Giant Bomb PSVR stream | It's always Summer in PlayStation VR Nation

lol @ at all the people flaming the GB staff in the review thread because of their less than stellar impressions.

Definitely been a VR optimist all this time, but feeling underwhelmed especially by the impressions of the staff. Was planning on going to a midnight launch next week, now not so sure. Definitely trust all the dude's impressions more than other personalities in the industry

What's funny is that they played fuck tons of hours of VIVE and Oculus so...

Ah, OK then. Not watching the stream so just trying to judge by people's comments and screencaps.

For people thinking Jeff's distance from the camera was an outlier.

He bends down to look at his waist, You can literally see it on the GIF you have in your post. The game looks down at the waist as well.
I am not sure how this is considered a tracking issue?

Is it not very immersive since you have a floating belt with no body? Sure.
But it appears to be tracking the movement to me.

I thought it should adjust? It looks like it was having problems adjusting well and then it worked? My point was that it seems inconsistent overall.

Every time I have watched a giant bomb stream and Geoff is the player I always come away with a negative opinion of the product (even if later I couldn't have disagreed with him more, such as Driveclub) yet when one of the others is playing I very rarely come away with a negative opinion.

Biggest problem with all of VR for me is that no company seems willing to invest significant money into software

I think the developers are making due with what they have. PC hardware though expensive still has to deal with a standard. A price and a hardware standard that the mass market barely meets, and a tech standard that has yet to be established.

As for PSVR, it's probably the best they can do right now for 400 dollars.

Basically, compromises all around.

VR is inherently going to have more variables to consider and more things that can go wrong than traditional gaming. Environment, lighting, spacing, tracking, movement, controls, you name it. VR as a whole right now just isn't ready.

The good thing is everyone involved seems to be taking a very long-term approach to this.

I mean I love Jeff but he has a real long history of having terrible taste in games. I don't think that carries over to "this hardware doesn't work very well" though.

Geoff Keighley is kind of a downer.

Really interesting seeing the mixed reaction on the tracking.

Maybe once it's out in the wild people will figure out the best conditions. It doesn't make sense that she people have good experiences (and they admit they have good experiences at trade shows) and others don't if it's not environmental factors having an influence.

I'm skeptical, but somewhat optimistic that people will "figure out" a checklist to make sure tracking is accurate as trade shows, or as others are experiencing.

I'd say that's because Jeff generally has a pessimistic take on games. I find it a useful contrast to the pre-release optimism of most game critics.

So Brad saying it was so broken when playing at home he didnt want to use it anymore is all good in your book?

Both Brad and Jeff had the same issues at home.
It's kind of shitty to say, but I can't really trust GB when it comes to PlayStation.

They're always running ads for Xbox games on their site/channel and they're always seemingly sarcastic or unenthusiastic when about PlayStation stuff from what I've noticed.

Phil Spencer was Jeff's best man at his wedding, so you don't even need to look into it that far, dude.

Haha.

This thread is great for extending my ignore list.

I dunno, seems alright, could maybe use a little polishing that will come in time, but it seems like a lot of the issues probably come down to software, while the hardware itself seems more or less solid.

I had a Rift for a few months and then sold it, not looking to jump into another headset anytime soon, but I'm interested to see what kind of stuff comes out of this new push for VR over the next few years.

I was watching their Forza 3 quick look and it sounded like marketing PR talk. I was thinking 'if this was a PS game they'd be bitching about it being 30fps and saying they'd play the PC version'

Haha.

Keep Xatin', won't miss ya

Yep, that's why they all use PS4s almost exclusively as their consoles of choice. You got it, dude.

When lacking anything else to say, ad hominem is the way to go.

Graphically in general, none of the software looks great on screen to me. But it's hard for me to say how it would look in the headset.

On screen is worse than on headset, just try it yourself! Not that the graphic is like on PS4 games out now.

That said... If I didn't tryed it but only saw this stream probably I would not have preordered or buyed the PSVR...

I had not at all these tracking problem, and all else...

Hope I won't have these in my home too.

So far what I'm seeing is that there are tracking issues, as evidence by batman waist.

Yeah, Vive style tracking is the direction the medium will be going long term. Dumb lighthouses and tracking in the headset. Maybe the lighthouses won't be needed with better sensors in the future but camera based tracking is just simply inferior.

They already talked about having the same issues regardless of the distance. Brad even mentioned he physically measured the distance in his house after having a ton of issues.

Well yeah, as much as I like Jeff, his ties to Phil Spencer and MS does obviously influence him.

I don't think anyone can deny what you're saying hand on heart.

That hot Quantum Break 2/5 tho!

Good god.

Its a conspiracy! Adam Boyes was in on it to! Him Jeff and Dave Lang are secretly trying to take down Sony!
