Super Mario Run 10M+ downloads Day 1, over $4M revenue, biggest Appstore launch ever.

It's evident that people either don't understand the mobile market or they don't understand that nintendo liscenes still have resinance--judgeing from the fact that their stock fell.

Man, I really think this will help the Switch. Look at the boost that Go gave Sun/Moon. I'm starting to believe the rumor of Switch launching with Mario instead of Zelda is as much a strategic move instead of a required development move.

Someone tweeted yesterday that Super Mario Wii is charting again on amazon. Nintendo's plan is working.

Just reinforces that people would love to play Nintendo games, just not on Nintendo's terrible hardware.
DS, 3DS and Wii say hi.

Sometimes they have home runs.

This brand exposure is a good thing. Nintendo had a bad beat, yet it's hard to tell these days. It' looks like they're back.

For the type of game they designed around, it's good. I forked out the $10. Could do without the always online crap though. You're just not going to find a solid data connection on large chunks of the area I ride through for work.

They also got a lot of cross promotion with Apple.

It was all over the AppSore. Retail Apple Stores had workers with Mario pins, etc.

Since when is Super Mario Run a full Super Mario experience? And didn't Nintendo just have its fastest selling titles in America ever, after releasing a mobile game in the same series?

I'm expecting the goal posts to be moved. "See! it's falling out of the top 10" when the inevitable spend cap saturation hits in a week or two.

Really? Doesn't the NES Classic Mini sell because of the "terrible" hardware?

You'd think the performance of Pokemon Sun and Moon would be enough to convince people that this is a very good plan, right?

It's a very, very smart, calculated plan by Iwata and I think this is going to play out very well for the Switch.

Nice try.

Im being serious - obv. is still a big number but i thought those were +2m paid/unlocked versions first. So good...but we just dont know how good/impressive the number is.

Mario + free would always have big download numbers, we need to know how many are actually buying it.

Well let see if it helps selling their console games.

That's their plan for mobile.

Also it's time to make Warioware after you release FE and animal crossing.

My face when my local paper had an article on the app but used a picture of SMB3 (although they did say what game it was, they should have just used an image of the actual app) and also claimed it was the first Nintendo app (completely disregarding Go and Miitomo)

I give it 1 week before it falls out top 10 WW, but the freeze on the App Store will save it. :3

So it being downloaded that much is impressive, do they list numbers on how many people bought it? I would be more interested in that because with it being IAP. I would be interested in the sales.

Only Nintendo and Apple know those numbers. The most we can do is look at the self-reported daily revenue of the other apps/games in the top grossing to estimate a baseline.

PEOPLE WOULD RATHER PLAY GAMES ON HARDWARE THEY ALREADY OWN INSTEAD OF SPENDING MORE MONEY ON NEW HARDWARE

Does Kimishima know about this? We have to tell him!

Do people really think casual gamers didn't buy a Wii U because of the hardware?

Like what planet are you on? Do you really think soccer moms and kids gave a shit that the Wii was underpowered?

Would love to see Nintendo exit the portable hardware biz and put all of their stuff on the AppStore.

Pokémon Go released when everyone was either getting ready to go out or go to sleep and it was so popular at the immediate moment of launch that servers didn't work at all until the next day and still struggled for weeks after. I remember because some rando at the bar I was at yelled out that the game was up on the App Store and everyone started downloading it 😒😒😒

As I said, it's no Pokémon Go. Closer to Miitomo if anything.

It's doing worse than a free internet radio app

Mario has always been powerful and relevant. He's had his ups and downs over the years, but he's never stopped being an industry titan, no matter where he is. The argument over whether Mario or Pokemon is bigger is going to be very fun over the next few years. Of course Nintendo wins either way, so I think they're just happy seeing people excited for their brands.

When the games aren't tied to their pitiful hardware, yea Nintendo is still by far the most popular entity in this industry.

Except Pokemom Sun/Moon were also tied to their pitiful hardware and that had the highest debut in franchise history. So perhaps this isn't as cut and dry as you "Nintendo should go third party" types would like to think.
