United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

I asked this earlier, I'm asking again. Why was anybody who was nervous laughed at? Why was gaf so sure we had this? I've been nervous due to Nate silvers model showing momentum and saying he needed one state... Why did people laugh that notion off? Hell even the prediction thread, people laughed at any map that had it close.

As someone not from the US, I am truly saddened to see how much hate, intolerance and overall ignorance can be part of such a great country in order for something like this to happen. Specially after having such an incredible president during the last 8 years.

It is very depressing and I don't really get the jokes about the whole world laughing at the US when in reality we will all be impacted by this decision one way or another for at least 4 years.

I am not a believer but if there is some type of god I truly hope he/she/it pulls a rabbit out of the hat in the next hour or so to turn this around.

While not a hardcore Hillary-gaf poster, I can say that the loss hurts.

Mostly, I just hope Trump's healthcare package is reasonable, and looks after the most in need.

Well he did at least kinda stand up for healthcare in the Republican debates when he said he wouldn't let people die in the streets, despite being attacked for that sentiment by the other candidates on stage. Maybe, for whatever reason, that's one issue he actually unselfishly cares about.

Serious question, are minorities going to suddenly be gunned down? That's how yall are making it out to be.

Yeah, hyperbole is pretty standard for these things. This is something that happens on both sides actually.

Now if Trump 100% had the power to enact whatever he wanted and did, they would sort of have a point. But he won't and can't.

I fear so many people are going to get killed in this month alone after this election. America is a fucked up place. Stay safe guys. Four years of Trump is not the end of the world.
I hope not!

I believe many people, especially in cities, will behave better than the person they have elected. We are not going to wake up to lawlessness tomorrow. The next few decades will certainty be feeling it, however.

Well congrats my fellow Americans. We're a laughing stock just like you wanted! 😋

We got our clown running the country and making us laugh ourselves to death! How fitting for jokesters who voted for the poor man's oompa loompa.

You've successfully Made America Gross Again! 👍

I can't imagine Donald Trump makes it four years without either
1.)tweeting something impeachable
2.)being convicted of a crime
3.)overreaching in his position and being impeached

Basically just doing SOMETHING too far.

My fear is that he'll stack the Executive branch with so many Trump true believers that it won't enforce any rulings by the Legislative branch.

This is how democracy dies.

I just saw a live shot of Hillary's camp and the announcer was explaining to the crowd that there is still hope, because there might be a tie...

I'm so pissed right now. I voted for her out of an obligation, not because I liked her at all or wanted her as President.

The early polls showed that Trump had a chance to beat Hillary. But we just had to fucking nominate her anyway.

He's turning in his grave.

WTF. I thought that would be an easy win for Hillary when I went to bed and now I'm waking up and I'm getting Brexit flashbacks.

What are you doing America?

This. For as bad as Trump is, people seriously do not like Clinton.

For real. It took my mom until the time we were leaving the house to decide she was actually going to vote for Clinton. Hell, I had to convince her last night to even go vote for down ballot races. She's voted Democratic in every primary and general since she was 18. She just hated both candidates, but reluctantly picked Clinton at the last minute.

Trump supporters really coming out of the woodwork in GAF tonight.

Ye I realized. This is just a small example of the real world. They were quiet before but now that Trump basically won they are all out in force.

This is the future from now on. All the deplorables will be seen and heard.

Damn, I was lead to believe Hillary had this in the bag. Trumps debate performance, polling, and overall social climate all pointed to him losing significantly.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills

No, what happened was a giant echo chamber formed. Everyone had laughs at the memes, the funny or die movie, the jokes about trump and how stupid his supporters are. Everyone got to feel all smug and have a good old laugh. THAT is what happened.

I just want to respond in the hopes others see this. We have survived bad times and this is no different. We'll see what happens 4-8 years from now. I'm hoping it's all good.

Just a reminder, this man will be appointing justices to the SCOTUS who will be there for decades. This definitely will have an impact beyond 4-8 years.

It's all over but the crying....and people were saying Clinton was a shoe-in, Sanders had no shot, etc.

Clinton has too much baggage. A garbage candidate.
The thing is, while Clinton's baggage is not like two suitcases and a handbag, people never think about the forty crates, seventeen trolleys, eight suitcases and four handbags of baggage that Trump has. Oh, and the corpse in the trunk of his car.

I really wish Biden would have ran :-(

He might have been able to win, but idk. Trump is so much stronger than I ever thought he would be. He's up by 1.5 million in the popular vote

The worst part about this is the realization of how naive I was. I live in an echo chamber. I'm a liberal college student, I browse GAF, I listened to pollsters who were apparently rock-solid, and it turns out that the reality I live in is not the real America. I'm actually a little embarrassed. I genuinely thought it would be a fucking landslide for Hillary.

Fun reminder:

A President Trump will have the nuclear launch codes.

No one has authority to overturn his command. Not even the joint chiefs of staff. Four minutes between the order and the launch.

He once asked four-star generals, "Well why can't we use nukes?"

Goodbye, world.
And if he doesn't launch the world into nuclear war then we'll all die from climate change anyways since they republicans will throw out the climate change agreement.

sooooooo... You vote for him? you Trump supporters sneaky.

Yeah, I voted for him in the state of Florida and I'm glad I did. And I generally kept quiet about it because if we showed support for him we are immediately accused of being racist, sexist, or some other awful title even though we aren't. We are tired of the status quo and corruption in the US government. Trump isn't the ideal choice, but he is a whole hell of a lot better than Clinton and the status quo that the majority of America is tired of. #DrainTheSwamp #BuildThatWall
