Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

Probably spent 2-3 hours last night trying to catch this one. Won't do it again on my Pokémon Moon run later on.

You know, this is suddenly bothering me.

So how come the enemy trainers don't do the Z dance when they use the Z move? I mean you can't say they didn't animate them, since we are almost always introduced with an NPC doing the dance. They have trainer models there already ruining the scale yet somehow they don't make use of them?! And it's another weird inconsistency, since Kukui even does the dance.

Damnit gamefreak where's my consistency within the same gen!

I'm really disappointed with the dearth of new Pokemon so far. New duders are the main draw for me, I'm just not interested in training any of the old guys, and here they're so few and far between. Pikipek? Yeah! Yungoos? Get in my party you handsome devil. But ...Ledyba? Metapod? Magnemite? Like, what are we doing here?

I didn't look at any of the leaks, but I was hoping for a good-sized generation of new Pokemon again.

Gotta grab a Grubbin.

Those days are probably over since they seem to not want to retread old ideas (except for the Pikaclones) since Gen VI. This is great in terms of making sure (almost) every new Pokemon is team-worthy material, but not so good for filling out the world to differentiate it from the past. True, no one ever used Ariados, Pelipper, or Lumineon, but they had their place all the same.

I wonder if they'll ever do another all-new dex like in Gen V, though that would involve even more rehashes.

I really don't see why anyone would want additional Ratatta/ Pidgey / Caterpie / Weedle clones honestly, Fletchling worked out because it was different , as did Staraptor do a lesser extent, but I couldn't even remember the names of the Pidove line without looking them up. Unless there's some actual reason to make new mons or they can fill some actual worthwhile niche , the pros don't outweigh the cons.

I think the game does a crappy job of selling the new ones to players, because it just offers better alternatives on the early routes.

Why would I keep a Pikipek when Wingull has twice the type coverage?
Why keep a Yungoos when Alolan Rattata has Dark on top right from the start?
Where are the cool new Ghost/Psychic types for me to choose over Gastly and Slowpoke? How about a Fighting type to rival Makuhita?
Why take on Oricorio, a Pokemon with cool variable typing who can't learn any moves for those types except for a single one at level 40?

I get that Pikipek and Yungoos have higher base Attack than their rivals, but in the early game, your average player is probably going to look at type coverage, not stats, and Normal(/Flying) just doesn't cut it when all these other options are available in the first couple of areas.
The Gen 7s end up just looking like generic expys compared to the shiny versatility and usefulness offered by the previous-gen mons (who are mostly gen 1 anyway).

The struggle has paid off. I finally got Pichu to evolve into Pikachu. Been petting and loving on the little guy for a long ass time but the final heart was the hardest and took the most effort to get even with a Soothe Bell.

Hoping I don't have to do the same with the Igglybuff I caught and can just catch a Jigglypuff. Gotta have my Wigglytuff.

You probably don't want to hear this, but apart from for Sylveon, the Hearts in Pokemon Amie / Refresh don't affect evolution at all, pokemon that involve by "Happiness" refer to the Gen 2 mechanic, which increases by walking with a pokemon , levelling them up, giving them massages , etc .

Because those enhanced type coverages come with downsides: Alolan Ratatta gets wrecked by Fighting moves, Wingull gets wrecked by electric moves. Oricorio doesn't learn specific type moves because you can change typing on the fly and since it's not a traditional "related" set of types there's no necessarily replacement moves available like there is for say Rotom (which I'll admit is a let down, I'd have preferred it if they'd done that, even if it required making some extra moves)

Yeah. The game isn't hard because it's challenging. The game is "hard" because it's more like an exercise of frustration in some ways.

I AM LOOKING AT YOU SOS MECHANIC.

I miss horde battles. :(

I just found Seaward Cave on the first island. That place is really hidden. The game certainly blocks you off from exploring at times, but there are still areas that many players probably miss.

I also got Totodile, so I now have all the Johto starters. Very tempted to Johto it up for the rest of the game...

the place is pretty useless unless you could surf tho, and iirc you'd be pointed there anyway

Why introduce Battle Royale on the second island, when you clearly can't properly play in it solo until the postgame? All of the Pokemon in the Normal Rank are Lv. 50 and fully evolved...I just don't get you GameFreak. Surely they could have made some little cup teams, or at the very least set everything to level 50 for the fight?

I don't think setting stuff to Level 50 would help much at that point, you're not going to have access to the level 50 moves, much ability to get good IVs / EVs / Natures or appropriate abilities, so you're going to be much weaker than your opponents even if you get boosted to 50.

Yeah, I was there with my munchlax lv 23 and the other trainer had a lv 50 mega tyranitar lol.

The hearts from Pokemon Refresh and friendship evolutions are two entirely unrelated mechanics.

It's a coincidence if it evolved after getting the 5th heart.

While I didn't order my copy from Amazon UK my copy of Sun has been dispatched. Which seems odd as when I placed the order a couple of days ago I was being told early-mid December.

Well apparently my wife managed to catch the PokeRus last night. And now we're both flooded in virus'd pokemon. Did they boost the rate on it showing up this gen?
Not heard anything. Get those bad boys onto wonder trade.

Adding to what has been said.

Apparently you can now increase happiness by teaching Pokemon TMs. So you can have 2 moves that you keep teaching and overwriting. Probably no quicker then using berries or other items though.

Because you can play it with your frineds. It serves as both an introduction to a new battle type and sets a goal for you other than just clearing the trials.

By scanning QR codes. scanning 10 lets you do an Island scan which lets you get rare Pokemon. Doing an island scan on the first island on a Monday lets you catch Totodile.

Want to preload the game now, but am still struggling to decide between Sun & Moon. Fml

I'd go with Moon immediately because the exclusive Pokemon are much cooler, but I hate that damn time shift and
that I have to live with it in the main story

Grinding for BP in this is horrible. Absolutely horrible.

It's killing me.

I really hope GF goes against their history and patches this (by that time I'll probably have an EV trained team and it won't matter).

When they connect Pokemon Bank, I expect them to update the Global Link as well. That may provide an alternative way to get BP. Right now the Global Link really does nothing there must be some incentive down the line.

The third version of Sun/Moon is going to be great.

There's a fantastic base game here, bogged down by performance issues, strange movepools, poor Pokemon distribution and other minor, but ultimately annoying design choices

Basically a bunch of things a third version can fix with no problems.

Anybody know for sure if Sun/Moon is indeed enhanced for the New 3DS? I'm not experiencing any of the frame rate issues I saw mentioned in reviews and I'm wondering if the New 3DS runs the game better. I can't find any evidence of this though.

Yeah, it is. No extra content or functionality, but the performance is much better on the N3DS. I've been playing Moon on an N3DSXL, while my fiancé has been playing Sun on my old OG 3DSXL, and her load times aren't crazy, but they're noticeably longer than mine.

The baffling thing about this is that in Black and White 2 Game Freak reduced the amount of battle points required by half they also made it easier to pay move tutors with shards that can easily be found and grind for.

But in gen 6 and seemly in this gen 7 they went back to the original archaic method.

WHat do you mean? Any changes to the battle facility?

It starts out at the equivalent of battle maison super singles.

Which means I'm trying to fight the Stockpile Walreins and Confuse Ray Umbreons with their proper EV spreads using my fucking in game team.

The Battle Royals are even worse. I'm up against Mega Lucarios and the like with my little Komala and his minus defense nature.

Woo.

Lol that sucks, they had it so good with the super singles thing too. They understood that shit needs a stepping stone.

I may PkHex a battle tree team then.

Do we still get 3 save slots in the game?

Nope, you will get your one save file and like it.

I think you might be in the wrong thread ? Mainline Pokemon games have never had more than 1 slot (Nintendo don't want people to "cheat" with trades).

Exactly, not even Colosseum or XD allow multiple save files or allowed the data to be copied and that was a GameCube title.

I can't wait to see what "Pokémon Stars" will be like and then I am gonna laugh so hard at Zygarde and X and Y.

Trying to find Stufful

First one has bad nature

*Find another one*

The second one has naughty nature

"Not too bad"

*Has klutz ability*

...Lord please help me get through this.

I miss the days where you could just catch the first one you see and move on. Loved the first gen for this.

Trying to figure out what my team is gonna be. Any suggestions for the last team member, preferably early to mid-game? I'm probably going to replace Lunalla with Drifblim or Dhelmise (although I hear that's kind of late game), but I hear you get some exclusive dialouge if you take on the Champion with your version legendary.

The awful way that Zygarde's extra moves and formes were shoved into this game suggests to me that they'd planned on a Pokemon Z and then shelved it for some reason.

For the most part you still can, just for in game purposes (it's not like Gen 1 didn't have its equivalent of IVs / EVs ). You can breed to fix pretty much everything on most pokemon (apart from Hidden Ability access).

...why does Zygarde start at level 30 and not level 40. At that point in the game, most of your Pokemon should be in the high 30s/low 40s.

He's going to need to catch up now.

...and I still can't think of a nickname.

Xanadu maybe? Lief? Fenrir is too cliche? Thor? Loki?

Right now it's named Zegard and that's a dumb name. Not worthy of a viking snake dragon dog monster.
