If Nintendo were smart they would put Lebron James in Smash Bros. This unprecedented partnership with 2K Games would be reinforced by featuring their most popular characters in Nintendo's next iteration of Smash on the Switch.

B Throws basketball (ranged attack)
Down B Flop (Melee counter that summons a ref blowing a whistle)
Up B Block (Range counter/deflection)
Forward B Dunk (Hoop appears and Lebron dunks it hard)
Back B Swipe (steals item)

A Elbow swing (Short range melee where Lebron double clutches his basketball)
Down A Set Pick (Freezes in place for a short while and deals damage on contact)
Up A Powder slap (throws damaging cloud of smoke up)
Forward A Shoulder Charge
Back A Post Moves (Back characters down with your butt)

Smash Chasedown Block (Lebron runs a character down and slaps them off the screen)
 
It's still early on, lots of questions, but this is the first time in a while a console has interested me in terms of the hardware and its possibilities.

IPS isn't behind in viewing angles either. If it's IPS as rumored it will be leaps and bounds the best display Nintendo ever shipped, can't wait to see Mario on it.

Interesting concept, but the hardware is going to be expensive for the power. I'm concerned about the battery life. Looks like a crappy portable and an underpowered console. I hope I'm wrong, because I'd like to be excited about a Nintendo platform again.

Well, they probably want to stay clear of comparison with PS4 Slim and Xbox One S, so a price of $250 or lower would make sense to me. Perhaps a bundle with Zelda (sounds quite likely) will be $300 then.

Edit: As you can see above, there is no consensus about this yet ;)

It might look like an underpowered console but it's a god tier portable. It's basically my dream handheld.
 
Question: Have there been any size comparisons made to Nintendo's past systems and to the Wii U gamepad?

I very actively take advantage of the portability of my 3DS and TBH I'm worried this is simply to big (and likely heavy). I'm also worried that the analog sticks will get caught in whatever bag I'm carrying it around in.
 
I'm wondering if it possible that they will be able to use higher clock speeds when the tablet is docked if it has active cooling in the dock part. The dock seems needlessly big if it is purely a charger plus HDMI out, and Nintendo really don't like to needlessly big.

They're smart enough to realize that:

1. They're launching mid generation and those types already have some combination of PS4/Xbox 1/PC.

2. That market tends to be turned off by their "kiddie" art styles. The people wanting powerful machines tend to prefer realistic graphic styles and genres Nintendo doesn't focus on. Thus their exclusives aren't going to help sell a powerful console, and third party ports wouldn't help either due to point 1.

Nintendo's only path to success right now is doing something different that makes it attractive as an additional platform to core gamers who already have other platforms and/or brings in casuals/nongamers (which is a tough task in the post-mobile gaming era).
 
Any details about the dock having supplemental processing power - like some more RAM, storage and GPU power within the dock that is only usable when the tablet part is connected ?

I'm particularly interested in tech geeky talk.

And luckily there are already two consoles like that. Last time Nintendo tried that approach (Gamecube) they failed horribly.

And frankly, I would much rather have something new than another PS4 or XB1

I don't think that's a possibility. That's something they would have shown at the reveal I think. But I do wish it could. I WANT A MARIO MAKER SEQUEL DAMMIT

Bolded wouldn't make any sense. It would, however, make sense to market the big brothers/sisters of mobile/DeNa games on the NS."You liked Mario runner? Play the big new Mario adventure on the Nintendo Switch now!" Not "Hey, this Mario runner you are now playing can actually also be played on am expensive device you don't own!" The latter isn't exactly a big selling point in my opinion.
 
Really excited about the switch. I actually dig the look of the console. Let's just hope to have a sufficient game catalog at launch!

Nothing yet, but that seems unlikely. Most likely it will just let the system upclock to output games at 1080p when docked, vs. 720p or lower when in portable mode and needing to save battery.

There are lots of ways that could happen without two screens.

-Redo the building UI to work with controllers ala the LBP games.

-Assuming the Switch is a touch screen, allow building via the touch screen in portable mode and playing the game in either.

-Put out a companion app for smartphones, tablets and PC for building levels. Hell, they could even make the app free as it would just mean more levels for owners of the Switch game to play and a lot of people are more into playing levels than making levels.
 
I have a question:

I am sold on the Switch to the point I'll probably buy 2. However, It's not exactly blowing my mind with its concept. It's dope and I fully get but what the hell was the delay for? What took Nintendo all this time to show a proof of concept video and miss the 2016 Holiday season? Might be hard to answer but there is nothing in this tech, so far, that makes it look like it needed to cook this long.

Those customers have 2 other consoles and PC to choose from, and have had those options available to them since 2013. Where is this magical market of potential console owners that are waiting for Nintendo to offer the exact same thing as the PlayStation or Xbox? There isn't one, in fact there's barely a market to support both PlayStation and Xbox internationally.

As long as Nintendo offers a good combination of price/performance and appealing software they will be fine, especially when they aren't constantly handicapping one of their platforms to support another.

Official explanation for the delay is getting games ready.
 
theres nothing quite like being years and years late to the tablet party

dunno what the rest of the world is like but in uk at least, kids seem to have left tablets behind and turned to hand me down phones/phablets where they have mobile data which im assuming this wont have

too big and cumbersome for using like a traditional handheld, not powerful enough for using like a traditional console, and lets all gather around this tiny screen for multiplayer!

very muddled up system

The dock seems to be only just that...the dock. I don't think there's some form of wireless communication between the dock and the main unit, unless they surprise us that it can do just that.

I think they need to hit $249 to stay relevant. Also, I would've named it the NintenGO.
 
While new hardware is always exciting, i just don't see how this console fits in realworld gaming ecosystem.
Unless specs are awesome and beat XB/PS4 base models, it will still be a console for Nintendo fans, and while that may be enough, won't help having enough 3rd party support in the long term. Also pricing is key, and doesn't seem to be cheap. If it was 200€ it may have a mild chance to have some traction if they can get AAA 3rd party games like FIFA to attract more gamers.

Disagree. Having all the 3rd party content on your console with all of your own franchises would be a better option than selling inferior hardware with similar price tag (just a guess) while missing a huge part of the gaming library. Nintendo fans will love it if that's the case, and that's not enough.

Honestly, I don't see what you're saying. Like, maybe I'm alone in this, but if I can buy the same games for the same price, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of visual fidelity just to have the option to take it on the go. You give me the option to play Persona 5 or Final Fantasy VII or Battlefield on the Switch, and suddenly my PS4 becomes what my Wii U was--a console for first party stuff. I don't see why I would want the PS4 version.

I mean, this is what the Vita promised and failed at. This is essentially what handhelds have been trying to do from the beginning. I can understand concerns about third party support, price, and how much visual fidelity will be sacrificed, but I don't understand people taking an issue with the hardware and concept itself.
 
I'm so curious to see whether it has a touch screen. The way the system is designed, there is no way to display on TV and tablet simultaneously, an explicit curb-stomping of the Wii U concept. Any touchscreen use would be restricted to portable mode.

It's probably for the best that they ditch the second screen idea but I hope they come up with some cool multiplayer ideas. Being able to easily connect multiple tablets to a docked Switch could finally realise some of the concepts they had in NintendoLand and Game and Wario. Everyone having their own screen could make things very interesting.

I disagree. With board gaming coming back in a huge way and people looking for social gaming, I can DEFINITELY see a use for this outside of Japan.

I can see Smash leagues in bars, or Splatoon leagues. Show up with your Switch, put it on your table, order some beers and food, hang out with buddies and then start the competition.

Think of a LAN party but all you're bringing is a one pound tablet, charging cable, and maybe a pro controller that all fit into your backpack.

Seeing as how there are unannounced surprises, and Nintendo is refusing to comment on whether the display is a touchscreen or not, I think it is safe to say that it is indeed a touchscreen and they don't want to reveal that aspect yet.

The supplemental thing could be another device connected to the dock or the tablet part released at a later date

There is still some chance there may be something about the dock, if you look at the connections, aren't they all at the bottom of the tablet (im not sure how to call it) so if it's inserted normally down where , if the dock is meant to stand upright then there's probably no holes at the bottom for the cables, I think there are male connectors inside the dock if we believe the device is docked upside down, then it may not be , but it could be some kind of upscaling going on, and then another hdmi output on the back side of the dock to go to TV, who knows

I just checked the commerical, it does take out upside, and you see he doesn't conect any cables and aren't seen and are supposably hidden behind, so the dock has the cables probably, I hope it's not just an empty passthrough!!!

The side connectors are probably 2 USB, i guess one 2.0 and one 3.0

I hope it's not some kind of wireless passhrough.

Also the system memory dev kit leak isn't the cartridge right, that's just what the tablet part has ?

Maybe the dock isn't part of the dev kit since simply enabling more raw RAM , GPU and CPU isn't going to make games in progress or released incompatible or buggy so maybe they want to keep it secret from them as well.
