Forza Horizon 3 (PC/XB1, 2016) Confirmed; Set in Australia

Eh, the early play bonus is a pretty small aspect of that extra $40. You're getting a $20 VIP pass and a $20+ season pass with it, the early access is just an extra bonus.

It really should have been a pre-order bonus for every version. It is a simple way to get a lot more people to spend way more money just because they want to play early.

Don't preorders get a bunch of extra cars? That seems worth a lot more to me than a few days early.

Thinking bout it some more. Kind of lame that only $100 edition purchasers get the Friday release. GAF goes nuts over fucked up shit like this but I guess FH3 gets a pass for some reason.

I'm kind of jealous but not, it's just not worth $40 to play it early for me.

To me, that seems like a legit good preorder incentive for anyone that purchases the game. That's a great incentive but not for $40 extra.
Youre paying the $40 for the season pass of cars. The early access is a bonus. The very first Horizon season pass had the same cost and you didnt get it early.

I wouldn't say it's fucked up at all tbh. This has been happening with games for awhile now. I don't see anything wrong with it at all. It's not like people who are getting in early are getting an advantage over anyone else or anything in the game.

I think the Ultimate Edition comes with the special Angela White Lambo.

Dem headlights. I said damn.

OT: any idea when the EU reviews will go live?

It's mostly a profit thing, but I think you can make some reasonable arguments that a limited launch can actually help suss out any major server issues or other problems.
Given the climate of current game launches, I'm really glad things like this exist.

I won't lie though I'm part of the problem. This is the first ultimate edition of any game I've ever bought, and it's primarily so I have a free weekend with the game before moving to a new office at work.

Really? Games releasing early has been happening for a while? I buy like, every AAA game haven't came across it.

I'm sure there's a lot more examples, but those are off the top of my head

I noticed some more 'Horizon Edition' Cars around after todays livestream, does anybody know how we acquire these cars in-game?

They tend to be in the auto show available for purchase. Sometimes (or is it all the time?) they are part of the pre order bonus car pack or the VIP pass.

From my understanding, you get car packs for the other games and not this one with the standard edition...

From the MS store:
PURCHASE THIS OFFER BEFORE 9/27/16 AND RECEIVE 2 CAR PACKS AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE: Forza Horizon 2 Rockstar Car Pack (Xbox One) and Forza Motorsport 6 Meguiar's Car Pack (Xbox One).

Pretty much the same as sending me a photo of a nice car saying that I own it, but can't use it because it's in another city. As someone who have no interest at all in buying an Xbox that pre-order bonus is useless.

Let me know if I have misunderstood it though, but it sure looks like those car packs are not for my PC game I have pre-ordered.

hey dudes, it is possible to play on pc and have a different profile playing on your home Xbox at the same time in recore. the dream is alive again

Huh I'll have to check out my FH2.

Watch out for the Gamesradar review. If Justin Towell reviews it, expect as low as score as possible from him. He has a hard on for Sony racers and contempt for the series imo

I think it's more likely that these two packs from those two games will be back in FH3. (via pre-order)

That is my thought as well, probably are two packs for FH3, featuring cars from FH2 and FM6. Doesn't make sense to have pre-order bonus as things for other games...

They did give FH2 a 4/5 though. http://www.gamesradar.com/forza-horizon-2-review/

Different reviewer. But Justin has only reviewed GT6, Driveclub and Forza 6 AFAIK. Not really enough to say he's biased IMO but it's strange that you could give GT6 4.5/5 but Forza 6 3/5. I haven't played either but surely they're not that different in gameplay and quality.

Yeah and read his other pieces:

I am weary of him. His ridiculously low score for Forza and damage limitation for DC...each to their own but it reeks completely of bias to me.

Yeah, I was a little confused. There's an additional car pack, the All-Stars, which is for Horizon 3 and what I was referencing, but apparently it doesn't come with the standard edition. I never actually considered getting that version personally so I missed that little detail. Oops.

But you should redeem those DLC packs for other Forza games anyway because combined they will give 300 points for Forza Rewards. That's not insignificant for a few minutes of time. I posted links yesterday.

At the same time though, you know that they'll have some extra expansion down the road that you'll have to pay for separately. It's a bad habit that Turn 10 has gotten into, and someone really needs to check them on it.

Doubt that really is a T10 issue to be honest. Also FH expansions imho offer better content than FM expansions (Storm Island vs Porsche or Nascar).

Forgot about that. Both are different situations. One is a service and a perk for paying monthly for it. I don't really know what the WoW thing is. I wouldn't call it early sections. I'd call it a Demon Hunter preview. That's all it was afaik (have played insane amount of hours in the past couple months so...).

This forza thing is a one-off. Pay $40 you get the season pass or w/e they call it (you won't get the inevitable storm island or anything similar expansion though) + you get the game several days earlier than anyone else. Because you spent $40. Why is that an extra incentive?

I'm glad people will be testing it on PC before me but still jealous since I didn't pay $40 extra, I won't get the game early.

If every game that came out from here on out that had a season pass allowed you to play the game 5 days early there would be some shit going down on gaf.

90 Meta rating (as long as that Tom Chick guy's review doesnt count towards the Meta rating).

If this cant break the 90 barrier then I dont think any racing game ever will.

In Horizon 3's defense they do correctly call it a car pass rather than a more open-ended season pass, which is something a lot of developers do and is definitely misleading.

But outside of that deceptive situation, where a season pass doesn't cover everything released that season, I'm not sure if I really see a problem. Isn't it possible in many cases that post-season content was never necessarily planned for when the pass was initially sold? Is continued additional, optional game support really a big problem? Serious question, what's the issue here if Turn 10 decides to release additional, post-pass content, or Playground releases Rally Storm Island 4 as a separate purchase? I don't think I understand.

I'd also wager things like the Porsche expansions simply aren't even allowed (by EA, I think?) to be part of a season pass. It's presumably a requirement that they need to be a separate thing.

That Porsche expansion was also kind of shit.

That was kinda my point.

I'll be honest, I am getting a little tired with all the DLC, expansions and other added BS, I get that some people like it, and that the developers need to find alternative revenue streams, but there is no way I am (again) paying £80 for a game, no matter what DLC, season pass, it contains.

Take FM6 and FH2, I (stupidly) paid for the Ultimate edition of both, would the game have been worse for me if I had gotten the standard edition?, no.

So they can keep all their early access, season pass and car pass nonsense, I pay half the price and have exactly the same amount of fun out of it.

Buying SG Gifts cards from the SG ms store website, for paypal it says to enter Billing address for "Country/region: Singapore" ehhh am I dong this right?

Sadly nowadays racing games automatically means a 2-5 point meta deduction. I mean even Mario Kart 8 can't break 90.

Google a random singapore address, they won't check.

Would you rather have a model where all cars added (and map/track expansions) were free but all cars had to be obtained through packs or system like that w/microtransactions?

Not a dig, I was just asked this question yesterday about Forza and thought it might be an interesting discussion point since no racing game has really done it. I prefer it the way it is and it's probably extremely unlikely they'd ever do it, but since a lot of games are adopting this model lately.. who knows.

Eh I bought the ultimate edition just for the early access. Car pass is pretty pointless for me and VIP is even more useless. I must be part of the problem.

I honestly don't know.

I know the reality of it all, and that we don't want the base price of a product to increase, so the increased development costs need to be recouped elsewhere, but I still don't like it, the ultimate editions early access thing was a very, very slick move, even at 'only' 4 days, they know just how impatient a lot of gamers are.

All I do know is that my enjoyment of the game won't be more if I pay double for the ultimate edition, and surely that's the most important thing?
