There is two things I want out of this venture from Nintendo :

1 - I want the japan population to start caring about videogames again.
2 - I want the golden years of JRPG to be back.

Please Nintendo, you once saved videogames. Do it again !

Guys what exactly is this part?

turns your two detachable joycon parts into a usable controller when the switch is docked

pretty neat, though looks super uncomfortable. I can't see myself ever playing this without the pro controller, or as a full, gamepad-esque portable.

I really dig the name, it is quirky and grows on you, Nintendo-style.

Also guys, there will be a Switch Pro controller, Nintendo confirmed it. I will pick one up for sure. It'll be interesting to get some press reactions on how the Joycon one handles though.

Those standalone paddles look massively uncomfortable, only concern of mine.

I'm concerned as well but when you look at the GameBoy Pocket and GBA SP the buttons are around the same distance apart as far as I can tell. I just think we've become so used to having a screen between our buttons we forget how close together they used to be! Or at least I do.

Good hardware reveal and I like the concept. Was Day1 purchase for me because of Zelda anyway. Now I need to know more about games on this thing.

Pretty disappointed, especially not liking the controller to use when the portable form is in the dock. Need to see more obviously but I'm not the hyped category by any means.

Talked with a friend this morning via IM about this preview. This was his reaction:

Swearing and hyperbole aside, I kind of agree with him.

I don't know who's forcing you to carry this around, especially with how it's a full home console you can leave plugged into your TV forever.

I've also got no issue with playing Nintendo games on a Nintendo console. That's kind of why I buy them. Don't know why he thinks ports would be shitty and why this would have more shovelware than the other consoles.

Also not sure why he put console in quotes.

This is just a new WiiU with some really uncomfortable looking controllers and beffy innards. I would hopeful for a game changer.

Big old maybe.

I didn't see any kind of headset peripheral or voice chat showcased in the marketing video.
They did hint at esports or whatever with the splatoon teams, tho. Immediately I wondered how they could all communicate in a team game without voice chat.

Does anyone know if Nintendo has talked about this? It's sad that we even have to ask, but given Nintendo's history of choosing not to include voice chat on their platforms, it does beg the question.

We know there's a 3.5mm jack, from that guy playing skyrim on the plane. Hopefully all you'llneed to do is plug in a headset with a mic attached.

I like that they finally put a cover over the cartridge slot similar to the Vita's.

On my DS and 3DS I would sometimes accidentally pop the cartridge out and it was really annoying.

LOVE everything

This thread is weird af

I was expecting waaay more doom, and waay less gloom.

Maybe Nintendo is doing it right this time
GAF loves things that aren't that successful, GAF hates things that are very successful. Also, there's a lot of praise in beginning, and my question marks as the thread goes, it's not all hype.

I'm very iffy on what Nintendo will accomplish with this besides continuing dominance in Japan.

Can't I just play Wiimote Nunchuk style like the guy in the trailer does when playing Skyrim? Cus imma be doing that all the time if so.

That thing probably charges them or something.

Why would I buy this over a 3ds or a vita or an Nvidia Shield?

The 3DS is good, but for the others, the same reason you buy a Nintendo console to begin with - Nintendo games. If you aren't interested in those, there isn't a real reason to get a Nintendo console.

I myself want this because the 3DS is showing its age for sure, and I'd like to be able to play Breath of the Wild while I travel (which is a lot). I grew up with Nintendo franchises and am always interested in playing the next iteration of them. I cannot wait for the Switch!

Nope...those looked like they were made for toddlers...waaaaay too small.

I've seen some people saying the joy-cons look uncomfortable, which I kinda agree with, but they don't seem any worse than using the Wiimote sideways and that didn't seem to hurt it's popularity.

There's a headphone port so I imagine there will be headsets..

Well, I was already sold before-hand as I held over on getting the Wii U once it was talked about the NX/Switch dropping end year/early next.

I'll be pre-ordering as soon they are available to do so. Again, they had a better codename, I prefer NX to Switch, but that's no real concern.

I love the ability to bring the full-on games with me wherever I go and as shown you can still use the pro controller on the move which is fantastic.

Curious about the screen and touch/features, especially if they bring over Super Mario Maker. Then as others pointed out, since it accepts cards now, what would be the chances of playing DS/3DS titles on this thing.

Kotaku article seems to indicate near the end that the price and other info will be revealed closer to launch.

How closely to their reveals were previous Nintendo consoles available to pre-order?

Am I wasting my time thinking this will be available on Amazon today?
