OK, so I'm probably going to pick up the 30XS955 tomorrow. After extensive measuring of my tiny-ass bedroom, i realized it wouldn't be a good idea to get the Sony 34XBR960.

I'm going on the assumption that the TV is going to cost me between $1000 and $1200 or so, and I'll have to pick up the stand for it for $250 or thereabouts.

All told, since I'm not getting the XBR (because og room size and douches at work cutting my hours. GRR) I can spend about $1500-$1600 on a TV + stand without problem.

Is there a better television purchase to put this $1500 towards?

Note: I'll be using the TV for Xbox 360 for the time being. 1080i is fine, as the system will internally scale to that resolution without problem. I'd like to make sure the TV is as future proof as possible, as well.

I'll send a foot to your face motherfucker. GOD YOU MAKE ME HORNY WITH YOUR AVATAR! I WANT TO PUMMEL YOUR FACE WITH CUM!

This thread is now NSFW

That's as good as it gets for a CRT... I just hate how the TV looks on the outside.

While I don't have an HDTV, I've really been thinking of getting as my 2001 32" RCA junker is slowly dying. I have to turn contrast and black level up to their maximum just to get a bright picture. This makes the picture bleed and when I watch dark movies like Lord of the Rings, I can't see shyt! =P

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of research. If you want to find the best TV for your loot, you should use pricegrabber.com. If you enter your zip code, it will show how much a TV will cost after shipping and tax. Sometimes it will find stores that will ship free and won't won't tax you. (there's also www.pricescan.com but I don't know how good they are as I've only discovered it yesterday)

Since TV reviews are difficult to come by sometimes, when you've found a TV you're considering, go over to www.avsforum.com. You'll have to register, but it's pretty painless. Do a search in the forums for that TV model and you'll get a lot of info on it from people who own it. You can pretty much get any question you want about a TV answered there.

Lastly, I've learned a nice nugget of information. If you have the space and you're willing to put up with the bulk, rear-projection(don't worry about burn-in, avsforum.com has a nice thread that tells you how to prevent burn-in and even how to fix it if it does manage to happen) CRT based HDTVs are falling in price like crazy due to DLP models(I think). This led me to consider this model . If you're in the market for a rear-projection TV, keep your eyes on the CRT based ones over the next couple of months to a year. You'll find a nice deal some where to hold you over until the nanotubes cometh! :lol

No chance you'd wait 7 days to see if you can take advantage of a Thanksgiving sale? You're close enough now where waiting isn't very painful.

Are there going to be good sales?

If you can confirm it for me, I'll definitely wait.

Good advice.

Only catch there is 34" is the largest.

yes, but I'm looking for display quality.

How is the quality on RP CRTs? Will it compare to the XS955? The XS has SuperFinePitch, so I'll be getting 1400 lines.

I've got the 34XBR960 and it's got a gorgeous picture. I can't possibly recommend against a set that uses the same tube technology.

Yea, if I had just a bit more space in my room, I'd be forking over the cash for the 34. It's unfortunate they don't make a 30" model, or I'd be all over that.

For reference, here's pictures of the wall where I'd be putting the TV:

Use the Xbox as a scale, and you can see it's not much room to work with.

And don't comment on the terrible speaker setup. Can't do anything else with the small space I have.

lol!

I'd be really excited if I was getting a HDTV coming from that.

The current TV sucks ass, yea. No composite inputs or anything, even. I have to use my VCR to play Xbox. It's terrible.

I've got a busted stereo TV on the floor next to my bed, but you can't see it in the pictures.

Nothing is absolutely confirmed until they actually release the paper next week, and even then some local sales and deals I won't have access too. One thing is certain though, the BlackFriday sales and general Thanksgiving sales are the absolute best prices you're likely to get for several months at least.
