actually thats my fault, im going on like 3 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours, i know remember the people holding them independently like sideways wii controllers

for some reason it just wasnt clicking in my head that this thing will require 3 li-on rechargable batteries
Yeah, you can definitely use the controllers unattached. In the video a guy on a plane uses them one in each hand Wii style.

I still believe you could be right that the grip gives them an extra charge though.

Yeah, it's out in a week

I don't think it coming late to the Switch is really going to matter that much, though. The whole draw of it is having Skyrim on the go.

Agreed. It's a good attempt to indicate the scope of titles that'll be playable on the handheld.

i thought the question at hand was, is it just a port of a 6 year old game, and not the soon to be released current gen remastered edition

Yeah, that's a fair point, and I agree, but to say it won't be a late port is perhaps a bit misleading.

Im pretty disappointed. Looks like theyre releasing a Nintendo branded Nvidia Shield, minus the PC gamestreaming? oh look, a last gen game was the sole non nintendo game they showed. That isnt foreshadowing their future third party support at all...

I don't think any of that matters if the console sells. The 3rd parties will be there just like they were for the Wii

They showed it as separate wireless entities on portable mode. So each joycon is self powered.

sorry i didnt back track to edit my post

I hope they make a joycon with a proper D-Pad as well. I'd be fine with purchasing that separately. Doesn't seem like it's be too far out of the realm of possibility.

The whole thing feels just so different from anything Nintendo has done before.

The design is so slick, it doesn't have that "toy" feel they've been stuck with for so long. It feels and looks like a modern piece of tech.

It's also less gimmicky, for a lack of a better word.

I mean, we haven't seen any motion control, gyrometer, accelerometer, hell, not even a camera.

No Miis (so far.)

Those buttons are the ugliest part of the system. I wonder why they chose to make them like rubber cutouts in the shell instead of just circular buttons. The only thing I can think of is the reason for the triangle Start / rectangle Select button on DualShock: because they feel different from one another. The Pro Controller has them the normal way, though.

It's actually a really distinct "feature" that makes it stand out. I kinda think it's fancy but in a pretty good way.

I really see this continuing on the Nintendo sales decline chart. With a bit of an incline as it will mix the portable and console audiences. There's nothing here that screams a sales trend change.

That said I am more interested than I have been since Gamecube.

I think it's their slickest hardware design since the GBA SP.

buddy you seem to have missed the prominently shown NBA 2K17

iwata's plan was to use the mobile market to give people a taste of their franchises while the dedicated market would be the full versions that people would spend money on. the mobile games would in effect be advertising that they earn money on.

at least with pokemon go, the plan seems to be working - it raised awareness of the 3ds and their pokemon games. super mario run will be their next big test.

in addition they're expanding into other areas where people might see their brands - notably in film and at theme parks. they're using account systems to keep all of these ideas connected.

ok, i can see that but whose really going to buy this? It's one thing that pokemon go became a fad sensation for a time there but to shell out 200 or 300 plus dollars is going to be a tough one. Especially since your smart phone now costs you full price (paid per month). Whose gonna do a smart phone AND this device?

Nintendo has a very dedicated base but beyond that i just don't see it reaching the crowd that the wii did. Without that casual crowd it's going to be the same outcome as the wiiu and gamecube.

I was actually going to mention the DSi XL specifically and I love myself some GB Micro (Use one every year to play FFVa 2-6 times a summer) but I don't think either were as forward thinking as the original clamshell, frontlit, rechargable battery, no HEADPHONE JACK, odd looking slice of a cube that was the GBA SP.

It's clear they went way out of their way to really differentiate it from the Wii, Wii U and DS. To the point where they probably said "Lets not include any touch, motion control or Mii-related" in the trailer.

Switch has several cool gimmicks. It may be the gimmickiest console to date.
Thing is, it's basically one gimmick with a variety of applications, like they showed. Up to you to decide if those apply specifically to you, but it's way clearer of a message than whatever the Wii U was trying to sell us.

(Someone on the last page suggested this will be less powerful than the WiiU because of "batteries")

We already have a bunch of insiders on GAF and other places that has been proven right say its much more powerful then the WiiU, but people keep throwing around its gonna be weaker then WiiU smh

anecdotal but no less then 10 non core gamers today at work were talking about this today with new ipad/iphone/samsung like anticipation
I mentioned it before, but the two girls behind the counter where I went to preorder, were unaware of the Switch. When I showed them a picture of it they were very impressed with the look of the system. They thought it looked cool. They weren't gamers either.

I think this thing will do better than Wii U at least.

The NX port of Zelda: BOTW looked really rough at the beginning of the video. It was clearly running sub-HD there.

System should be more powerful than Wii U so it may seem bizarre, but Nintendo maximised IBM CPU/AMD GPU combos for three straight console gens and the game is probably optimised for that unique architecture right now.

Now it's being moved to a more normal but completely foreign CPU architecture (ARM) and an Nvidia GPU.

Frankly, the trailer didn't do a good job of showing the system's graphical prowess at all. But that's not what the trailer was about; they'll probably stick that in the big Launch Direct or whatever and then we can do our Wii U, Xbox One, blah blah blah comparisons.

I can say with almost 100% certainly that none of that footage was actually running on the devices in the actors' hands. It was undoubtedly added in during editing.

Yes, the fucking thing clearly has active cooling. Only system I can think of with similar vents that lacked it was the N64. Engineers don't like to put magnets for dust unless they have to, and low-power stuff does not need active cooling. This thing will outdo the Wii U, though I wouldn't be shocked if the fan only kicks in and it overclocks when it's plugged in and not running on battery.

Going back to the Nvidia rumours it sounds like Nintendo may have made out like a bandit on the Nvidia parts, but Nintendo hasn't ever been shy to advertise their hardware vendors, even on the hardware itself on GC and Wii, so it should be good advertising.

I know that, but I still think it's Switch footage.

A fair point, even if it wasn't articulated well.

I believe what the poster was trying to say is that he had concerns given the inherently portable nature of the system, that developers would opt to have less graphics intensive games in order to compensate for battery life.

searched and found nothing but...

Can't unsee...

Except, it isn't a late port and will be the remastered version arriving at the same time as every other system's version.

No, it's not coming out 5+ months early to match the PS4/XB1 remasters' release date in less than a week. So yes, it is a late port of a port of a 5-year old game that will be full price like the PS4/XB1 versions. That's not exciting.

It hasn't even been officially announced by Bethesda, they won't talk about it.

As a parent of some young kids (3 and 1), my kids simply can't hold the Wii U controller at the moment, which is probably a blessing in disguise.

The switch looks to be about the same size meaning it's going to be difficult for them to play except for using the smaller joy con controllers. It remains to be seen if there's any buttons or functionality lost by just using those.

That's my one big complaint about the Wii U.

Yeah the slickness certainly helps make me excited about it. I mean I liked Wii U, but looking at it, the controller really looks and feels like a toy. It doesn't prevent one from having fun with it (like I said, I really like the system myself), but having actually slick and modern looking hardware really makes the Switch feel a lot more interesting already. I'd say though that a lot of the "gimmicks" will be there I think, they just didn't show them yet. But that's not a bad thing in my opinion.

But anyway, even the reveal video itself was very slick. Like, it was miles away from the Wii U reveal trailer. The entire focus of the video was completely different.
