My Nintendo Thread: Mii Nintendo, U Nintendo, Wii Nintendo

I wonder when us NA folk will be able to get the Metroid theme

I'd rather use my coins on something I might use than Miitomo stuff and/or them outright expiring lol. I wish (or hope they will) the site would show how many coins are expiring the next month.

EDIT: i forgot how many points i have

I'm usually not in a WiFi source while I'm out, and already have unlimited texting. Therefore having SMS use data isn't ideal with a limited monthly data plan. Seems like maybe it's best for people in bad cellular areas who do have WiFi available? (Also am on Android, so don't have to deal with iMessage.) Not really seeing a reason to use it, yet. Is there a specific usecase where it's just great and regular messaging would fail or be too inconvenient outside of file size restrictions?

Nobody's using SMS anymore here, maybe that's the main difference. So while everyone has unlimited data, nobody wants to pay for calls and SMS.

Everybody's just used to Whatsapp now, some of my friends don't even reply anymore if it's an SMS.

Doesn't text messaging have character limits? (idk, not sure when last I sent anyone a text)

How do people feel about having to send texts to you instead of WhatsApp/FB Messenger messages? Everything just seems way more convenient to me, and quicker.

Basically this. I'm in the Caribbean and it's the same.

Dude, with that many built up you'll literally never spend it all on stuff you really want, especially before half of it expires. Just spend it on shit. There's no real reason to save.

I'm at 4500+ as well. 60 gold coins.

Wario Land 3 and Donkey Kong 3 are the only Gold rewards I don't already own. This is including coupons.

For Silver, I own everything except Yoshi and Mario Party and spending coins on coupons for games I do not want seems stupid.

Sucks Pokemon Go never got integrated with my Nintendo (understandable), but at least the new AC and the new FE on mobile will. Right? Here's hoping.

Unlimited calls/texts and limited data here. :lol

For some older phones, I think it splits it across multiple text messages. On mine, it's just one big text message, though.

What about regional breakdowns? I've seen Germany and the Caribbean. Is the U.S. less likely to use Whatsapp?

Edit:
Yeah, apparently unlimited SMS has been a factor in Whatsapp not being as big in the U.S. as in the rest of the world. Sorry you guys still have to pay for texts. :( Can at least see why Whatsapp makes such a big difference, though! :lol

Can you even send unlimited photos and videos? Is it the same for all of your friends? Internationally?

I think you can have unlimited texts over here if you get a contract, but it's more than often not worth it if you only need data. And phones aren't really subsidized anymore, making contracts even less useful.

Reading your link, they mention Wechat. Wechat is gorgeous. I can use it to send money to friends, to message friends, to call and video call people, to pay in shops and restaurants, to top up my phone, to pay my electricity bill. That thing is magic. As soon as I leave China, it's just a messenger again.

Question, for the discount coupon awards... Are those expiration dates for how long its gonna be a My Nintendo award or how long you can use the coupon?

Photos and videos would use data, and there are size restrictions. 1 photo is usually fine, but 2 may need to be 2 separate messages. Videos have to be majorly shrunk to be sent via text, but really, how often do you need to send the actual video to someone. Usually it's someone else's video which is a link, or you upload it to Youtube/Facebook and send the link. For international, for better or worse, most people in the U.S. just know other people in the U.S. International communication via phone doesn't come up just a whole lot, then. No contracts for unlimited text, either. It's usually just a feature of whatever monthly plan you're on. Data allowance per month and overall cost is usually what has to be weighed out when picking a plan, then.

Interesting discussion, we should keep that for another topic :)

Anybody wants a download code for one of the Kid Icarus movies? I have one to give away.

Yeah, I have the Link theme and the music is just this weird generic shop style music which doesn't fit the theme at all.

If it was as catchy and chill as the 3DS/U/Wii eShop music that'd be one thing. It's grating though. And yes, why not some theme appropriate music? Just drop a Zelda song in there or something.

No reason to use these themes when there are far better, like Hanafuda or Shovel Knight Campfire.

Gold points are now valid for 12 months instead of 6 months. This change is also true for already obtained gold points. There's no change for platinum points.

Oh shit, really? Does this apply retroactively? Would potentially mean most if not all of the gold coins we've acquired so far could carry up to the NX launch.

I know im late to the party but how sad is it that the most exciting metroid related news for me personally is going onto miitomo drop and the website to get clothing.

"YEAH I WON A RIDLEY I CAN WEAR ON MY BACK"

Oh baby Nintendo remembered that this is a thing so they hit a panic button real quick!

Nah just kidding. I can only assume this site will pick up some steam as we approach the NX release. Maybe for the 3DS' and Wii U's swan song we'll get something special.

Thank goodness for doubling the amount of time you can use Gold Points.

So, hopefully the direct comes with an actual rewards update and that's why we got nothing the last few times... Maybe a bit too optimistic?
I kind of wondering the same thing, but I won't get my hopes up too high. Would be neat if perhaps one of the games they confirmed/talked about got a coupon, or perhaps "this cheap game is available now, or for #### points, you can get it cheaper or for free" but I don't see that happening.

Is this real? Because six months for gold coins you can spend on nothing but Pilotwings was ridiculous.

Edit: yes it's real. Just read the news on the MyNintendo site.

Man, don't knock that mini-Ridley. Some people would love to have that.

I bought 10 tickets from MyN the other day, wasted all of them failing to get the mini-Ridley accessory :lol

I DID manage to get the mini-Metroid accessory though.

North American region here. I'll probably end up spending some gold points on Super Mario Kart and Wario Land 3. Am I the only one here who feels that these aren't completely awful rewareds? I guess if you already own alot of VC games, it's a letdown, but with the uncertainty involving NX VC, I've been holding out for the most part.

They should allow gifting for clothes. I've got 3 Ridleys now. haha. Actually, the Metroid gear motivated me to start up Miitomo again after months. I think it's kind of cool and hope it carries over to your Mii on NX.

The problem isn't so much the rewards themselves, but the glacial rate their being replaced at.

I was going to grab that Ocarina of Time coupon before the news of Gold coins lasting more than six months already have the physical version anyway. Hmmm.

Anybody still have the EU links to Bravely Theme and WarioWare rewards? I have no idea how much time, if any still, I of left to use the download codes…
go to your points history, they added a "view code" link to the part where you used coins to redeem them.
It doesn't tell how long it's valid, though. I figured it out, six months it is. Will add some links to the wiki.

AmeriGAF, what text language does this reward page have to you? It's German for me, but we shouldn't have got it.

Spanish here in Mexico

New Platinum rewards (Europe)

15% discount on Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros.
30% discount on Mario Galaxy
30% discount on Nano Assault Ex
50% discount on XTYPE

New Gold rewards
Mario Kart DLC1

Explains why they extended the validity of gold coins.

The discounts have been removed in NA with nothing to replace them.

Either we're getting surprise goodies come tomorrow's Direct or this is yet another month where stuff is taken away yet nothing's added.
