Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
So it's just a tablet then?

When you put it like that...lol.

Would be nice to see some tablet functionality then. I just realized the mobile games aspect...

A souped up, modifiable tablet might be an accurate description.

Can't watch the trailer since I'm at work but is it a console/handheld hybrid like rumored? If so I'm in
Exactly so...docking station and then turns into a portable machine with small controllers you can detach for MP sessions, or to use with two hands and set the screen up like a tablet.

To anyone complaining about the name, its 100% better than the Wii & Wii U. They could have called it the Wii Switch like cmon its an okay name.

Ok, after rewetting it, overall thoughts:

+ the technology seems incredible and the idea/concept behind the console is great.
+ graphics seem good enough, not groundbreaking for Nintendo but at least an improvement over Wii U.
+ the name is great, finally. Not confusing.
+ New Mario looks great.
+ 3rd party support SEEMS to be there.

- the console and the controllers are so ugly. whyyyy.
- those tiny controllers look uncomfortable as fuck. do not want.
- do something different with Mario Kart please (as in Double Dash), unless thats an improved port from 8, I will be disappointed.

I know my kids will want this...this will be hyuge amongst the younger sector.

IF...if if if if it allowed for side loading (or direct loading though a real app store like google play) of mobile apps, it would be amazing. If the 'tablet', can function as a 'normal freaking tablet', its a billion seller.

Design of the system is a bit weak. I honestly thought it was a joke. Looks like an off-brand knockoff.

Still very excited for the games and will be the first Nintendo console I pick up since the Wii.

Looks like what the Wii U should have been.

Cautiously optimistic because it could be a poorly executed gimmick, but the ideal of being able to bring the console handheld really easily sounds amazing. Reality for me is that would mostly mean gaming in bed, but if I did travel I could bring it.

Slightly worried that the constant attaching and un-attaching of the controller bits to the screen unit will get jammed or break

I don't see the problem with the name. Switch is easy to say, easy to remember, and easy to relate to with regards to how they want to market the console to the masses.

Decently priced and when we know the spec will decide if I grab one for BotW or I stick with my WiiU. Kinda wish they'd be a non hybrid version as it's not for me but for people that are on the move a lot I guess it's nice for them.

the gameplay controller sold me. (Living room player)

the portable aspect of playing in the bathroom as a bonus.

I will be buying this Nintendo console instead of buying a 4K PS4 when I already own a PS4

So if I take this thing on the bus for my commute, my son can't play when he gets home from school? I'm already getting a bit nostalgic for when portable and consoles where divided. I know that I could potentially buy two, but do you really trust Nintendo to make that work conveniently?

IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD
EVEN THE DESIGN
(The detachable controllers aren't that bad either)
It has a pro controller and all
I needed this in my life.
Simple and effective name
Great looking graphics from what I can see too... Aaaaa

Outside of the tablet feeling really cheap, I can't think of too many concerns which is rare lol

I'm assuming the tablet screen is literally just a screen with no touch controls? That's going to be a bit off putting for some, while not shown I hope it has a touch screen for certain types of games.

I do most of my gaming on a handheld (jxd s192) via streaming - becomes more difficult to do when out and about. I see where they're going with this - If I can do console-grade gaming in my lunch hour or on the train then just plug in when I get home then I'm all for it.

Pretty much confirmed what I was expecting, an underpowered device by today's standard. Wouldn't be surprised to find it just a bit more powerful than a WiiU.

How do you get that from the trailer?

Design of the system is a bit weak. I honestly thought it was a joke. Looks like an off-brand knockoff.

Still very excited for the games and will be the first Nintendo console I pick up since the Wii.

No it doesn't.

The handheld is sexy as fuck. Such a huge departure from the 3DS/Wii U era too, think about it

No IR remote
No touchscreen (from what is shown)
No Dual screen
No Gyro (from what is shown)

Just a pure hardcore gaming handheld ala Vita but much more powerful.

Can you believe it?

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
I'm intrigued...

Wanna see some direct feed videos. Price is probably going to be the biggest deciding factor for me though.

does it have a back camera? if not, missed Pokemon opportunity.

I like a lot of things about this. the multi tiny controller scenario, meh, I assume that's more for Japan.

boy I hope their bluetooth stack is up to having a few dozen controllers in range when these show up en masse to PAX and the like.

pretty solid effort though, gotta say, I am intrigued for sure.

This is where I'm at. I guess I was expecting a little more, or some kind of hook we were not anticipating. This looks like a sleeker, 4 years later evolution of the Wii U concept...which is nice for some I guess (hell I'll probably buy it), but the Wii U failed. I guess the million dollar question for Nintendo is "did the Wii U fail because it was underpowered, or because people couldn't take it on the go with them, or did the Wii U fail because the core concept was just not something people were into?" If it's the latter, this thing is in trouble.

Price will be key, it absolutely cannot be more than $299, and honestly even that is a stretch. If this thing really is the replacement not just for their home console but also their handheld business, this is uncharted territory for them and they are banking a lot on an unproven concept. I guess it ultimately comes down to their own internal expectations. Maybe they figure they will consolidate their two markets (as well as their game development, saving them a ton of resources), sell this thing to the core 20+ million fans and make up the difference by expanding into other areas (movie and tv, theme parks, products like the NES mini) and essentially the Switch (man that's a dumb name) will be the start of their pivot.

Hopefully we'll get a good 3D pokemon for it! No excuses now Gamefreak...

That screen looks small, I'm using an 8 inch tablet and it's PERFECT for gaming.
If they offer a premium bigger sized model, I don't mind paying more for that..

I feel this console has a real unique trait unlike the PS4 and XBox One. If you are a PC gamer, you might feel that those consoles are just alternatives to PC. But til now you don't have a mobile that can play console level quality games!
As a PC gamer, I want to get this.

not pictured: all the wires coming out of an empty dock. that will change the aesthetic a lot.

Love the name. It's really like this thing was designed for me. I play mostly handheld stuff because I'm on the go a lot, but I love console experiences, too. Super excited to get one of these.

So I want this definitely, as well as the ps pro. But I just wanted to commend nintendo on keeping it short and simple. Much better showing of the new console than sony with their pro conference.

Hmmm... I might get it. Still uncerntain yet.

- I dislike like the name lol (but who cares about the name).
- The specs will prob be very weak compare to the PS4 Pro. It might even be weaker than the OG PS4 due to the size of the console. This is a big minus if its true.
- Need to know what exclusive game there will be.
- Dislike the controllers. Looks ugly.
- The handheld screen looks nice a big :)

I liked the 3ds and Wii U so yeah I will probably buy this thing if the price is right. Hardware looks great IMO.

Seems pretty cool. Definitely need more details, but I'm intrigued. Being able to play your game on the TV or handheld is what's most appealing to me. I'm also incredibly glad that they decided to put the right stick under the buttons. I hate the stick above the buttons like on the WiiU. I do think think taking the controls off the portable screen is something I'll never do though. The pro controller will be how I'd play with the TV.
