Emily Rogers: Splatoon Switch is not a sequel, allegedly. Same for Mario Kart.

I may be in the minority here but this is my take as a day 1 Wii-U lover.

I don't mind if Smash, Mario Kart, and Splatoon have so-called "enhanced ports". Those three games are excellent, well-crafted games. I love all three of them and play at least two of them on a weekly basis. If Nintendo brings these games over to the Switch day 1 or within the first six months, that would be a great start to the library. Obviously there would have to be some extra's like new characters/stages in Kart and Smash (maybe redo Battle Mode in Mario Kart too). Splatoon would need new features and maybe another campaign. Bring a slightly fresh addition to a great foundation and Nintendo would be off and running.

Personally, I would rather see Nintendo put minimal resources towards these ports and focus more on new experience (like older IP's or new IP's). I don't need a brand new Smash Bros game that will take three+ years to make and tie up resources that could be spent elsewhere.

That's where I'm at as well. On Wii U they needed years to check off the list with Mario, Mario Kart and Smash to then go on and do something fresh like Splatoon. Those games are evergreens and super solid. They are not like most Remasters on PS4 or XBO, those are SOME games remastered. In case of Switch those are THE games that need to survive Wii U's death. I could play Kart or Splatoon forever so having them on Switch right from the start with a good online structure would be amazing. And cool new modes and more content please. But not something like Bayonetta or Xenoblade. Those games don't need an enhanced port in my opinion.

Release those ports and then focus on all the cool new stuff. It will be glorious.

As someone who skipped the Wii U, the thought of getting Mario Kart and other games I missed at or near launch definitely is appealing to me if the price is sane for this console.

Totally see how this could be lame for those who had a Wii U, but i'm hopeful that the substantial software drought by Nintendo means they've still got a bunch to show us.

Wouldn't be surprised if Mario Maker and Pokken (arcade version is still getting updates) got thrown into the launch window as well. Monolith Soft is probably working on the next Xenoblade game and Retro's next project will probably be one of the Switch's first flagship titles along with the new Mario.
Hmm but how would local pokken function for people only buying one switch? The second screen is necessary.

As someone who wants to play Mario Kart 8 with new stuff, it's not that lame haha

Also, I'm assuming they're still making a new Mario Kart and Splatoon. They'll just come out later in the systems life like always.

Not enough to buy a new console for no, I don't have any real need to play games on the go (I think the N/S is too big for a handheld).

I just feel let down by Nintendo I suppose, getting a WiiU and 3DS at launch was a mistake, yes they did have some stellar games in the end, but I wish I had waited like everyone else did, and bordering on going OT I fear many will just wait before getting a N/S.

I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. What is going to be the hook to get Nintendo's Wii U and possible 3DS customers to purchase the Nintendo Switch? Also, Nintendo Switch isn't looking remotely kid friendly.

Nintendo ----> The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
Nintendo ----> New IP (2017) (Rumored by Emily Rogers and hinted by Miyamoto)
Nintendo ----> Mario Kart 8SE
Nintendo ----> Splatoon SE
Nintendo -----> New 3D Mario (November 2017?)

Nintendo / Namco-Bandai / Sora ----> Super Smash Bros. SE
Nintendo / Retro ------------> New Project

That's a great first year line up with Mario, Zelda, New IP, and Retro. Then supplemented by some great DX ports. This is really best case scenario for 2017.

I will double dip on MK8 and Smash if they are available for Switch. I never owned Splatoon so it will be a good time to jump in once Switch is available.

Breath of the Wild, new Mario, new Mario Kart 8, better graphics, and everything that can happen after that point. What kind of question is this? That's assuming you never use the portable function too.

The selling points for Wii U and 3DS were another ugly 2D Mario game and some dumb half baked pilot wings, respectively. This is a huuuuge leap up.

What's the betting that Nintendo charge full price for these 'ports'.

If they offer enough new content and enhancements over the Wii U versions.. why not?
We're not the primary target audience of these ports anyway. They're for those who didn't bother with Wii U

BoTW isn't coming to Wii U?

On the bright side if those games are enhanced ports it means that the team that would be making a new mario kart is busy doing something else.

Atleast some of them

In case of Mario Kart and Smash it would make sense at least. There's a lot DLC you can buy today if all of that is packed-in with additional characters on top that's a lot of value for 40€-50€ (I expect Switch games to cost the same amount as most Wii U and 3DS games).

Talking Splatoon, I don't know. That I would definitely feel a bit icky about unless they added tons of new stuff.

If you're a Smash/MarioKart/Splatoon fan, wouldn't you be excited about new stages and characters? People went gaga over every DLC listing. What about playing these things on the go?

Not enough to pay full price to replay most of the same games I already own. It kind of pisses me off that I won't get acces to any of the new content. The only port I'm excited for is Splatoon because I never bought it for Wii U.

If the add a few new bells and whistles to the games I will gladly buy at full price.

It's the compromised version that adds nothing to compensate (gamepad mirrors TV) and may come out after like Twilight Princess for all we know.

It's like saying Wii had nothing to offer at launch because you had a GameCube ("I don't see myself using the motion features").

Nintendo sold those games to a 10+ million install base so basically noone knows them. They costed a ton and reviewed very well so we will definitely see them again.

That being said, a fairly priced remaster like TLOU would probably seem like a decent proposition.

everything impeccable in every possibleway, performancewise and all DLC included and not for fucking $59.99

It's a perfect way to pad out the launch window with enhanced ports. I will buy all of those games again as they are evergreen titles to me that don't get old. Hopefully Mario Maker gets ported too.

Definitely will. A lot of money was spent on making that game only for it to release on a dead console.

It will benefit a lot from a new platform.
I doubt it too. The people who buy games like Xenoblade Chronicles X are the same people who buy a failing console so they can play Xenoblade Chronicles X. Not worth the money for the port I don't think.

I was just being general, I don't mean you specifically were literally mad; I mean simply people rightly expressing doubt because of the way Nintendo chose to reveal the system are not at fault. That's on Nintendo. That the way they revealed Switch allows so much doubt is the problem.

I think they done fine for a 3 minute reveal.

I don't have a problem with having doubts, especially about Western 3rd Parties. I have doubts and as a Wii U owner with all of these games I've said that they need to make sure they add new content to these titles while also offering new experiences that weren't available on the Wii U.

My issue is that I think we should slow down before saying Switch only has Wii U ports. I've seen plenty of comments in here to that effect and it doesn't make sense when the only thing Nintendo has said about games is that they won't talk about games until next year.

For a person that have a full Wii U library and a full 3DS library, what would be the point of buying the Nintendo Switch for enhanced ports. As a owner of both systems I am already disappointed that 3DS is getting ports of Mario Maker and Wooly Yoshi World. Like WTF? How about some original games Nintendo. A person would just play the game on the console they are ready own. In terms of games, the Nintendo Switch has to offer something else.

Oh God, another idea jumped in my head. I really hope Gamefreak/Nintendo/Pokemon Company doesn't port Pokemon Sun & Moon to the Nintendo Switch.

Hmm....while I understand why this is happening for Splatoon, I still feel like it deserves a full blown sequel.

It'll absolutely get one. They're just doing a port for now to fill out the launch and keep the game alive on a new platform.

So we will get 10% off MSRP for previous ownership or will they not fuck their customers?

I'd want a little more taken off than 10%, but no, they won't do that. I assume they'll just be discounted from the start ($40?)

Sorry, you can't write off BoTW as a NX exclusive for reasons like that.
Besides, how is it compromised when it was developed for the Wii U first?

If Splatoon really is the same game, then the amount of work they've put into already makes it feel more like they're practically remaking it.

I don't see this one happening for some reason.

I do see it
avatar quote!

Mostly because Xenoblade Chronicles on N3DS did not absolutely bomb and because its a BIG, long game that could fill a gap in between important releases
and to hype the next installment in the series

That's exactly what I was thinking. It started being developed for the Wii U from day 1. Hell the only reason it isn't out is because of the Switch.

I know Serkan Toto said they were wanting to get it out at launch but I'd actually like for Smash Switch to be a launch window title, as in few months down the line after the Switch comes out. Not only would it give Sakurai and his team a bit more extra time to work on new stuff and iron out the kinks, I think it would also somewhat alleviate the whole "SWITCH LAUNCH DAY LINEUP IS NOTHING BUT PORTS" fear that seems to be persistent in this thread. In that regard, having MK8 at launch with new stuff might not sting as much for some.

I'd be so happy about the ports. I missed some quality Nintendo games they released for the Wii U, and I'd love to play then on NS. I see no possibility that Nintendo can mess up this time, everything sounds so great.

Nintendo could easily fuck this up at any given moment.

It's pretty likely they port that over too considering the Japanese audience for RPGs on portables.

Yeah, I see this game, W101, Tokyo Mirage Sessions and anything that cost alot of money to make that bombed on Wii U getting ported to Switch. Makes perfect sense.

I would'nt mind rebuying XBX if they turn it into a full fledged MMO (32 players roaming the world at the same time if the cpu can handle it). Add some big quests you can tackle with other people that advance the storyline. And hopefully they'll also balance the broken gameplay... if it gets ported.

When did I ever say it was exclusive? I said it's a reason to upgrade. And it's compromised because it's on worse hardware with less features. Even Hyrule Warriors Legends on an original 3DS has something over the original version.

If Nintendo really wanted to be aggressive, they'd pack in Mario Kart with this thing. Not a more expensive bundle or SKU, just right in there with every unit.

Wanna make additional money off MKS? Sell a season pass.

Here's a $300 device for the whole family, at home or on the go. Here's an excellent family game included, and it even supports two players out of the box.

That's the last thing I want the Xeno series to turn into.

They did it for XC on 3ds

That's because it's a fan favourite, is critically acclaimed, and is the first game in the series.

Well Splatoon and Mario Kart have new content, so I would expect the same for Smash. Kinda surprised they didn't show Smash. I hope it has all the content of the Wii U and 3DS versions plush a tiny bit of new stuff.
