Wow that means that a few of our hypotheses are considered worst case scenarios...the phrasing made me chuckle. Nintendo's gonna be marketing so many devices, how will they tell or help people decide which unit they want, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, Ninty 3DS, Wii...
Some of your "hypothesis" are pretty dumb founded.

And well, all those devices have different characteristics no?

The DS line? not really. They barely push the Lite anymore.
It's like an apple product.

You can get a Nano, but for some more get more space, then a few more then a Video, then a larger one, and then a bit more and you get a Touch.

They don't have to "push" it, it's there for whoever wants it.

(I'd buy EXCITE boats :P)

Er...not really sure what you're getting at here. It's a worse case scenario to me because it's the highest I'm willing to pay for it. And no offense, but you seem to be the only person in this thread who thinks Nintendo will sell this in the +$250 range.

$199 is the absolute maximum price this thing is going to be. I've been saying it from the beginning.
I can appreciate you sticking to your guns but where is the rationale in pricing the system at $199 when it will just sell out immediately at that price point and end up getting resold in eBay auctions for $300-400 for the next year without Nintendo seeing any of that profit?

There is absolutely no price pressure being put on this device by Sony or Apple or anyone. If anything, the only price pressure that exists is from Nintendo's own profitable DS line where the XL continues to retail for $189.

Why would they undercut themselves by launching at $199?

Hell, if they're launching during the "disposable income" holiday months they should strongly consider $299.

Damn, I leave Tokyo for home (after 2 week holiday) 2 days before this announcement. If they go ahead and say its out, tomorrow (September 30, which rings a bell in my head for some reason) in Japan, I will be devastated.

Maybe in a world where the currency exchange rate wasn't shit.

They won't.

Now user may call may proposition for pricing ridiculous, preposterous, crazy even, but to settle for $199 being the 'absolute maximum price'?!

I think the global economy will cause them to go over $200, as well as sinking sales in several aspects of the company. Being driven by profit that can increase the amount of money they want to bring in on the unit by selling for higher. And I think Ive said it enough times, but Ill just say it again: consumers, commonfolk, media, are all excited about the device and are willing to pay upwards of $299 for this end all mass multi-media, electronics, handheld videogame playing system.

So one slider is a definite huh? Have fun with your twin stick shooter ports watered down to work with only one. You guys can get pointers on how to cope with that from PSP owners.:lol

That'd be just a short term profit, and quickly dropping the price would send the message to consumers that

a) They were being ripped off at launch
b) Their products devaluate very quickly
b.1) People will wait for price drops

It's a very good position to be in, and certainly not good publicity.

Just as an example that 1 analog FPS is possible to do well, not that PSP has done it.

There aren't that many FPS games on portables anyway.

Then again, I think all of the DS ones use the bottom screen as a mouse, so it kinda is like a twin-stick shooter.

Touch screen to aim camera, analog stick to move.
Seems fine to me.
MPH controlled really well.

If only the 3DS had some kind of touch interface, all would be solved.

hey wait a second metroid prime hunters already happened on the DS

Not that I've played MPH. Does that control scheme work well?

Yes, but better if you used the thumbstick, actually, is confirmed one for the 3DS?.

I thought it worked well enough. Similar to a kb/m setup.

If an unproven peripheral camera with bad reputation can go for $150, the successor of the most popular handheld ever can sure go for $250.

Also, they launch with Kid Icarus and Ocarina of Time 3DS.

Since Starfox is also just a port that will probably also make it for launch.

No way do they launch with all three of those games at once. I don't think we'll even see two of those on the same day.

They'll launch with Kid Icarus and some other smaller games, I'm thinking Pilotwings and Steel Diver. Maybe Nintendogs.

I'm aware that Nintendo doesn't do stuff there, but what actually caused it?
My understanding is that Sony originally set up the show and Nintendo eschewed it permanently and that tradition has stuck even after it changed hands. That's what I've heard at least. I don't know if that's true.

Point is they avoid it like the plague. Except for that one Iwata keynote.

$199.99 or else if they feel the need to push over that they'll go for $229.99 as a comprise between the 200-250 price range sort of like the DSL selling at $130 now.

$250 just seems to be pushing it IMO.

I wouldn't mind 249.99 if it came with a game...=/ If the 3DS is coming out this holiday, I sadly will not be buying Move.

It'll likely be sub $200 and come with a demo and a preview of a 3D movie.
There's no way they're going to charge over $200 for this device at launch.

I disagree it's gonna be anywhere from 249 to 299 and if it's 299 than It's not gonna sell near as much as people think because over 200 dollars for it is overpriced IMO.

It probably will be 249 for just the system and 299 for the system and a game.
