You really believe they're just going to leave a black eye on a mainline entry Final Fantasy game? Thats like saying every AAA multiplayer game with server issues fixed those issues out of love. Games aren't cheap to develop. If they can take a few months to increase the profits of a game they spent years on why wouldn't they? They're just smart enough to realize this fact. Final Fantasy XV is an ongoing investment for them. They still have DLC and other products associated with the game to sell.

It has mistakes but at least it is trying to remedy them unlike others that drop it and leave it once they're done. If they didn't update the game people. Complain, they update the game and people complain. There is no pleasing everyone.
 
10 years and they didn't finish the story.

Feel bad for anyone that rushed to finish this one day one and had a negative experience due to plot holes.

Technical bugs fixed by patch are fine, but patching to fill in the story is pretty awful.

Glad I asked for this at xmas. I'll wait for the directors cut, because Batman vs Superman was a lot better with the plot holes filled.

This I can agree with, Ardyn's motivations are foggy at best to me.
 
The only story content hinted at in his message is this:

Updating the production of the second half of the game, further enhancing the experience of the story. For example, we are planning to add event scenes where “What happened to Ravus?” was from. In addition to the event scenes, voice responses and localization work to all languages will occur so we will work firmly on this as a mid-term goal. Details of the plan will be announced once it’s decided.

This sounds like clarification, not magically fixing your problems with the story. I think several users here have been trying to point that out. If you don't like the story that's fine, that's the product of messy development no doubt. But it's not "unfinished."

Just pointing out it isn't hyperbole for people to be upset about the story. If that is what someone is looking for in a game then they have every right to be ticked off that the story was incomplete and they plan on patching it in months later. You are informed of major plot points in loading screens, there's no hyperbole in that.

There are games that receive polish, more content, etc after release. I'm not sure I've ever seen a game fix a story after release.

For the record, I love the Open World and really dig the game because I don't care about stories. But it is an interesting talking point about what a hot mess it is and that they plan on fixing the story in a patch in a couple months for a game that has been in development for 10 years.

Just keep playing. Whatever minor changes this will be you can catch on YouTube if they are any good.

The rest of these sound like post game content.

And who do they have to blame for that?

At any rate, as I've said before this is a waste of time and resources. They should forget about story and just focus on making better and more varied gameplay contents, cause that's where the game shines. As oppose to its story which is just a mess.

They should have known how "ad the story telling was in the first place and delayed the damn thing to add in these story elements. It's really apparent to everyone that this game has story issues and even to the developers themselves. The first patch added cutscenes to make the story make more sense. I mean they weren't oblivious to the issue, but they just pushed it out. 10 years of waiting I would have waited a few more months to get a complete story where the developers are satisfied with it.

Its hyperbole when people say things like "60$ for early access", that's dumb on so many levels. I am not too pleased with the story presentation and I've been one of the first people to complain about it, but seeing them address it is great. Sure, I would've preferred the entire game to be released without these kinds of patches but I will take what I can get.

And BTW ME3 patched a better ending when people complained about the original ending, TW3 did it too when people complained about not having enough Triss scenes.

You want to wait 4 or 5 months for it? What if you wait and the shit they had is not worth or still leaves us in the dark and does not fix all the plot holes this fucking game have? Just finish it and if you have the time play it again in the suposed new game plus.
 
Ok, I scarcely know what's going on with this because I haven't been following what people are saying about the game. The only thing I've seen is that the game is seemingly missing some content later on. They're going to fix that? How long will that take?

I'm only about four hours into the game. Should I stop and play something else for a while and come back to this once they've patched it? It's like Mass Effect 3 all over again - part of me wishes I had waited a year on that game and played it with the patches and DLC.
 
As someone who enjoyed the game from start to finish this has me excited. I look forward to playing a better version of this game in the coming months.

Still trying to find that "FF feeling" the majority of reviews make sure to higlight instead of the mess of a game it is. Debate with friends, etc.

They should forget about fixing the story, fix the gameplay so at least people can properly have fun playing with the most basic thing, the combat.

Dont worry mate. I put 97 hours into xenoblade chronicles because it had xeno in the name and I refused to admit I wasnt having fun.

Maybe one day I can move past this "finish what I start" problem and drop more games before completion

I guess we all thought it was gonna be a mess to a certain extent, i was'nt expecting this, not after 10 years in development. And no, this did'nt started in 2013 with Tabata, it started 10 years ago, most of the concepts, story, mechanics, etc, were there a long time before Tabata, he just tried to complete it and failed.
 
This is a joke, Tabata. You're saying I've been playing your game's beta until now?

This whole patch culture is ruining gaming. I would give a lot of things in exchange for knowing I can grab a game at a store and be able to play the same thing as everybody at every moment of time without having to download anything.

Keep in mind the "short term" fix is just adjusting the damage you deal in a late game chapter to try and make it less of a hassle. Sadly, that's not the reason people almost unanimously detest that section of the game.

Any story changes are mentioned as mid and late term patches, and they'll likely only add cutscenes, not change the game drastically or add sections of the game that were completely cut. So it's probably not worth worrying about too much.

as the lead and
Iris
as a support character. It could be set in the
first year of the World of Ruin, as Aranea redeems herself for her servitude under Niflheim by mentoring Iris to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic world, shaping her into the formidable d(a)emon-slayer she becomes 10 years later.

It could also serve to help regain the trust of XIII fans let down by XV if they bring back Toriyama as a guest writer, given his evident proficiency at sisterly relationship dynamics and female camaraderie; seen in X-2, the XIII saga and The 3rd Birthday. His unique style is exactly what the universe of XV is missing.

I personally thought nearly everything from 9 to the end of the game works conceptually, the shift in structure is risky but it propels the story forward. The framework is solid and the conclusion is satisfying. A few of scenes and locations could stand to be reworked and the game needs better context throughout the entire story to live up to its potential, but it's not a let down aside from a tedious late game dungeon.
 
Finishing the game and having a negative opinion on it due to plot holes won't be fixed by just filling the gaps later by watching a youtube clip.

When is this patch due? If it's any time soon, due to all the CG, I can only assume it was preplanned to do it post-launch.
 
Not surprising that Tabata's games are always solid gameplay but poor story presentation. I had hoped FFXV would break the trend...

is there something wrong with me? I thought this game was great minus that one long ass drawn out chapter, it's the type of game i can replay, oddly i went through all of this game and i haven't finished witcher yet, lol.

I dunno I enjoyed everything about it, i'll probably come back to check out the extra stuff later.

No, it's a messy game that went through development hell and still ended up good, but flawed. They likely didn't even know what they actually had until late in the process, and it could be great with more work.

Persona 3 was not a beta, and everyone loved and welcomed FES. Who wouldn't I be happy that they see the potential as well and will continue to work to deliver on it?

The overall story is not going to change. It is just going to add some cutscenes about a side character who, ultimately, doesn't affect the outcome of the game at all.

People are blowing this wayyyyy out of proportion.
