Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
This... is not what I wanted. I mean... I guess I can applaud them for never doing things like everyone else.

I'll buy it because why not, and I'll love it more than life if they give me my nintendo classics, but I don't think this is the type of system that is going to attract third party devs like the good ol' days.

What do you do with that huge thing when you're traveling around? Will there be an official case of some sort? How do you protect the screen?

I dunno. People at school always have their ipads. Doesn't seem that difficult.

Also, put a Hori protector on the screen.

I'm so disappointed. I'm 38 years old and I have no desire for a handheld console.

Sony and MS and getting to 4K and VR and Nintendo is stuck on barely better than Wii U graphics at 720p because they think people will still buy a handheld on 2017.

I don't get it.

If you're 38 and hung up about graphics you're doing it wrong. That said, WiiU, underpowered as it was, offered some beautiful visuals and incredible art styles.

This will be at the very least more powerful than that, and fully portable.

Also, the demographics for the 3DS is a bit on the older end than you would think. Adults enjoy Nintendo portables, not necessarily to leave he house with, but so we aren't tied to the television at all times, also because the games on 3DS (Games that will no doubt have Switch entrants) are awesome.

The One S and PS4Pro aren't 4K gaming machines. They'll get closer to the 1080p 60 fps mark, but actual, smooth 4K gaming isn't happening on consoles for a long time. They do 4K video playback really hard tho! But based on what we know, the Switch will support 4K output as well for video output.

VR is a cumbersome and very solitary gaming experience, and one that comes at an enormous cost. Did you really expect Nintendo to drop local multi and coop for an overpriced way to put yourself in sensory solitary confinement?

  • Portable controllers that look EXTREMELY uncomfortable.
  • Skyrim, a game released 2011.
  • A stand that even the trailer shows how wobbly it is.

No thanks!

I usually carry this thing on my back called a "back-pack". Has room for all kinds of neat shit, and tends to carry, at a minimum, my work laptop, portable battery charger, a water bottle, and my mobile hotspot.

Man, people REALLY want to nitpick.

Backpack essentially.

I think the problem with Vita size is it wouldn't have been able to be sufficiently powerful to also act as a home console. We don't have specs yet, but the dock, venting port, and overall form factor leads me to believe this will be a pretty powerful system.

It's not unthinkable that they could release a smaller form factor version for added portability once the 3DS is fully phased out.

That's a good point. In that case I think going for power was the right move.

This is probably the biggest thing that could have saved or broke this company.

They absolutely nailed it. Perfect hardware appearance and looks to have enough firepower. I'm amazed. Day one.

If by "enough" you mean the same as Wii U. Because this doesn't really look any more powerful from what we've seen here (although I guess it's likely that it could push Wii U-level games at 1080p instead of 720p). Now, for a handheld that's not bad at all, of course. But for a home console in 2017? Yeah. But of course, this isn't really a home console, it's a dockable handheld. Which seems to be driving some people wild. It's not what I wanted (but what I knew was coming). The dream was something at least approaching PS4 (original) levels to power a version of BotW that's clearly an upgrade over the Wii U version, but this is not that at all. And I didn't expect it to be. I just hoped to be proven wrong. Oh well!

A little late to the party: I'm impressed. Flawless presentation. Switch looks really fun and intuitive to use. Well done, Nintendo!

THIS aspect is what will make the console a success.
It's what i was telling i would have done.

Let people play local multi on the go, with games that were only online before.
Now Nintendo, move your old ass and go convince big community game devs to port their games (overwatch, destiny...)

There is a market here.

The 2 mini pads idea would have potential but it just seems horrible..

Yeah but then you can't play them on the go, there's only 1 screen in that case.

You hold it vertically and split the screen horizontally. Two parts, two screens. This is how it works with DS emulators on phones. No reason it can't work here unless the screen doesn't respond to touch.

Yes! This is extremely exciting to me! :)

I'm betting price will be

249-299- Screen and attachments for controls

349-399- Full bundle including docking station

Pro Controllers and additional controllers sold separately between 39.99 and 59.99

Games Obvi 59.99

Let's see how this plays out

That looks great! Pretty sure I am getting one. Depending on games and price of course but pretty perfect for me. Travel quite a lot. Want something portable but at home I never touch a portable device so just dock it. Well done Nintendo!

I don't hate it but I don't know.

I will probably get this thing day 1 pending price/SKUs.

The playing on a plane... over a wireless signal (from the controllers) is that allowed?

Like in my life I don't think I will ever get an invite to a party across the rooftops, and be like yeah I should bring my Mario single player experience there. It's fine to show in the video, but in real life, no, I won't do that.

Maybe it was mishandled but it seemed like they were bringing a non-motion controller, non-GamePad like configuration of the controller/platform, to a Splatoon tournament. This is pretty weird.

Also most of the gameplay was running at like N64 or worse frame rates at least from what I saw.

If it was on preorder today from Amazon I would today for sure, but I do want to know a bit more before investing at launch day pricing.

The portable is way too big imo something vita sized would have made more sense. If it's under $300 I'll still buy it day 1 though.

That's what I'm thinking. But I don't see the base unit going below $300.

Nope, that console(?) is nothing for me.
Which is sad, because I love Zelda, Smash Bros and Xenoblade yet not one console after the Gamecube did appeal to me. I bought a Wii, disliked it's Wii Remote very much and I only played on the Classic Controller. I didn't buy a WiiU und I won't buy a Switch.
I wished Nintendo would stop trying to be innovative and special. I just want to play Zelda on my TV, with a normal controller and up to date graphics. I hope I'm not tarred and feathered for this post, sorry. >__<

Not seeing how this has mass appeal. A mobile device but a home console with a mobile GPU in an oversized portal device. They might as well just put their library on IPhone/Ipads.

As an older gamer (42) this is what I've dreamed of for years. I like Console/PC titles but hate being tethered to one spot in the house to play them at all times. Sometimes I'm good on the game room couch, sometimes I wish I could play in a different room. Switch makes that possible.

I'm glad to see that list of partners. Here's hoping Nintendo has learned lessons, and makes it easier to work with them.

Things are slow right now, and details are yet to come, but from what I've seen, just now, I like the look of it. I'm keen to learn more, and I'm not sold yet, but I'm optimistic. I think once we (or I, if I've missed it) get a glimpse at what's under the hood, I'll be closer to making a purchasing decision.

I can't say I really want the handheld side of things...on the plus side I suppose you'll be able to use it for Mario Maker level creation and then dock to play the levels on tv.

I feel like there's no reason for this to be incompatible with a lot of Wii/Wii U controllers besides forcing a clean break from the Wii branding and wanting people to have to invest in new accessories.

At the very least there doesn't seem to be a sensor bar which I'm leaning toward interpreting as meaning there won't be any sort of Wii BC.
