So the event is being streamed, right?

Man, I have to get up at 5AM JST on the 8th to watch it (will probably skip Apple's event as that would mean waking up at 2).

Can't wait :)

Probably because any type of PS3 BC would be because of directly adding in ps3 chips to the neo, which would raise the cost of the console. Nobody would be mad if BC was done through software alone, but for PS3 BC that is extremely unlikely at this point.

People keep saying Neo is "premium hardware" and therefore will have a premium price tag of $499 or more.

Premium compared to the ps4, but compared to current hardware it's not really premium. A $399 price is entirely doable while still making a profit.

I don't think any console will launch at $499 again. I even think scorpio will be $399 or $449, which is a fair price tag in fall 2017.

Has it been already shared? The Financial Times published by mistake an article saying that Neo would launch next week.

But seriously, I am not fully convinved myself, either. I want to see the games and how exactly they benefit from Neo mode before I decide. That's why it's important for me that hey show some games. Because, last time I checked, games like UC4 or the new GoW looked awesome on the old PS4.
same. I wanna see what Ps4K was all about.

This whole past year I've shown nothing but hate for it - for myself anyways, I never wanted to kill enthusiasm for those who wanted it. At this point in my life though if I took this out of it I feel like I'd be in an even worse place. Let's wait for sept 7th.

-because it's a premium item
-uhd players arent cheap
-rumored larger hdd, larger 2.5 hdds arent as cheap
-ps4 is still selling well
-the slim will be the affordable sku
-there will be no competition for a console like that till scorpio
-dropping the price when scorpio arrives seems smart

...

exactly. its a pipe dream

You work is related to sells?
That's quite impressive.

They could do $350 no problem with a 1TB drive.

Everyone is talking about Neo but we didn't discuss the new Portable enough.
Will they announce a new Portable to start with? How much veracity this rumour has, especially when nothing has been leaked about it unlike Neo?
What could Sony offer to make the new Portable device survive? A dedicated portable gaming console is not viable these days (same happened to Nvidia Shiled Portable, they aren't even updating their systems to newer Android versions and they are stuck on Android 5 which doesn't read 64 GB memory cards; let alone annoucne Shield Portable 2) especially in prominence of smartphones.
Should they announce the new NGP as a portable console-phone (like N-Gage for example) to compete with current smartphones, two hours before the announcement of iPhone 7?

media markt germany is selling two ps4s for 398€. thats 199€ for a ps4 if you split with a buddy

i might get on this

You can see danish retailers as well starting to write that they only have limited amount of PS4s left. Gotta clear that remaining stock before putting slims on the shelves.

So there will be a new portable but nothing more than a revision for Vita?

There'll be nothing. This is more than likely a discontinuation of the device seeing as I can't imagine it was a massive seller in China anyway. I'd like to be proven wrong, and the timing is suspect, but thinking Sony's going to put out another dedicated handheld especially after their recent mobile comments is wishful thinking to me.

Forgetting the matter of how doable or not doable a 4.2 TF spec + 1TB drive + PS3 BC Neo would be. The final price is not the issue, no matter what price it launches at while including the ps3 chip, people still would be mad as there'll always be the thought "how much more powerful could it have been had they spent all the money on the upgrades rather than spending a chunk of it on including the ps3 chip"

I'd expect a Vita revision and nothing more. Even a revision seems pointless, but it's at least plausible.

People aren't talking about the portable because it's a silly idea. At the very most (and even this feels like a bit of a stretch) it's a Vita revision.

There is really a ton that they can cover in this meeting:

PS4 Slim
PS4 Neo
New Neo Feature*
Firmware Update
PSVR
PS+ Price Increase
PS Handheld*
Exclusive Games*

All speculation, just possibilities. Very much hype.

1. People now have a viable alternative in the $299 PS4 Slim. It plays all the same games.
2. Likely a big goal of the new iterative-console model is to widen the accepted price range (of consoles).
3. It's being described as a Premium product.
4. A mere $100 difference to cover for UHD, 2.5x the specs etc? Probably true for material-cost but conceived consumer value is likely higher.
But the price needs to be adjusted...it needs to fairly balance the age of the technology and the perceived incremental upgrade to the current PS4. I mean £400 would suggest a whole new generation and I don't think that's right, unless people are really considering Sony will charge anything from £450 to £500 for PS5 when that launches in years to come.

Doesn't that seem a little much?

It's a more powerful PS4. Why would it be the same price ?
It would still be more expensive than a PS4 Slim because that would be cheaper anyway. Sony are just replacing the old current pricing unit with a new one while the PS4 Slim is re-adjusted. It means Sony can continue to sell PS4's at a higher price without actually increasing the cost of entry to the PlayStation ecosystem.

So the cost of this technology going in to PS4Neo is reletively more expensive than that of the PS4 in 2013? I would have thought the technology is reasonable more mature and cheaper today. I guess that determines wiggle-room for Microsoft Scorpio at the end of next year.

I'm still seeing £450. I can't see why they would prohibit an enhanced PSVR experience with such a high cost to the father format.

I'm saying £350 max on price. Even that's more than the £325 PS4 launch.

I'd expect a Vita revision and nothing more. Even a revision seems pointless, but it's at least plausible.

But we already had a newer Vita 2000 with the worse LCD screen and worse buttons etc...
How worse can the Vita become? It's dead and we don't need it to decay more.

Yeah if Sony NA don't announce details about the stream tomorrow it would be incredibly strange. Today is Labor day so they will probably skip it but tomorrow is their last chance

I forgot about sfw updated 4.0. I REALLY want it for the folders, to neaten things up. This meeting will be 7pm on Wednesday for me...could be a lot of good stuff there.

They definitely won't be talking about the PS+ price increase. Unless it's coming with some thing new we don't know about Sony knows better than to announce something that negative on stage.

Funny enough, the Original PS4 could have very well run Destiny at 60fps. So a destiny patch could potentially bring much more to the NEO if the devs are willing to go that route. Somehow I doubt they will, as they would not want to make a product so much different as opposed to what on their other platforms graphically and in feel/performance. It's all about Egalite.....to them..

There are instances where the current ps4 struggles to run destiny at even 20fps. I seriously doubt a smooth 60fps was doable.

Yeah, the price increase won't be mentioned. But if they're changing up something in regards to the ps+ offerings, they'll cover that (once again not mentioning at all that the price has increased).

I honestly hope they announce changes/improvements to PS+ offerings at or after the meeting. Something along the lines of (that can be done realistically):

2 PS4 - with at least 1 guaranteed AAA/retail (with an occasional extra PSVR game)
2 PS3
2 PSV (with occasionally 1 less game the times a PSVR game is offered)

(Just for reference, they've been offering 2 PS4, 2 PS3, 2 PSV games pretty consistently)

Now before some go, "but I like indies better than AAA," the indies offered aren't always good and can sometimes be quite bad. It's also pretty apparent from the PS+ threads and comments sections at various different sites that the general reactions to PS+ lineups are more positive when a AAA/retail title is offered even if it is considered to be a bad or mediocre game.

I think if these changes are made and announced, the negative reactions will die down. I miss the old PS+ days.
