ready before their game is launched.

His view about games being close to native 4K seems to be over optimistic, but yours is clearly wayyy pessimistic and irrealistic in the opposite sense.
Most PS4 games are already running at 1080p.
And with 2.3 times (at least if they're not upclocking it) the GPU power, 50% added CPU power and extra bandwidth, plus HDR support, improvements will be really noticeable. Sony is sending the message that for them even 1400p would be disappointing and they'd like developers to use smarter solutions.
So expecting 1080p with more stable frame rate as the common scenario is not realistic.
Even the Xbox One S with a 100 Megaflops upgrade can produce better frame rate in a few games :P
I'm sure they're bringing convincing arguments on September 7th with a few first party games like Horizon and the inevitable Uncharted 4 patch.

CPU upclock is not 50%, its 30%(also jaguar scales worse the higher it is overclocked, so that upclock doesn't scale linearly with performance). And my expectations, i don't even know. I have only said not to get over excited about the possibilities and look at the bare minimum sony have outlined in the documents so people are not disappointed.

I hope with FF15, the inevitable PC version's graphical presets gets added in slowly. At NEO's launch, i only expect a more stable and 1080p version of the PS4 original.

But we've seen over the development of this game, assets that are far too taxing for the PS4 during development cut out, so i hope some of that like foliage and such come back.

Just notice that the colour palette represent 4K/HDR.

That's awesome

I'm really looking forward to seeing what HDR can bring to gaming.

Question: I like playing at my desk. Assuming the "Neo" has some form HDR is a 4K monitor like this worth it or can only TV's take advantage of these features? Do they even make monitors with HDR my research turns up none. Maybe I should just spend the $$ and get a TV with HDR...

Is a TV that big 40-55 inch even healthy that close?

Between this and PSVR so many decisions...decisions... and money to be spent.

HDR is really difficult to explain you should all visit a Best Buy

Why can't they just say 'better colors'? Its like going from 16 bit to 32 bit color differentiation.

If worse comes to worse, they could compare it like going from composite wires to component wires in terms of richer color, although i don't know if its on that level.

Do people play games with mute sounds? Both my ps4's are quiet....

And it helps having 2 ps4's. The Xbox 1 still held strong Ish trade in price even after S was announced, so hoping same stays true with ps4 to trade one in.

Sold my PS4 to Gamestop this week for $200.

Was that store credit?

So since Gameblog was right about the NEO release date, i wonder if they were right all along about the NX revealed week after Neo and this

"The ultimate power of NX therefore be around that of the future PS4K Neo, and all would be designed with components " to date "do not set the cutting edge of technology. we confirmed that Nintendo was definitely more in this technology race.

According to our sources, three major deals with third-party publishers have also contributed to the delay ... the game simply is not ready. Among the names mentioned, Square Enix and Capcom , two Japanese major publishers, would be part of the allies of Nintendo for what some would call internally "reconquest of operation." A large part of these titles and publishers should arrive on Nintendo NX, with a few exclusives in preparation.

In addition to the highly anticipated Zelda Breath of the Wild will happen simultaneously on Wii U and NX as well as confirmation that a "real" new Mario is in preparation , many remasters like Zelda Skyward Sword , additions to Mario Kart and Smash Bros are also underway. "

Ugh, 4K HDR sets seem really expensive right now.

I bet we'll be seeing a price drop next year.. but then I want one now for the Neo. The struggle.

Do I need an HDR compatible TV?

Or does NEO automaticaly display HDR content onto my 1080p Bravia (2012) set?

Seems like they are going to be pushing HDR in a big way due to their banner.

I wonder what that can bring to gaming? We've had HDR lighting for a long time in games, and games like Halo 3 showcase the absolute upper limit of that technology IMO. Unlike the overuse of fake looking bloom in the later half of the 6th gen to fake actual lighting, HDR lighting really gives a beautiful presentation to the light sources.

Uh, every game is not expected to be 1800p minimum, that's crazy talk. Sony have said that at launch, the only requirement will be that games are 1080p minimum and the FPS doesn't run worse than OG PS4.

You might be confused with the PDF stating that the NEO mode SDK at the time only allowed for higher resolutions with no downscale, but would be changed to allow 1080p rendering in later SDK's.

Devs are not going to be restricted to rendering in high resolutions versus 1080p and huge amounts of AA or smoothing over GPU bound scenarios.

Where did you get that information from? I'm not confused you are

Need an HDR tv. HDR is basically like a massively improved contrast ratio and maximum brightness/darkness. Makes stuff look far more lifelike. A sunny scene will genuinely look far closer to how you'd see the scene in real life versus the dulled down version a regular tv gets across. Or something like that. Combined with the fidelity of 4K, and with high framerate source footage it all combines to make the tv seem more like a window into reality, really impressive in the flesh. And I've not even seen it myself, but I can sort of imagine!

Awww fuck :/

My next TV upgrade is sometime around 2020, I'm gonna be so late to the HDR party...

HDR + OLED is gonna be a brilliant combo, I think.

HDR lighting is far different from a TV with HDR. It makes colors look better and more distinct to how they were originally captured/imagined. No Man's Sky with HDR support would be bleeding color out of the TV.

You mean in terms of quality, its far higher? A TV supporting HDR, and games supporting HDR with their own HDR rendering methods would make one's eyeballs explode supposedly.

Smaller triangle is the range that current TVs display, larger triangle is HDR

Can't wait, I'm in!

Also Sony was saying something about the Apple model of releasing soon after it is announced. Maybe Neo will be out in a month!

Can;t believe people are selling their OG ps4. I'm keeping mine for future possibilities of playing co op or boosting some multiplayer trophies.
