I really wish we could just get a Constantine show on The CW. Is this CW Seed snow gonna be 5 minutes an episode, kind of like Vixen S1?

I'm happy about the renewals on The CW.

Even though I'm still watching Supernatural it honestly isn't worth a binge watch. We're at the point where there are more bad/mediocre episodes of the show than there are good ones. There's too much other great TV to watch hundreds of episodes of it now.

JTV being renewed is not a surprise. CEG is.

Not really. When it comes to ratings The CW, being what it is, there's a lot of room even if U.S. Ratings aren't so great, this has been pretty clear the last few years with Pedowitz in charge, they're looking beyond Nielsen ratings.

Apparently quote from Mark Pedowitz from the TCA.
"It has nothing to do with numbers," Pedowitz said. "'Crazy Ex,' ‘Jane,' as franchises, have helped alter the perception of what the CW has become. When you have great critical work, critically acclaimed, award-nominated show like ‘Crazy,' it deserved to be picked up. Sometimes with critically acclaimed, great programming, you just [renew it] and hope that it finds an audience. In today's fragmented world, [awards nominations] give you a calling card."

- THR: CW President Defends 'Crazy' Renewal, Talks Limited Fall Freshman Runs and 'Charmed' Reboot.
Defending Crazy

Pedowitz defended his decision to renew Rachel Bloom's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for a third season. While Bloom is nominated for a Golden Globe at Sunday's show, her series ranks as broadcast's lowest-rated program. The executive noted the renewal had "nothing to do with numbers," and stressed that Crazy has helped "alter the perception of what The CW has become." "When you have great critical work on a critically acclaimed nominated show like Crazy, it deserves to be picked up," he said, recalling his tenure at ABC when he wished he could have continued Eli Stone and October Road. "Critically acclaimed, great programming — sometimes you just leave it on the air and hopefully it finds an audience," he said. "I'm hoping that happens and if it doesn't, I'll have no regrets about renewing the series." He added that positive buzz from shows like Crazy and the recently renewed Jane the Virgin — whose star Gina Rodriguez is also up for a Globe on Sunday — has helped "re-energize the network."

Yeah, I'm not going to doubt its renewal anymore. CEG's ratings are pretty much rock bottom and they don't care due to on-demand watching and critical acclaim. CW is pretty much the only network that does this. Kudos to them.

Still think No Tomorrow and Frequency are done for though. They just don't have the same acclaim as JTV and CEG.

Barring a Netflix miracle they're definitely done which is too bad, I enjoyed both despite the latter getting dumb with dragging things out.

Freshman fall offerings No Tomorrow and Frequency recently became the first series since Emily Owens, M.D., to not score full-season orders. Pedowitz noted that neither series were designed to go beyond their initial 13-episode orders... Both shows remain in contention for May renewals with insiders paying close attention to No Tomorrow and Frequency's performance on Netflix and its other digital platforms.

like honestly, blow it out your ass, and this isn't even bitterness--cancel everything, especially my favourite shows, i am nonplussed about the fate of any given show, but why say something that is so obviously not true?

CW seem like a really fucking smartly run network tbh

They look at alllll the numbers

Yeah, they seem to understand that Netflix matters these days. People flock to some shows after they've binged it there. I'm convinced that's the secret to the longevity of Grey's Anatomy.

Really happy to see them keep some shows around because it improves the overall image of the network too. Very forward thinking. Now renew iZombie before people start mailing jello brains to their offices.

Jane the Virgin hardly gets better ratings. It got a 0.37 average last season, versus Crazy Ex's 0.3. They both get renewed for the same reasons: critical darlings produced by CBS, that also do good on online platforms.

For that one, I actually think it might be the other way around. It is loosely connected enough to let you watch any episode without needing what was before so you don't need to binge. I think it is why Scandal and How To Get Away are losing while Grey's Anatomy remains stable.

But what if the planned ending for No Tomorrow, is really the world ending? That seems definitive lol

JTV has always gotten significantly better ratings considering how low both of them are. But yeah, I see that CW simply just isn't like all the other networks when it comes to renewal considerations.

I have suggested before that it turns into a The 100 prequel.

I would enjoy that as an ending. I heard a rumor about a recent film that has a tie into another movie. Without spoiling anything I am always fine with callbacks to other movies/shows.

Pedowitz got Stump hot.

Don't worry Stump, the superhero-themed thread title change you've got brewing could see some use still. When does ABC announce their renewals?

They have their TCA session(s) on Tuesday, so either tomorrow night or early Tuesday we'll see a couple.

I still feel sad that there isn't a TCA reactions podcast anymore. I still don't get why Feinberg or Sepinwall don't do one after all this time.

I need to know what food these networks are serving to critics!

I miss those, as well. I remember them mentioning it was something to do with a deal not working out between HR and HitFix, but never really detailed why. They kind of did one back in the summer, so hopefully one magically pops up when they're in the same space again this week.

The IGN TV podcast went into network food talks from time to time!

Ohh yeah! I forgot that ABC will do early renewals now that Paul Lee isn't there anymore (thank god). I never understood why they waited till May to announce renewals in the first place.

I didn't even check the feed, they just randomly put up a summer episode? Weird. lol

I don't get why Goodman won't let the Berg on his show though. He's been on once and never again. And of course Sepinwall shows up randomly on stuff like EHG or the two Ryans show, but he could always start his own podcast...

The IGN podcast is okay except a) it's like 90% nerd culture shows and b) it comes out like once every five months.

Haha, yeah, the IGN podcast is super rare nowadays, since they're not in the same city anymore.

Yeah, the summer episode was at the ATX Festival in Austin I believe? It was done like an old episode, though! I'm guessing with the intense amounts of shows now, some are not crediting podcasts as worthy of time maybe, although it is always my favorite way to learn about shows and such. Hopefully it all figures itself out.

Crazy Ex got renewed because it's a CBS show. Anything else Pedowitz says is spin.

While that's definitely at the top of the checklist, it isn't the only box that CXG manages to tick.

It's the best spin Pedowitz can give, guys. They all have to do it. What do you want him to say?

"Your lives lay balanced on the edge of a razor and the precise depth and angle of cut are determined by the capricious whims of a mad god."

.. you know, actually I think I'd prefer that.

Last year, the Golden Globes got 5.5s all night.

Too bad we didn't get any casting announcements for Runaways, if it's supposed to start filming next month. Hopefully we hear something about Cloak and Dagger at Freeform's on Tuesday, since that too is supposed to start filming in February.

Weird, I should download it although I guess it's pointless old news now.
And yeah, it's easier for me to just listen to an hour of TV news than to read their various blogs at this point. Particularly if I just want the news. Oh well, as it stands EHG and Tim Goodman are the only semi-regular insider TV podcasts, and I don't really love either of them.
