PSVR Review Thread

They just said they did the same thing within 5 feet at some and it's the same thing as 8 on stream.

I'd like to see that on stream. They should pop up the demo menu again now they are sat closer. The info the Eurogamer guy gave - that he had all the same issues, had replacement hardware, then it fixed them, suggests Sony might have fucked up massively with these preview units.

I would honestly get this if it worked on PC as well. But for me it is too early to think of investing in VR on console. Will be waiting to see how Scorpio handles VR before I consider buying a VR headset for console use. The reviews do seem to be what I was expecting.

My opinion might change tomorrow when I get to have a go on the headset.

Looks pretty cool, but $800 is a lot of money to invest in something that might go the way of PS move, Kinect, or any gaming peripheral that has some support at the start, but quickly died away in a few short months. Will take a wait and see approach to PSVR.

Wait it was actually a staff member from Eurogamer who gave this comment?

The head tracking works pretty well, which is what matters here.

If you come expecting a Room Scale experience similar to Vive, obviously that's not what you get here.

It's made for being sit. When you start walking, crouching and so on, yes of course you'll get limb tracking limitations pretty soon especially using DS4 instead of PS Move. That's what the few complains are talking about but that's not what PSVR is made for.

It's not a big problem, immersion relies on correct head tracking - which we have here - and most people want to sit when playing their games anyway. I know I do when I come back from work.

You can make great VR games that way (Driveclub, Battlezone, Rigs...)

Then you can buy a Vive and get a full immersion with Room Scale, but it's a lot more expensive and you have to get up and walk constantly.

I'd like to buy a Vive for my 1070 PC on top of my PSVR but I think in Europe it's something like €1200, that's just not worth it in my opinion. At €400 PSVR is a good entry point.

Head tracking is of course the most obvious aspect of immersion, but I can't imagine going back to a VR system where I can't have my hands completely tracked when I turn around, crouch or crawl. It's absolutely the direction VR will go, and while I don't think you can fault Sony for not implementing that given its technically impossible without some relatively annoying setup not suited for a super user friendly device, I also don't think it's fair to understate just how much more immersive it makes VR.

Sounds like if you weren't already sold on this thing it's best to pass on it, at least for now. Can't wait to see how it sells.

VR can only get better. I bet the 2nd gen of PSVR will use better motion controllers and lighthouse tracking too. If someone is on the fence, they can always wait.

Well now on the GB stream there might be a batch of faulty headsets. That's not good.

Yep, that'd be a damn shame, especially since they're probably the only ones doing the biggest livestream.

I ended up cancelling my pre order. -.- I just couldn't justify the price when the Pro is just around the corner as well as several games coming out soon. If I had a disposable income then I'd be all in. It was a hard decision :/

If that was the case we would be hearing it much more I think.

Yea, I'd love to get both, especially since VR on Pro would be ace.

I'll have to save that VR purchase for later; can't afford both right now.

VR is so toxic on here, I genuinely thought people on GAF would be more open minded. GB shit on the rift and vive with their amazing streams and everyone seems to now take their PSVR stream as gospel...

It would be pretty funny if that's true after the fanboy backlash they got in this thread

They were pretty positive on the Vive though

Has there been any talk in the reviews of wearing the headset with glasses?

Dan on the GB site just had to take off his glasses because he said the gap they were causing from the screen was letting in too much light from the bottom of the head set.

It's the best one out of all them. The worst is the Rift since most specs won't fit inside the thing. The Vive is bigger inside so it can fit but it'll push your glasses in.

The PSVR works because it's not strapped to your face, it's just sitting in front of it.

In Jim Sterling video you can see that he wears it with the glasses on.

And Dave from Videogamer said that while he doesn't wear glasses, the people with whom he talked about said it was comfortable to use it with them on.

Thanks.

The biggest problem to me, and the reason I thought they'd upgrade the Move controllers, is that it's silly they don't have analog sticks and I know that if you try on purpose to move them as rapidly as you can it was possible to throw them off with a bit of lag but otherwise they were responsive and 1:1, atleast with the old PS3 camera, no idea with the PS4 one which is a better camera.

It could probably be even better, but "bad fit" seems kinda crazy.

with four miniscule face buttons that are almost pointless for anything but menu selections

This is kinda bullshit though, atleast as someone who played stuff like Sorcery which was an action game that used the four little buttons. Bigger ones might be easier but they weren't pointless.

RE: Giant Bomb's set-up

They literally got a measuring tape out on stream to measure their distances.
They dimmed the lights.
They sat around 5ft away from TVs at home, away from the studio, in different light environments.

They've had issues across the board.

Did we watch the same streams? They were okay on the Vive. It's the games with the price they doubt most of the time really.

I'm fairly in tune with Colin from PSILY with game preferences, he loves it, says it's a shift and potential to gaming as big as the analog stick. Crazy potential, and it seems based on IGN reviews they don't even have the best launch games yet. I'm pretty excited.

Superhypercube
Rez
Thumper
Superstardust

Those are my first games I'll buy, maybe Batman.

Did they recalibrate after all the changes they've made?

If so, then they should try getting some replacement headsets.

Richard from Digital Foundry thinks the PS VR HMD is the best from a comfort level ("in a class above"), especially with glasses.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like it's generally OK.

Well TBF I think we might be - one outlet says their guy spent 12 hours in the headset and no mention of these drifty tracking problems, yet GB looks like they are under the influence of mind-altering substances with constant in and out wobble. Eurogamer staffer claims quoted on stream suggest their initial unit was a dud. A number of the reviews suggest pretty extreme tracking concerns, others barely a mention.

Seeing Colin so giddy over this and so angry over pro is so weird lol. You'd think he'd like both because they compliment each other but maybe he sees psvr as more of a innovation than he does ps4 pro(which I mean it is I suppose)

Having used it in many environments along with at trade shows, and in all honestly it is not that bad for tracking. It is no where near Vive level, but for standard games it is just fine. i have no idea what is going on with the GB stream. Never seen it that bad!

Any reviews mention cinema mode?
Not much to go on
Sony has managed to marry the ease of use of a console with VR for the first time, and that plays a part in my decision to choose between them when I only have a few free snippets of time to spare. It also sports a "cinematic mode" that lets you browse your menus and play anything in 2D, but it's not ideal if you have a larger television.

I really wonder sometimes how the PS4 Pro will affect some of the complaints made regarding PSVR. Will the prospect of a higher frame rate and super sampling make a big enough difference?

Off-topic but my condolences.
Lol...well, he doesn't like fighters, which I love, but I'm generally a gameplay first kinda gamer but still very much care about story and narrative, so I don't fit into the Nintendo camp well either as most Mario games I find annoying. Like Colin I also used to be a huge Nintendo fan and then just stopped. I dunno, but last like 10 games he really recommended I loved 8 of em...

Meh...

VR is awesome though, that's what's important. Can't wait to try out Rez and Thumper.

Also I think Greg and Colin will love Pro as it'll make games look more crisp in VR, they just don't know it yet.

They earn their living playing games, and they don't know how to properly setup a move controller. Really? C'mon

Hmmm, actually since they did that, I've not noticed any of the original issues manifest in their play. Seeing the demo disc menu once again and rotating the controller and holing everything still to confirm now would be incredibly handy at this point.

Well he did just admit to only taking his move out of the plastic just recently for PSVR, when he originally purchased it for ps3 way back when. Said it charged up fine!
