I just can't understand sony's stance at this point.
I mean, Why 4k upsaceld gaming is so importent to them? Mendate games in 1080p/60fps sounds like a way better selling point to me. I also got the impression that a lot of people here were loud about 60fps being importent for them.

Thing is, we don't have any stance from Sony of this. Yes, there is the leaked presentation, but things could've easily changed by now.

I just hope that every question will be answered on the 7th. I mean, the confusion is not really Sony's fault, since it got leaked and didn't get officially announced.
 
I think Sony suffering internal power struggle between department, mainly between US HQ and Japan.
Japan studio game don't get the marketing budget, GTS get delay, US studio not on board with VR which seems to be mainly push by Shuhei, departure of Adam, Shu get off the camera etc are the signs.
I think SIEJ still salty about HQ moved to US and hardware team in Japan not cooperate with WWS, not adjusting the design base on Devs demand, Neo have no focus, it's a disaster and mark the downfall of Playstation.

Ofcourse I just based their apprent stance by the leaked information. And thigs could have been changed.

I just hope the NEO will be a worthy upgrade, otherwise this MID-GEN console upgrades are not worth it.

Not at all. It was genuinely super informative to read. I mean, it was a technical breakdown of someone's work on a game (a game which I happen to love), and while I have zero idea about how games generally work, it was written in a easy to understand manner. (It also confirmed a few thoughts I'd had while playing about the companion AI in campaign mode.) Thank you for posting it.

Yes raytracing , I told people that PS4 would bring life back to software rendering years ago & now you see Dreams. Now I'm just hoping that they also use what they have learned while making Dreams & use it to better the hardware for volume rendering & so on.

It's not upscale & devs can do both have the game in 4K & 1080P 60fps

I think Andrew House is lukewarm on PSVR.

I can't remember the interviewer but there were a couple of answers he gave that sounded less like genuine enthusiasm for the product and more like a PR line.

They want Neo to complement their UHD TVs and vice versa.

You don't need a UHD TV to get some benefit from Neo, but once people have one there will be an extra temptation to upgrade their TV to get UHD gaming and movies.

I've said it before, but the market cares more about resolution than framerate. If that wasn't the case you'd see more 60fps games now.

Besides, Neo suppose to market for enthusiast, those are very framerate sensitive crowd.

I'm guessing market research suggests framerate is simply not that important a factor. No one has ever mandated a minimum framerate on a platform outside of scenarios where its needed for physical comfort, like VR. Platform holders have otherwise left the choice to developers.

If it is that important, developers will serve that demand. As is, it seems to turn out it's important for the audience of some types of game and not for others. In some cases people seem to prefer richer fidelity to framerate. If that is the case it makes sense to leave it to the developer to decide for their game.

Neo will give PS4 developers more capability than ever to hit 60fps if that's what they want for their game.

Thats why Insomniac made 30fps Ratchet game.

It's just so sad. You actually need to wait a gen to play a remaster with 60fps.

Because the want to market Neo as a 4k console, it's as easy as that. 4k is also the main differentiator between Neo and PS4 Slim.

Maybe in the Ps3 era everybody would have had these thoughts...

But for Ps4 Cerny came in and Sony changed to be focused on western markets and developer needs to make a console fit for their biggest markets. Seems business 101 and a 'duh' moment but it was a big change.

Sony would be crazy to go back to their old ways, dont buy it even if it would be interesting to observe. Hopefully Sony sat down with Cerny and devs and made the right choices, which to me is a lowest cost possible slim and the best performing 'option' in the Neo that the technology and costs allow in a bigger well cooled box - if that means waiting until jan / feb for zen lite or whatever then hopefully Sony play the mid and not short game..

Lets face it there are 2 main console consumer profiles, one that wants value, and one that wants performance but in the console space. Sony must not get them crossed over or confused.

I believe for a performance Neo Sony need to think about the CPU performance, memory bus bandwidth, the hard drive interface speed (SATA 3) and the cooling so they can go with aggressive clocks.
 
Thunderbolt 3 in psneo for additive power. You want gt sport in 4k buy 2 playstation neo's stack them and link them. But Seriously I am expecting around 4.0 TF anything more is great.

Why was having a bluray player in the PS3 so important to Sony? Because they have a big stake in that medium.

Same with "4K" .. Sony has a lot of business riding on 4K/UHD content. TVs, bluray players, their own movie production (Sony Pictures is huge), streaming service, etc.

imho; Neo is -mostly- a 4K content trojan horse first; and an updated PS4 second.

I think, just from a developer perspective, I'm not sure why a mandated requirement for 60FPS is a good thing at all. Or any other such requirements that aren't based in some sort requirement for player health and so on.

Developers having as few as possible arbitrary restrictions placed on them by manufacturers, the better it is for the industry and gamers is my thought process.

Fuck GTAV. 3 year old game that every one and their dog has played and bought twice.



Nioh is already 1080/60fps...but it looks bad that way.

Is the new beta any better FPS wise then the alpha? The alpha had a horrible time maintaining 60 FPS.

What I'm trying to say is... a Neo mode that gives me 1080p/60fps locked for Nioh... that's a system seller!

I think if Neo mode give any games 1080p/60fps locked is the system seller.
