Super Mario Run announced for iOS (Android later), Dec 2016, Screens/Info in OP

No doubt it will be good and Nintendo and others have made some quality runners in the past, but still... it's a runner. Somehow just kind of let down by that. It just feels kind of sad to see something like Mario use such a standard formula when coming to this new market. I guess it shouldn't shock me. There isn't much you can do with a platformer on a touch screen.

I have been waiting for Nintendo to return to it's glorious days (NES-GC) but I see now that this will never happen.

Wait, this is a premium game? Is DeNA not involved, then?

I thought DeNA was involved with all mainline Nintendo projects?

If you mean because it's (potentially?) not F2P (did they say either way?) I believe at one point Nintendo said they'd evaluate pricing structures on a per game basis. And then later I think they indicated all games would be F2P.

Edit: Ah, so they did confirm. "Game will be released at a set price. Don't have to worry about continuing to pay."

Half the people in this thread must not be watching the livestream.

It's not a traditional endless runner. The video shows Mario stopping, changing direction, climbing, etc. It's more of a simplified control scheme to make it work well for mobile.

Lol wasn't expecting this either while watching the stream.

Well, by the way this doesn't looks really big. But this means that Nintendo is definitively here on Apple devices.

It doesn't seem big, but the way apps go viral are insane. Nearly every single person has a phone and when they see or hear people talk about apps, it's only a button away to get in on the experience.

Says in-app purchases right there, what are people talking about?

Get that casual mobile phone money Nintendo! And use this income to further develop more meaty games for your main console. Using the mobile market with simpler games as a gateway is a good idea.

Nintendo have realized the synerfy effect of cross-platform presence. Note: They're not anywhere close to offering the familiar Nintendo games on mobile platforms. These are very deliberately very different experiences that build the brand.

As said above, they're putting small, catchy but limited experiences on phones to boost interest in their properties on their own hardware.

Exactly. This is smart. Go check out the Rayman games, or how SE Montreal distilled Hitman and Lara Croft to a style that worked well on touch

Yea, and it's not really an endless runner either, at least Rayman wasn't in my eyes. It had well designed levels that had high replayability to get perfect scores. I expect the same from this as it showed a level screen with different worlds and levels.
