I think 2v2 is extremely likely. 3v3 is too much for casual players (I've seen this first-hand), but 1v1 means it ain't MvC anymore.

Absolutely, because that would probably be a 3D fighting game. But I just can't see why Capcom would do that one or why it would happen now.
It kinda fits with some other leaks that this game didn't necessarily start as a MvC game, too.

TvC was 2v2, but it still had the tag assist system. This would be closer to MvC1, where it was tag with a separate assist character. I know that this sounds more appealing for the general audience, but it would miss Marvel's best feature and turn it into most anime fighters with assist.

I think I'd prefer assists coming from your tag partner too, but there's obviously more room for cameos and fanservice with the MvC1-style assist system so I can easily see why they'd go back to that.
as much as i would've liked to believe marvel cared enough to keep the xmen for marvel4, considering what has been said of their treatment in other games this wouldn't really surprise me

They gon buff all the weirdness out of Marvel. No Firebrand, no Shauma, no Linn Kurosawa or random ass characters. No X-men, either. You'll get your standard MCU heroes and villains(lol Loki and...?) and standard Street Fighter/Resident Evil/Monster Hunter/Devil May Cry stuff

The Capcom side may keep some of its weirdness, & there's still comic book characters like Squirrel-Girl & the new Ms. Marvel to keep things interesting. And while I sincerely hope that we won't lose the X-Men (plus Doom & Kl'rt), I do recognize that it's a very real possibility.

I could believe it if they're also bringing UMvC3 Remastered. Then they might want to differentiate them. Plus, if they want to make it more MCU-focused, having live-action movies as the basis could result in a more 'grounded' MvC.

Hm I've been hoping it'd be 2v2 so the game would be more approachable. Learning 3 separate characters in a chaotic game like Marvel was always very tough for me, espically when the series is so combo heavy. 3v3 wouldn't be a deal breaker by any means but 2v2 would be far more preferable for me. I also like the MvC1 assist system.
It means no characters that Fox can use, so none of those characters would be permitted. Hopefully it won't come to that, though. Also, Pietro & Wanda aren't mutants, anymore.
MCU vs. Capcom would be more apt, actually. There's still the Guardians, the Inhumans, the Defenders, the Champions, etc.
I mean will you have let's say ten times that you can call your assist vs Marvel 2 or 3 where it's unlimited.

Why not just have the Guardians show up during Star Lord's Super move? Rocket can still be playable though.

Yeah, I'm liking the idea of UMvC3 and MvC4 being sold as different experiences for different fans.
Different cooldown timing for assists. Making assist a limited time thing would suck real hard.
That's kind of why Marvel 3 simplified the controls from 2, going from 4 attack buttons to 3 buttons and Launcher/Misc attack and movement. Worked pretty well for the most part.

So MVC4, DMC5, and if the trademark was part of it onimusha. That's just a guess though and no detective work on that.
I wouldn't hate 2v2 but 3v3 literally multiplies the possibilities. 2v2 + Assists might be a roundabout way to better manage assist properties so they don't get another missiles by mistake, but still. Not a fan.
No X-Men though.. I hope this Malaysian animator or whatever just wasn't privy to all characters or is just assuming. d3v is usually on point, right? Might be worthwhile to temper expectations.
