Getting a sticker for voting is an American custom?

Like a lot of traditions it probably has a weird archaic mythological beginning but I think it started in the 80s as a way to get more people voting. You see people with the stickers, you're reminded about voting and that it's the day to do it.

Quoting myself from the last page. Can anybody help? I'm worried they won't let my wife vote because she's registered at an old address in a different county.

PA voting question: My wife is still registered in Philly, but will be voting at a new place and therefore has to show ID. Her address will not match her registration, and if they ask where she lives she would either have to lie or say Montgomery County.

Will she have any problems voting?

I was asked for ID and my address is still my old Philly address. They had to ask a judge if it was OK and he said it was fine as long as my name was in there and my photo ID matched.

Man, was wondering why the CNN app got so many low reviews and most of it wasn't even about the app. It was a bunch of Trump supporters saying CNN wasn't covering their side fairly. Stupid. CNN has the most Trump surrogates on.

I know GAF leans heavily towards Hillary, but can you really be banned just for supporting Trump?

That would be absolutely ridiculous

No..no you can't. Diablos and his vampire friend would have been tossed ages ago. He just needs to step away from his computer for the day..his brain broke..

It doesn't work like that, although I can see your point. All the bigotry caused by the Trump campaign will remain here. And if you can't educate the bigots, one can surely expect that shaming them will shut them up and allow educating people who can be educated.

Isn't people feeling 'shamed' or isolated from traditional politics part of the reason why Trump has done so well? It creates a them and us divide, with each side more emboldened and less likely to engage in sensible discourse.

Voted! Granted, I am in KY so I probably didn't move the needle for Hillary any but there were some important elections for local politicians that could maybe lead to greater LGBT protections in our city.

Also we had TWO varieties of stickers! My (apparently) edgelord brother tore his in half afterwards and lit it on fire.

ah oh NeoGAF seems to be slowing down!

is it just too early for any data on Votecastr? Whenever I click on the Slate link it just goes to an article describing what Votecastr is.

any good radio stream I can listen to while at work? I guess NPR would be a good option.

I don't seem to recall us having so much focus on queues either, here in the UK.

Granted I live in a small town, but I can literally run over at some point in the evening and I'll have voted within 2 minutes.

Our voting in elections is controlled by a completely independent body who provide enough polling stations and we get until 10pm to vote nationwide. Hence not many queues.

Ohio likes to say they are the "heart of it all" therefore I heart voting, therefore I love voting. Ya its dumb. Also fuck Michigan, sorry I cant help it.

Does she have a Bill at all for her new Address that she could show? I'm assuming PA doesn't have have same day registration? Like in WI if you bring proof of address like a bill you can register at the polls.

The only right choice for America: Hillary. I'd need to kill off half my brain to make voting Trump or any of the 3rd party candidate seem even remotely reasonable.

Nice. also, are you a VGA Turbo? I swear I saw someone in chat with the same username.

So what's the exact timing, it's 14 hours until we can be sure but it can be over in 12 hours depending on Ohio/NC/Florida? That's what I'm getting from reading this thread?I can wait 12 hours until 3 am in Yurop, but past that... well, some sleep before work would be nice.

It depends on the year.

It looks like NC/Florida could seal the deal, barring last minute concerns about Wisconsin or Michigan. So we'll know in the "clear" circumstance in about 13 hours. 2004 wasn't called until Wednesday morning. 2000 wasn't called for weeks.

Youre dealing with people who go based on feelings alone there isnt any logic there. If its not all pro trump and bash hillary like their other sources they think its against them.

Trump supporters don't deal in factual information

Not at all, not for supporting Trump.
One of the pre-existing conditions that would make a person vote for Trump on the other hand...yeah they can.

As far as I'm aware, your voter registration must match your DL or State ID. If it doesn't, you need to have a utility bill that establishes your current address. That's how it is here in Ohio, and I've got to do the bill thing myself since I forgot to get a new license when I moved recently.

Voted in DC. The wait ended up being about an hour and the line is now a third longer! Great turnout it's appearing.

You get banned if you start quoting the standard trump talking points of easily refutable slander against Hillary Clinton, because at this point if you're still parroting it you're a lost soul.

You don't just get banned for saying you support Trump. But you definitely won't be getting a warm reception.

Isn't shaming those people part of the reason why Trump has done so well? It creates a them and us divide, with side more emboldened and less likely to engage in sensible discourse.

I have engaged in sensible discourse with people who have intolerant views of minorities and changed their thoughts luckily. But there are some problems with that:

1. I cannot expect a minority to have the patience of having sensible discourse with someone who thinks less of him or her. I am priviliged of being a white looking, straight male that can educate people.

2. There are bigots who are aware of their views and actually entrench themselves in them, despite sensible discourse.

The divide will always be there, the best thing we can hope is to shut the racists who didn't want to be educated up, and hope that the next generation is more tolerant.

I'm a little confused. She has registered at her new address, she didn't change her license/ID? Or is she still registered at her old address? If she registered for her new address, her voter ID card can serve as ID. Says it right on the card. She won't have to show her license. If she isn't registered in her new county, her name won't show up in the books they use at the polling station, so she won't be able to vote.

No, people usually get banned when they try to justify their Trump vote which is basically them trying to hide their bigoted or racist views. So it's the racism and so on that gets them.

Are the stickers a new thing? I'm not American, but I don't recall reading anything about them on the last few election days.

Stickers are a regular thing for voting on election day. Also, a lot of times if you go around to bars and you're wearing the sticker you'll get a free beer there

Her current address is in Montgomery County. She is registered in Philadelphia. I assume that technically she shouldn't be able to vote in a district in which she does not reside.

I don't think PA has same day registration.

I wish I could have voted first thing but work started at 7:30 and I have a 40min drive. Before I head home I'm gonna stop at my poking place. NY's obviously going to Hillary but I'm still voting for her. My district usually goes red, and with all the Trump signs around I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same this year.
