Who cares about the slim?
"Heres a different looking PS4! Does the exact same thing..... Ok bye!"
If Sony only had the slim, and the Neo didn't exist, there would be no PS Meeting right now.
Guys..
What if they bust a February event and don't show the box. Just some games running and they don't show the box or the price...
....til psx.
...because it's 2017..
Guys...
Have they talked about digital purchases between a OG/Slim PS4 and Neo?
Everything will be the same. The ecosystem is still the same, the games are the same, the only difference is there will be a machine that will improve some previous games( and games in the future) due to extra hardware.
New hardware announcements is always exciting, especially if launch is in a month or two.
Its gonna be funny because there are going to be two reactions. Either people will be dissapointed with specs or fairly happy with specs lol
5.5TF at $499 strikes the perfect balance I think.
Something tells me they might miss the mark a bit and make it $549 though. And many people will be crying hard here if that happens.
Why $549 when you can go $599 again?!

What kind of sorcery is this? It reminded me of N64's microcode...
Microdata produced computers in which the microcode is accessible to the user; this allows the creation of custom assembler level instructions. Microdata's Reality operating system design makes extensive use of this capability.
The Nintendo 64's Reality Coprocessor (RCP), which serves as the console's graphics processing unit and audio processor, utilizes microcode; it is possible to implement new effects or tweak the processor to achieve the desired output. Some notable examples of custom RCP microcode include the high-resolution graphics, particle engines, and unlimited draw distances found in Factor 5's Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, and Star Wars: Battle for Naboo;[11][12] and the full motion video playback found in Angel Studios' Resident Evil 2.[13]
For more details on Nintendo 64 microcode, see Nintendo 64 programming characteristics and Nintendo 64 Game Pak.
The VU0 and VU1 vector units in the Sony PlayStation 2 are microprogrammable; in fact, VU1 is only accessible via microcode for the first several generations of the SDK.
I think $499 USD is the highest Sony could reasonably price Neo, without a ton of backlash.
Why 599 when you can go 699 with 2TB HDD? I mean it is premium as a unit after all, price ranges dont exist, they dont care if it sells 1 unit
Seriously, some of you guys have no idea how to price electronics to make them viable as products
I think $499 USD is the highest Sony could reasonably price Neo, without a ton of backlash.
i think they'd get tons of backlash with that price too.
I think 449 would be the absolute limit for the tolerance of most core people looking at the NEO, and even then would have to come with something above 500GB HDD.
Because there isn't a cheaper alternative for people that just want the latest games?
i think they'd get tons of backlash with that price too, cause of the XB1's original price.
Increasing PS+'s price without any tangible benefit or concession for that increase is already having people call Sony arrogant and cocky again.

Well, I will have to agree with you. I'd say there are three possibilities for price (in USD).
lowest: $399
middle: $449
highest: $499
Edit:
The cheaper alternative for people just wanting to play the latest games (and don't care about improved graphics, 4K, HDR, etc) would be the PS4 Slim.

This.I'm saying $399. I just can't see them pricing it above the original PS4. Obviously it's a more powerful machine but it's still the same platform that was released three years ago. The average consumer might not understand these incremental/non-generational upgrades... yet.
It would be kind of dumb if the PS4 slim is not cheaper then the XB1 slim and all its 4K stuff.
I think 279 would be the highest they can go. Then 399 for the NEO. Its a decent gap inline with last years versus this years ipad gap.
Sony can be that dumb sometimes. I can see 299 for the slim and 450 for the neo.

The way I see it...
If the slim is 299 then the neo is over 400 and probably 450
If the slim is sub 299 then the neo is 399
Considering how much losses MS has been eating with the original Xbone by having it perpetually on sale, I think it's Microsoft who is desperately trying to move units with the low price point while Sony makes a tidy profit off their hardware. I wouldn't be surprised if the slim costs the same as the S.It would be kind of dumb if the PS4 slim is not cheaper then the XB1 slim and all its 4K stuff.
This is too many options man...bigger HDD can be easily swapped out yourself, I think, especially at launch, just one SKU per console. Sony does the bigger ones with special edition launches.PS4 slim

I know we don't have specs yet but what are the chances the Neo comes close to the performance to something like an i5-6500 + 1060 GTX?

This reminds me that they had their best montage ever at PS Meeting 2013:

Hopefully we'll get a good one again this year.
I would put the chances of it being $399 at 5%. Sorry dude.

So basically, you want it to suck enough that nobody really wants it especially you and you also want it to be affordable in case you do want it. Sure, that seems like a reasonable set of design goals for Sony. Then i will say 249 for slim and 399 for NEO. 449 max for NEO.
Don't see Sony being dumb enough to price this thing out of the marketplace just because some seem to think people won't raise a shitstorm just cause the slim is around.
What some people calling for 499, 549 and other insane prices have to understand about the NEO, is that people looking to upgrade from OG PS4 are not interested in the slim by and large, but also don't want to pay huge ass prices for what amounts to a marginal upgrade to play the same games, these units are for different markets entirely and don't really overlap.
You can say "well they don't have to upgrade if they dont feel its worth it!" But that's not going to fly as an argument for a portion of those 40 million users who would be alienated, who want to upgrade but are stuck with paying significantly more for this unit than the original PS4 they bought that has already significantly lost its price value.
If the leaked specs are true, they are essentially only paying for a shiny new case and a marginally better GPU with some marginal upclocks to CPU and RAM, not enough at all to price this thing that high, the 480 as a GPU aint that pricey, its a mid range GPU.

Would he cool of we could have a Neo setting manually selecting quality like PC. I'd rather play a 30fps ultra gorgeous game than anything 60fps.
Super curious if this extra feature is legit and what it is.
Also hoping for name changes for psn. Coming I think but not sure when.
He's said as much several times. So basically, you want it to suck enough that nobody really wants it especially you and you also want it to be affordable in case you do want it. Sure, that seems like a reasonable set of design goals for Sony.

Getting my bets in before the week begins:
- The new slim PS4 will get more than passing attention. The success of the PS4 and software lineup past and future will be highlighted alongside hardware refinements like the >30% size reduction and improved WiFi. The accompanying price reduction won't be as extreme as many here would predict, most likely dropping to $299. If Sony's feeling aggressive the new retail price could be $279 but $249 is wishful thinking and $199 simply isn't realistic just yet. Availability could be immediate, definitely within a week or two.
- PSVR will be covered with one last look at the launch lineup and prominent launch window titles. No change to pricing or launch date, and any changes to Move or Camera will be minimal. Sony will emphasize that the 40 million existing owners can add PSVR as an affordable path to a compelling VR experience.
- PS4 Neo will be unveiled last with a focus on taking advantage of new display technologies. Sony will emphasize wide color gamut and high dynamic range as much as resolution. Side-by-side footage or screen shots will be shown magnified and gamut normalized to demonstrate the differences. There will be one noteworthy hardware feature that wasn't leaked which Sony has been carefully hiding, and I have only wild guesses about what that could be. We'll see current and already announced titles, but we'll also get at least one software significant announcement. Pricing is harder to pin down. I'll put my guess at $499 with availability no later than mid-November, but probably no earlier than PSVR's launch.
