Watch Dogs 2 PC performance thread

Yep, the activation key is in Uplay, when i check the activation code it says its already been added to my game library. I verified the files, when i tried to run the game again it installed directx and then proceeded to let me know it can't verify my game right now like before.

This is getting annoying.

Did Uplay install the game after you provided the key? Origin just downloads the install files to a temporary folder, then you open Uplay, activate the game and it will install the game+dependencies. Check if your Origin Game Installers folder still has the files.

overclocked 390x owner here. Can i play 1080p/60 without it looking like ass? Or should i go the 1440p/30 fps route?

2560x1080 and it cannot hold 60fps all the time in the open-world on Ultra/high settings, matters get worse when driving.

The game eats CPU for breakfast. Some of the site benchmarks have an 8 core system. It's crazy what they can do with the PS4/Pro version.

Well it only runs at 30 fps on the PS4 and PS4 Pro, it's not really doing anything special, the more powerful CPUs push higher frame-rates.

Watch Dogs 2 Anti Cheat System Blocks RTSS Overlay Software

Some users have been asking as to why the RTSS overlay (e.g. the statistics overlay software for Afterburner) is not working with Watch Dogs 2. Our in-house developer Unwinder today got cracking at it. Watch Dogs uses Anti Cheat software called EasyAntiCheat, which does a bunch of gnarly things even when you are not playing on-line.

We have some good and some bad news. The good news is that RTSS (the core component of the overlay software) simply can be white-listed by EasyAntiCheat, which apparantly was in the past. The bad news is that the makers of EasyAntiCheat have not been exemplary fast with updating their white-list with the new builds of RTSS, and actually have not been updating for the past 1 maybe 2 years. Unwinder figured out the following:

The anticheat system is the reason of missing overlay and it is indeed blocking RTSS, their online FAQ claim that they support RTSS overlay, however their own list of supported overlay versions seem to be very outdated (it lists RTSS 6.2.0 and 6.3.0, newest one is about 2 years old). If their internal whitelist database is as "fresh" as that online FAQ, then they'll block any unknown RTSS versions (i.e. RTSS 6.4.0 and higher, up to current 6.6.0 beta 2). And BTW, RTSS 6.3.0, which they document as whitelisted, indeed works with Watchdogs 2, I've just verified it myself.

So right now the only solutions are:

Wait for EAC update whitelisting current versions of modern overlay applications
Use outdated RTSS 6.3.0

So until somebody at "EasyAntiCheat" updates the white-list, your only alternative is to install an old build of RTSS. Typically an email from one website does not work to get heard. Hence we'd like to request the support of you guys to email them here: https://www.easyanticheat.net/contact/ and request they white-list the latest builds of RTSS. Please point them to this news-item to get the message across so that tens of thousands of game savvy end-users can enjoy the game with a proper overlay.

Still have my PS4 pro copy sealed, mixed impressions so far on this thread, either i pick up the pc version and lock to 4k30fps + temp. filtering or open up the ps4 copy, decisions decisions.

Great find.

Man, even with turning a lot of the settings down I can barely flirt with 60fps at 3440x1440 on my Titan XP and have it look decent. Maybe time for a new cpu

Anybody knows if there's a way to redeem the Samsung codes if you're in Canada? I got a code but the page tells me I'm not eligible.

Nvidia worked fine yesterday.

I had to set the install files somewhere else from the origin game folder. Before it was giving me an error saying there was not enough space when there was more than 1T of space. I left it downloading so hopefully that will fix it. The third time it downloads lol. I downloaded through Origin the first time, the second time through Uplay, and now this one.

My sweet spot on a 980ti with 4790k and 16Gb seems to be Very High with Ultra Textures and Filtering at 4K with TAA at 30fps.

60fps is too much of a compromised experience and I need to be at 4K to justify this version over PS4 Pro.

Use a US VPN/proxy to access the redemption page. The Uplay key itself is region-free.

Go temporal AA and not above Ultra on the shadows. Turn off San Fran fog. Still having problems after that?

Hmm, the low settings should save quite a lot of GPU resources, it's quite strange that you're having trouble hitting 60 fps.
I suppose you could still be GPU bound though.

It would be good to get MSI Afterburner working in this game to see if you're CPU or GPU bound, do you know the speed of your ram?

Sadly don't know the speed of my RAM. Also...I may have reformatted my computer. Now I seem to get a pretty consistent 60fps on the high preset in the open world.

I'm still not all that impressed with how this looks though.
I guess that's the temporal AA that's making it look all pixely. It reminds me of the Assassin's Creed Syndicate PS4 Pro patch screenshots.

edit: Or maybe I'm crazy and this looks fine? I swear it looks worse in motion than it does here.

Edit2. I spoke too soon lol. Performance still rough dropping into low 50s.

Ubisoft is usually good about patching their PC games for performance issues right? Might just drop this for a bit

There are issues now?

Last i read it looked like a solid port. Apart from me not being able to run it on Origin for weird reasons.

Any summary?

Nah you're not crazy.

Turns out temporal AA might have not actually been turned on in that shot
Didn't they mention that taking screenshots will not give you the full res? The guy from Nvidia mentioned it before in this thread.

took it with FRAPS, thats an uncompressed PNG

might not be any actual performance issues but it's not running as well as I'd hope for. The performance dips here remind me a lot of the first game

edit: Here's another shot I just took that I made sure I had temporal AA on, still high preset. Remember folks, this is two below the "max" preset Ultra.

oh ok. that looks real blurry tho. are you scaling up?

Have the game running in 1080p on my 1080p display.

I don't exactly know how temporal AA works but was someone saying it renders the game at a lower than native resolution and then applies 2xMSAA? Because I have that enabled.

Yea. I think that is why you're getting that blurryness. Im pretty sure your upscaling from 720 or something like that. That doesn't look like native res to me.

This is probably the first game where I'm not noticing stutter. I'm running it basically maxed out with all the bells and whistles (except for ultra shadows) at 1440p with temporal on and 1.15 pixel density, borderless and with vsync off (taking advantage of the triple-buffering) and I cannot for the life of me notice when the game goes into the low 50s or even high 40s. Everything still feels super smooth. Weird.

6600k (stock), GTX 1080, 16gb ram and SSD.

it doesn't matter what settings you use it's an ugly game. once you get past that it's a really fun one. i'm running everything on high on a 970 and a 2600k and it stutters quite a bit and constantly dropping to 50 while driving around the city. good enough to enjoy the game but i was expecting slightly better performance.

For some reason with the latest driver this game will not use my gpu overclock settings. According to afterburner graphs I'm getting vanilla core and memory speeds on my 980ti. The game performance has dropped accordingly compared to the previous driver (OC worked fine previously on a pre-release build with 375.95). That's a 10-15 fps drop on average across the board without my OC. Is anyone else having the same issue with their gpu overclock?

i'm still bummed at how shoddy the animations are. all kinds of clipping and funky stuff when moving about in this. Remember when traversal animations from AC were a game changer?

Feels like a regression.

So the game just bluescreened my PC after I bought the pants at the very beginning. haven't had one in ages. And since I ran it through BPM on my TV my whole display setup is borked now. Yay

10/10 would return if I hadn't been gifted the key

Steam settings are fucked too. PC gaming sometimes agh

I wonder if it's the shitty Anti Cheat solution they are using, these invasive crapwares are prone to be liable for crashes in my experience.

The game looks and plays great in my opinion (TF off). Driving is so much more responsive on PC, I can actually drive high speed without issue. Got one lockup during a co-op mission.

Does 376.09 have any benefits over 375.95?

i swear GTA5 looks and runs better than this, but maybe my mind is tricking me. haven't played that in a while.

no your mind isn't playing tricks.. its kind of crazy that Ubisofts open world games cant compete against GTA in any category (performance, graphics, story, driving, shooting, activities, etc) after so many attempts lol

So I am in the same boat as someone a couple posts ahead. i have a sealed copy for my new ps4 pro (bundle)

but i kinda like 60fps so will it be possible to play in 1080p 60fps with 2600k and GTX980?

Welp. I'm guessing that I won't buy this game anytime soon. I was thinking of using TriDef with it to play in 3D (However, I might have a workaround for that). Also, I wanted to run a trainer in single player, but I guess that is not happening either. Sigh.

Definately, 100%. You have a better card than me and I'm playing at 60fps at 1080p on high.

I have a problem with this game, anytime I quit the CPU remains almost at full load, that means of course that I cannot use Windows anymore and I am forced to reset (!) the whole PC. Anybody with a similar issue and maybe a solution?
