Forza Horizon 3: Review Thread

2/5 from our reviewer, says it feels like Playground Games is getting bored of making racing games

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/forza-hori...s-drifts-off-wheel-xboxs-latest-racer-1582149

Having read this review, I can't tell if the reviewer played the actual game or just the demo.

quick question: is this forza horizon more offroad, taking a different approach? is it different than horizon 2? I have not played horizon 2 yet (I loved the first one though).

FH2 went offroad, which is why it was amazing. So many great offroad races. The Storm Island expansion took that to the next level.

FH3 also has offroad.

Lookin good! Feeling good about buying the ultimate edition of this now! I really hope the PC version isn't a mess.

OK, who from PG fucked that guy's girlfriend?

I wouldn't go that far, but after reading his review he should have given it a 3/5 based off his opinions. I mean he basically says they make it too easy and accessible? Really? That's a terrible thing? I played only the demo and thought it was leaps and bounds better than Forza Horizon 2. I thought Forza Horizon 1 was a better game than 2. After playing the demo for 3 I feel it's more like 1 and brings more fun back to it.
Oh well, to each his own, assuming his opinion is HIS opinion and not another's or done for shock value and clicks.

90 on both metacritic and opencritic, definitely deserved it from what I've played. Congrats Microsoft for your first 90 game on this gen ; )

Now hope it'll be the same for Gears 4.
Looking good right now. But around 60 review scores are still missing. So let's wait a few days.

i guess i can kinda see the point of the ibtimes reviewer, sorta.

ive always thought that was a strength of the series though. he seems to find it too easy to get good stuff but coming from halo 5 waiting until level 68 to get a goddamn dmr i always loved how horizon throws new toys at you constantly, and GOOD ones, to give you more things to do in your sandbox. You arent waiting until 50 hours in to get an amazing car. usually your choice is "which amazing top level car do i want to use THIS time" in regards to difficulty its about as customizable as you can get, make it a breeze to win every race or make it nail-biting hard and tense.

ive loved this series the most because of just how much it gets out of your way. where most racing games say "here is your linear path of progression" horizon shows up with a case of beer and says WHATDDAYAWANNA DO!?

i love how weird these threads get when there's one bad score.
Unfortunately one trash score like that mixed it with otherwise amazing scores can really tank its metacritic. Not like I really give a crap about metacritic but if that score keeps it an 89 instead of a 90 then that's something worth mentioning

Not going to jump on his case, but in a game with as many modes and options as Horizon, can't you tailor it to your liking?

If you don't think the game offers up much challenge, up the difficulty, remove all the assists (including the optional rewind feature that I've seen reviewers have a problem with before), use the blueprint feature to edit the events or put your focus squarely on rivals mode.

Yeah, after reading through it twice I'm not sure I just don't understand where this reviewer is coming from. I thought he was looking for more precision and challenge, but he also knocks having to drive precisely through checkpoints. (?) Ok.

Back in the day, MS had the racing genre covered with Forza (Sim Circuit), PGR (arcade Circuit) and Rallisport (Rally, off road). Somehow they've almost have melded all of that in one title being on both Xbox One and PC platform with it's wheel support. Excellent work Playground Games, Turn 10, and MS.

The ib times review is interesting. While I think they are being incredibly hyperbolic, there seems to be a similar criticism for horizon 3 as I had for horizon 2.

It felt more like like a Gumball3000 simulator than a racing game.

I'm sure for 95% of people this will not be a problem, but as I've said before in forza threads, there is a distinct lack of satisfaction when you win a race. It's almost as if the racing is just part of the story, and the objective is actually to enjoy the festival.

I'm still going to get horizon 3 and accept it for what it is, but I'm glad I'm not the only person to notice this.
I think that is actually a big part of the Horizon series, and I feel it's a reason why I get a PGR vibe from it. Racing is obviously a big part of the game, but just getting to your destination and how and where you drive are big parts of the game.

It's fine to not prefer the less focused racing aspects of the series, but I think knocking a game so significantly simply because it isn't like a different game (that it isn't trying to be) is what causes it to raise eyebrows.

Does any review talk about the Force-Feedback?? ...I'll have to wait for VVV's and ISRTV's, right?

I didn't discuss it in detail but I found it to be very well done and I didn't have to dial it much. The move from road to rally roads and off road is insane and as someone who has taken vehicles on and off road it felt pretty accurate.

Really enjoying your reviews, very informative. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Rasko

But does it have a DiRT mode? That might help.

IBT, is that "I Be Trollin" or "International Business Times"

Seriously though, if someone didn't like the game much then that's fair.

I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying at all and not saying it's a particularly well written review. Just seemed some people couldn't understand his personal problems with the game so I was just pointing out what they seemed to be to me, from reading his review.

He seems more tired of the franchise than anything, like he was bored, "three games in four years" etc etc. I can relate to that a bit as I feel a little similar towards MS but he didn't seem very keen to express any positives in detail, "it looks nice" oh..ok then. Ha ha.

Progression towards the end goal, or just in general?

Sorry, I should have elaborated. I meant in general, really. I quite liked how you had very distinct streams of events to play through on Horizon, which then unlocked new sets of events.

Horizon 2 felt more like NFS: Most Wanted, in that you were free to pick events. I prefer a bit more focus and context in open world driving games I think.

Man, at this point it would be so disappointed if the PC version ends up being a mess. These reviews are glowing.

Looks like MS first 90+ MC title this gen, congrats. I am not into racing games, but it looks gorgeous.

I wasn't either. I like Mario Kart. Not a fan of the sim racers and arcade-style racing games were mainly a rental for me. Horizon 2 was absolutely amazing though.

Glad this is getting great scores. Demo was excellent. Will definitely pick up the full game.

Had to boot up the game to take a few screenshots.

Forza Horizon 3 is wildly flexible. If you feel the handling is too arcadey, and it is by default because it assumes a player is average, you can change it.

Here's the difficulty settings page. You can change those feature willy nilly if you want. The game even says "Hey, you're winning all the time, Can we make it harder for you?"

Other options:

There's also a "Pro" level. Or you can go custom.

Yes, essentially this. Now I'm not a sim racer fan, but I certainly think you can get Forza Horizon 3 to that point with some tweaking.

Thanks, but have you played the FH3 demo? How does it compare? Is it different?
I thought it was the worst FFB on road-surface, I have ever felt in any racing game. Is it different from the demo? (btw. I liked FH2's FFB, and even FH1's FFB is ok)
A moderator on ForzaMotorsport.net said that something was still off in the demo build, so I was hoping it's better in the release version.

Thank you kind sir. Are there any courses on Australian? Do you know if Rosetta stone offers it?

Is the game in Australian? If so, will it be dubbed or subbed?

I'm from England, do due to a childhood flooded with the likes of Home & Away, Neighbours, Dot and the Kangeroo... etc... I am fluent in Antipodean

Huh?
No I am reviewer. I have played the game. I didn't mess much with the demo sorry.
And I can't say it was even close to the worst. I can't even say it was in the same stratosphere. Then again every time I discuss racing wheels with someone whatever game someone likes someone else thinks is THE WORST and someone else thinks is THE BEST.
I don't see the demo and the main game being different though.

Is there anyway to buy a early access code once we got the game or to upgrade after buying the standard?

Can't control THE HYPE.
