Haven't followed this thread at all.
Is this thing gonna get crushed spec wise by Scorpio or what?

Of course its going to be more powerful than Neo, its 12-14 months away, its only early development right now, with that kind of extra development window. If its not more powerful than Neo, they will never hear the end of it.
But Neo will be now, and I'm sure it will be amazing.

Yep. No doubt about it. However neo should be out soon. Later this year or early next. Scorpio won't release until fall 17. So until then the neo will be the most powerful console.

I'm not interested in buying another xbox again since microsoft are bringing their games to pc. While they arent the full versions halo 5 and forza 6 is on pc. Horizon 3 is coming too. Those were my favourite games. I have a pc that is already more powerful than what scorpio will be so there is no point in me getting one. However i hope to get a ps4 neo to play exclusives with better visuals and performance.

we don't know yet they haven't shown it to us yet!
Yeah you dont say...but i was asking based on any info or rumors we knew but thanks for your helpful comment

I guess if you're worried about specs, just wait for the next iteration of PS4 after Neo. The PS4 Neo...Geo.

How many tflops are we looking at now? Any leaks?

We're still at the leaked specs from april, that were already supposedly final specs. I just want them to upclock the CPU by .1 or down .1 and we're set.

Yep, but that is to be expected considering Scorpio is coming out next year. If they launched a full year later and weaker than NEO, it would be a feat of engineering fail so bad, they would be laughed out of the industry. Atleast with the PS3, Sony had a complicated architecture to fall back on as an excuse

The Neo will consume us all in a ball of 5TF atomic heat.
Houses will burn when 2.2Ghz quantum CPU'S aren't cooled properly.
Blue (probably white) LED'S will blind cats who dare to look directly into the Neo's eye.
Fingers will be mutilated when people can't snatch their hands away from the eject button properly.
Children will be electrocuted when the 400w PSU sends volts of Zues's fury surging through the control pad.

The Neo is a beast. The Neo is life. The Neo is the future.

God bless you, Venom Fox.

I wish. But many said CPU is too weak, 60fps is impossible for Neo unless devs downgrade the graphic.

Mostly graphics representation is unrelated to Cpu power it is more limited by Gpu power, what is limiting the ps4 of the golden 60 fps in games is not the gpu tied side but the cpu tied side.

Physics, a.i, sound reverberation, and spatial interaction of objects are all examples of cpu tasks, these kind of things are limited by the IPC which is in turn is dictated by the clock speed and architecture of the Cpu. Hence, although if the neo increases the clock speed of the Jaguar 8 cores. The processor's IPC is inherently low, which means even if you clock it to 2.2 Ghz the PS4 neo would be still limited by its CPU and now even more if the rumours of a 5TF GPU are true.

You can take for example all driving simulators this generation whenever you crank up the number of cars per track you start seeing the FPS dwindling below the target FPS.

I can kind of relate, i would probably drive myself insane if Sony keeps the CPU clock speed at 2.1GHZ, just because that .1 will just drill into my brain and cause havok. Atleast downclock it to 2.0 or upclock it to 2.2

Odd numbers are digusting

You acknowledge you have a problem, right?

OK. So devs need to downgrade the A.I, the CPU bound things to archive 60fps on Neo.

Well, with GPU compute they can run CPU tasks off the GPU.. how much would be the question and will it only be 1st party that seem can put the time into that.

You acknowledge you have a problem, right?

Yep, its luckily isolated to a relative few ticks, or else it would be a real issue in my daily life xD

We should just make our own console. Fuck the Neo.

The neo was always designed with enhancing the 4K push with greater visual fidelity and effects. Visual enhancements relating to IQ such a resolution are a huge part of that, that's why they prioritized the GPU upgrade over everything else.

FPS is way down the list, but because of the upclock, you'll get much stabler framerates than PS4 by default.

They need to design their games' A.I suiting the available power, One aspect of game design that have stagnated for a while is A.I. For example if the ps4 and xbox one shipped with an i-5 equivalent cpu then you would see many current targeting 60 fps games actually hitting their target with better, smarter, and more interactive A.I. But this could not be achieved at the time, as both console creaters wanted to derive from unique architectures and adopt a more familiar x86 cpu arch and amd offered the best deal.Sadly like everything else in life eye-candy sells.
And what i mean by even more is that, although you have nearly a 2.8x gpu you still have a bad cpu which means that the only thing the neo can provide if they use the same cpu. Is better graphics setting, resolution, and higher frame rate in gpu tied situations. Otherwise the cpu bump will only give of the maximum of a 5fps increase in the worst cpu tied situations.

Wonder if Watch Dogs 2 is going to be a decent chunk of the show.

Sony got the timed exclusive DLC and marketing but the game hasnt been at any Sony shows so far.

Biggest noticeable improvement they can make aside from res will be draw distance, IMO.

Console versions always got shit DD. It sucks when you run up to a high point and half of the view is fogged out.

I have to say, I really hope Neo's design is more like the original PS4 than the PS4 Slim.

I'm buying Neo at launch, regardless.

After some research of old regulatory stuff, I am placing my bet confidently the slim will launch on Oct. 13, 2016 alongside PSVR and the Neo will launch on or shortly after than Nov. 10th, 2016.

This post has me hyped! Destroy me Neo!

I'm glad to see the new drawing from the factory. I hope they do go with three thin layers like that it looks really good. To our artist in the factory: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DRAW THE BACK SO WE CAN SEE IF THERE'S AN OPTICAL PORT!

No way. The slim is releasing no more than a week after the meeting. There are so many out in the wild already. They wouldn't sit on those for a month and a half.

1. Maybe for you but not for everyone...this will get better
2. Deal with it
3. Yes a very small audience

I understand you like BC, but the point is majority don't care much about it. Let's have a better Neo instead of some BC shit worked into it.

Well hopefully they don't waste their time and money on BC at all and increase the price of Neo because of BC in it. That would suck.

People don't want to keep buying software over and over and over again....put BC in the neo please.
I'm not buying a "4k" console that can upres my ps4 games and make the fps better and can play 4k movies....I don't own a 4k tv nor do I care to buy one right now they are way to pricey. Maybe down the road sure but right now nope. Sony needs to give the consumer a reason to buy the neo over there current ps4 because there are 40 million ps4 users and I can guarantee 2% only care about the neo. The rest just wanna play their ps4 games.

The only other way they do this earlier is if they're using a shell company to push through their regulatory work. They have in the past, so I wouldn't put it past them.

Slim is "available now" material, retailers are getting the units already.
Neo is October/November. Wouldn't be surprised with the latter so that they can stockpile more units and more games supporting it will be available at launch although I'd really like to play The Last Guardian directly on Neo.

Actually, now that I think about it, they may have used a shell company to take care of the slim approvals and then used their own for the Neo, which would make more sense since they are likely just ramping up towards full product of the Neo after they got through the FCC earlier in August.

That would put Neo on track for the side-by-side launch with PSVR or later depending on sales projections and how much stock they need.

I bet less than 2% of of the 40 million PS4 owners care about PS3 BC

in fact way more care about better graphics than playing PS3 games

It doesn't matter what you "want", it matters what you do. And consumers have proved more than willing to buy the same software over and over. So companies will continue to sell the same software. Over and over.

And another point: If you think prettier graphics and better performance isn't giving "the consumer a reason to buy the neo over there [sic] current PS4," but backwards compatibility is, you do not have your finger on the pulse of the market like you think you do.

Spec wise? Sounds like it. Games wise? As in true exclusives...doubtful.
If the power difference is enough, maybe we see a few more on Xbox than we have so far.

Well have to wait and see the difference first and how it translates to sales.

Someone will want to focus on a highest of high end game if a difference is there?

nah this is illogical as it will destroy the advantage of having a unified memory pool, unless they change the whole system architecture .

It would still be a unified memory pool . when I said RX 480 I didn't mean the actual card I'm talking about the chip that's being used for Neo that has the same specs of the RX 480 but clocked lower

SLI

What if there are 3 modes? PS4, Neo (4.2TF) and NeoX (5.5TF)

It would be Base mode 1.84TF , Neo 4.2TF , Neo Dual Graphics 6.04TF

Edit: but then again the APU might also have it's CU's clocked at 911Mhz in Neo mode so it would be 6.29TF in dual mode

If the Neo isn't launching until November, then I don't get Andrew House's comments about Apple-like release schedule. A 2 month gap from announcement to release isn't "Apple-like."

Maybe he was talking about the PS4 slim because it looks like that is definitely releasing in September.
