Sony announces PS4 Pro, $399, November 10th

So only slightly bigger than the OG PS4.

Gotta make sure you can insolate that old jet engine og ps4
=P

Now let us hope that a 1yr release later for mS can bring us at least 6TF for $400..(with an actual semi decent cpu)

I am hoping for a subsidized 7TF console, but that's highly unlikely...so ill take at least 6TF with a semi decent cup plz

I really do not get the point about the prices. Slim and Neo (Neo 4ever, I hate the name "Pro") are so close together? Where is the sense behind that. No one will buy the Slim if you get a more powerfull console for little more money?

Ignoring UHD Blu Rays is a bad move if you ask me. Microsoft now has a better low-end line-up. And next year they will also have better high-end line up (If Scorpio really is that good). But at the end I do not care for UHD Blu Ray. Need a Player with 2 HDMI Outs anyway to get my HDMI 2.0 signal to the TV and DTS HD MA to the AVR (my AVR does not support HDR and so on).

The only advantage Sony has is that Neos releases one year before Scorpio. Maybe we will see a second version of PS4 Neo next year with a UHD drive.

All PS4 games will run at 1080p or higher on PS4 Pro. Not clear if this extends to existing games.

I'm surprised they went for 399$. Seems like there's little reason to get a 299$ standard model. I guess the price of the Pro is more understandable when it lacks 4K Bluray. I don't care about 4K BD but I never saw Sony not including it.

Now I just gotta figure out what to do with my current PS4 with a broken BD drive no one wants to buy. Not that the old PS4's are going to have much resale value to begin with.

Is there any benefit to buying the PS4 Pro if I dont own a 4k tv / monitor? This is going to be my first PS4, so lets say I own a 1440p gaming PC monitor; if i connect my ps4 PRO to it, will it look better than lets say the slim model?

I'm gonna explain it to you:

Pay $100 more and you will get:
- better performance
- better graphics/etc.

You don't want it? Don't buy it.

Clear?

I'm gonna explain it to you. They probably produced a tonne of these, they're gonna have to firesale them post initial launch. Plus with added bonus of almost certainly guaranteeing core gamer, higher ARPA accounts moving to Scorpio. Simples. This is the very definition of fuck up.

Their target audience are the people on this site. Look at the reaction.

This console will probably have a limited userbase, so the question remains why devs would develop special features for the Pro console.
That's the biggest question, will the next GTA have a Pro patch? I honestly doubt it, especially with games that are constantly updated. Seems more of a hassle than an asset.

And if you need to show Shadow of Mordor twice on a new console reveal, it's pretty clear that the third parties aren't that interested.

Well, at least for my report I can say that Sony mimicked Apple's conference in that both were pretty underwhelming. Though I will say I think I understand why Sony left out the UHD drive: keep the price at $400. It most likely would've been $500 if they went with it.

This is just bizarre. Make a console.mostly.aimed at making the most of 4K tv's and don't include A 4k bluray capable drive in the thing, the place where you'll get the highest quality 4K content. That is legitimately mental. I mean, I'm guessing the drive would cost maybe $5-10 more. Might be wrong. Main thing is if the XB1S can include one then Sony have no excuse. It's literally nonsensical and quite maddening. I'm just glad I won't have a 4K tv anytime soon... I still want the Pro, and I know it will benefit PSVR and just generally give better image quality in my games... But that ommission seems seriously short sighted..

I bought a 40" 4k monitor for development and PC gaming and I figured 4k bluray playback would be a lock for the PSNeo. I am baffled.

Why did they not specify this deal in great detail like they did with OG PS4? If the thing is that good then you'd want to shout it at my face? The whole thing was really short and left the watcher with more questions. Super bad way to unveil the thing.

It'll depend on the game. It'll detect the panel resolution and offer either higher resolution or better graphics effects. I'm not sure if they'll offer a solution for 1440p though, it's more likely just a 1080p/4K option so the PC monitor will probably just default to 1080p settings.

There will no doubt be frame rate improvements. They just don't demo well on stage because that involves admitting that you struggled to hit 30fps on current hardware.

I get they like to keep the same basic design when putting out new versions of the same console, but Sony seems to do it the worst. Every PS3 model had the basic "oval" rounded shape on all the consoles. Like, if they made the PS3 slim or super slim squared it would have totally destroyed marketing or something.

Then with the PS4, I don't get the damn obsession with the gaps in the siding of the console. For one, it's inconvenient for USB sticks, but I mean I get the idea of it. But for them to go so far with the loyalty to said design to just stack a layer on top of the slim design. I mean... c'mon. They couldn't have come up with a totally new fresh design to excite fans? Not that it's a huge deal, but it would have been cool.

It may take devs some time(3-6months)to patch an enhanced version of some games/future releasing ones??

So best case 3months? Worse case 6months?? If so, just wait to see if Xbox Scorpio flops?

Not sure if already posted, but they've put up official press releases:

PS4 Pro: http://www.sie.com/en/corporate/release/2016/160908c.html

Notably seems to confirm for HDTVs that games have to be 1080p on Pro (i.e. not sub-1080p). Smoother/higher framerates there too, although obviously that's going to vary from game to game.

New York City, September 7, 2016 – Sony Interactive Entertainment today announced the introduction of PlayStation®4 Pro (PS4®Pro) (CUH-7000 series) computer entertainment system, which delivers enhanced experiences through improved image processing capability and support for 4K quality images*1. PS4 Pro will be available on November 10, 2016, in Japan, North America and Europe at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of 44,980 yen, US$399, €399 and £349*2. This marks the first time ever in the history of PlayStation® that a higher-end system will be introduced in the middle of the platform’s lifecycle. PS4 Pro will complement the standard PS4, including the slimmer and lighter model also announced today.

「プレイステーション 4 Pro」(CUH-7000シリーズ)

By boosting the performance and capability of the system architecture including the CPU and GPU, PS4 Pro allows games to deliver graphics with far more detail and unprecedented visual precision. Users with 4K TVs will be able to enjoy all PS4 titles in higher quality, such as 4K quality*1 resolution and faster or more stable frame rates. In addition, PS4 Pro supports 4K video playback to deliver 4K streaming video services such as Netflix and YouTube.

HDTV owners will also be able to enjoy the enhanced gameplay experiences on PS4 Pro, as the system delivers 1080p resolution for all PS4 games and higher or more stable frame rates for some supported titles.

Furthermore, looking ahead to the future of imaging technology, all PS4 systems including PS4 Pro will support HDR imaging technology*3, which enables the reproduction of brightness and darkness while realizing a much wider range of colors. Users who own an HDR-compatible TV will be able to enjoy supported games and other entertainment content with visuals that are more realistic, strikingly vivid and truer to the way the human eye sees the real world.

“Today marks an exciting new milestone for PlayStation as we unveiled the high-end PS4 Pro in the midst of the console lifecycle, catering to gamers who are looking for a heightened PS4 experience," said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. "By accelerating the innovation cadence at PlayStation, we’re introducing choice in the marketplace, enabling gamers to choose the PS4 model that meets their needs. Ultimately, with titles that leverage the potential of PS4 Pro – plus PlayStation VR launching soon – all PS4 owners continue to benefit from having the best place to play.”

The form factor of the new system inherits the slanted body design of the previous models and the body design consists of three layers of blocks, symbolizing the powerful presence of the PS4 Pro and its solid feel, with mirror finished PlayStation family mark emblazoned at the center of its top surface. PS4 Pro also comes with an additional USB port in the rear in addition to two USB ports in the front for connecting additional devices including the PlayStation®VR virtual reality system.

The hard disk drive capacity of the PS4 Pro is 1TB*4 to accommodate more games, demos, download contents and favorite gameplay videos.

Every PS4 game title, including those already available and those launching in the future, will run on all PS4 including PS4 Pro. Furthermore, all the PS4 system employs the same user interface and shares the same online community for multiplayer gaming and network services.

SIE will announce details of PS4 Pro with its robust lineup of games from 3rd party developers and publishers as well as from SIE WWS towards its launch and will continue to further enhance the entire PlayStation ecosystem.

*1Outputted by graphic rendering or up-scaled.
*2Prices in North America and Japan exclude tax. Prices in Europe and UK include tax.
*3Supported through system software update.
*4The hard disk drive contains space that is available for users and space that is reserved for the system, therefore the actual space that is free for users is smaller than the total space stated in the document.

New Peripherals (controller, camera, vertical stand): http://www.sie.com/en/corporate/release/2016/160908d.html

The only new thing about the camera (thankfully), is that it's easier to adjust its angle.

With more pixels, 4K’s higher resolution delivers graphics that are sharper and have greater detail than ever imagined. HDR enables visuals to look much closer to the way your eyes see the real world.
Some developers are updating previously launched PS4 games to add PS4 Pro support, while other developers are building PS4 Pro support into upcoming releases. At launch, you’ll be able to download patches for games – such as Uncharted 4 – which are enhanced when playing on the new console. Future releases that will have PS4 Pro enhancements built-in include Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Days Gone.
However, even if you own an HDTV that does not support either 4K or HDR, PS4 Pro still provides a number of benefits. All games will run in 1080p resolution, and some will even run in a higher or more stable framerate. If you’re a gamer that wants to be at the forefront of innovation, PS4 Pro is for you.

I can see Sony selling alot of these just one word of mouth on how some games just play better on the Pro vs the original PS4. Think of a version of FFXV that didn't chug along 90% of the time and looked better. I'm sure that Horizon demo did a good job in selling some as well. I'm super tempted to pick one up day one, but I already have a PS4 and while $400 isn't that much, it's still $400.

I want it because I like shiny things and I do have a 4k HDR TV but it's in the lounge where I've never plugged a console in... maybe the psvr benefit justifies it?

guys I'm lost with this PRO thing. Why I should pay 100 buck more for a console that may or not work on a FULL HD TV?

What do you say? I'm not a "highly discriminating gamer" should I bought the Slim or the PRO...

Full HD is 1080p. What are you going on about?

Dat "reaction" was guaranteed for this. A lot of us were waiting for this. There are dozens out there that hate the "console .5" idea. DOZENS! It was just at matter of time.
