Battery life. Low estimate is 2.5hrs. That's from new. After, say, 500 cycles (as raised elsewhere, a lithium battery with a short life is going to reach that number quickly), what's it going to be capable of?

With the battery life and size of this thing I wouldn't even consider it a portable at this point. It's not a handheld it's a homeheld. You ain't leaving your house to play this. It's a tablet with better controls.

Had every Nintendo console since the snes. I used to think mario and zelda was enough but after the wii and wii u being expensive paper weights I think my time here is done

Damn Nintendo.. just damn.

I really wanted them to knock it out of the park with this thing, I have bought every single Nintendo at launch and I want to do the same with this but after this presentation I just can't I'm sorry Nintendo you lost me.

I am picking up Zelda on my Wii U and waiting until christmas for Mario. IF mario galaxy 1 and 2 taught me anything the entire cost of a Nintendo console can be summed up by how good it's 3d mario was. Sorry ninty, but I am sitting out launch.

DISCLAIMER!!

If zelda looks like ass on the wii u I will buy a switch at launch. You know what you must do Nintendo >_>.

ARMS IS FUCKING 60 DOLLARS

HOW

Arms at least has graphics, how the fuck is a free iPhone game like 1,2 switch 49.99 Lol!!

The thing that bugs me is that the Wii U went barren for like the last year. And this conference is all they had to show in terms of software?

Really, and totally seriously, where are the games?

Same shit they did with the Wii U. We were expecting this amazing lineup after the wii being dead for years, instead we got Nintendoland....

I'll see with some distance over all that but to me wow..

The big problem i see is that the Switch
_Won't even touch Wii kind of fad with mainstreams. 12Switch has ZERO appeal, at least the way they showed it.
_Won't obviously touch the PS4/XBO market but we knew that already
_The "will it replace 3DS" question is even more uncertain now to me... With the price.. And don't talk to me about value. For that demographic it's not about value it's about price entry point. 3ds was too expansive at 250$... This is ridiculous. I still think there is a catch here. They have something else planned.

Also that Zelda trailer was insane but.. it felt weird to me. There is something ... worrying about it. About the way Nintendo has been focusing so much on that game for so many years. And when they reveal their new console, in a worldwide conference, the peak of it is still that game, that was made for the console before it. It's like Nintendo killed itself doing that game to a point there is nothing left around...

After all we heard, after the problem they had with the WiiU soft, their need to arrange their organization etc.. We're here in 2017, with their late new system, and nothing is ready for launch... That's amazing.

Yeah, that is bizarre. I assumed they were moved to Switch launch so that they'd have an amazing lineup, but..

You know what would've been nice to see, considering this is supposed to be a "hybrid" console? Some unique/niche handheld launch titles. Maybe a Switch version of Rhythm Heaven Megamix, or 3D Picross, or a new Pushmo-style game. Being able to play console games on the go is nice, but if this is replacing their handheld division they need to bring the fucking thunder.

Because they don't want to offer voice chat via the console, maybe for technical/OS reasons, or maybe for VERY Nintendo reasons, like them thinking that this will prevent kids from chatting with adults because kids don't use cell phones or something. Like, would you really put it past Nintendo to do something this backwards? Or is it somehow more likely that the system can do voice chat, but they are just not mentioning it and also offering this totally secondary (and worthless, because, you know, the system can already do it natively) smart device app, and on their own FAQs, ONLY mentioning the smart device app? At what point does the most likely answer become the right one?

Again, by that logic the app is worthless either way because Switch can do everything it can do (outside of voice chat).

You might be right, but I'm just saying it seems unclear given the wording, it makes little sense, and given Nintendo have a voice/video chat app on WiiU.

(NB: Your argument about "kids don't use cell phones" being a plausible 'Nintendo' reason for this goes out the window when you remember Pokemon Go exists. On Mobiles only)

In short, just chill till we know more or have confirmation.

Dunno, me and my friends who were watching this thought that, apart from the price and the online, was a cool show.

I guess we'll see what's up on March 3rd.
It was abit boring in spots but ultimately I'm happy with the showing. the price is actually fine and I don't play many games concurrently so I'm more than okay having Zelda and a region free Dragon Quest Heroes at launch.

I am buying this primarily for the portability factor though.

2.5 hours sure seems like a good amount of time to be out of the house...

I'm honestly not shocked at GAF's reactions. I think for a portable device that has great graphics, its great, but obviously batter life is still questionable. I think Nintendo should've marketed it towards the portable crowd as the console crowd is more finnicky and more people comparing this to the PS4, etc. This machine should sell well, as I'm betting more portable crowds will buy it as this is the 3DS successor.

Oh, I know that a lot of 3DS owners will no doubt go to the Switch. I'm one of them, and the games lineup is extremely promising.

I just refuse to endure the droughts, so I'm working on my backlog until this picks up momentum. You should also recognize that the price of Switch will be a major barrier for the mass market crowd.

I guess Nintendo doesn't even want or need Switch to shift big units as long as they don't actually lose money.

Legit, this is what most shocks me. This was supposed to be the culmination of 2 years of Nintendo being hard at work moving everything to the Switch. This should be the best of the Wii U and best of the 3DS lineup together.

When it comes to quantity this was practically just the equivalent of a typical Wii U direct.

Man I must be crazy cuz I'm hyped by what I saw. Arms, splatoon 2 and Mario odyssey look amazing, the price is reasonable (I was rooting for 250) and the joycons look really really cool. I know I'm waaay out of the gaming mainstream nowadays (I'm a fucking fossil) but I think this product has some real appeal. I don't think it will suffer the same fate as the Wii U at least. Hm don't really know what to think except that I'm getting one, lol.

Okay lmao, well now that I've seen their online policies my tune has severely changed. Tacked on games I don't want to justify a higher price point was something I was already tired with while on PS+, but one free game I definitely won't care about? And for a month?

Man just... I mean Zelda looks great! I'm certainly more positive than most but that is just awful. Fingers crossed for a low price at least?

I have a pre-order at Best Buy.

I want a new super dope portable to play on long international flights. I am thinking the lineup is going to have me cancel this and just play my 3DS.

The question seems to be, do I want to pay 400 dollars for a Zelda game I can get on my Wii U along with an upgraded Mario Kart I already own. Because that's all I care about till Summer.

My mind is still boggled as well , what's going on over at Nintendo 0_o
Did everyone work on Zelda or something ?

You know I really can't get over the fact that Nintendo made a VIDEO game where they tout the fact that you don't have to look at the screen as a feature. It sounds like an Onion article.

The wording only seems unclear to you because it's not telling you what you want to hear. Again, if the Switch could do voice chat and party natively, in the OS, what exactly would be the point of the App? And more importantly, what would be the point of only mentioning said app as a means of doing it? It's pretty clear from their wording as well as their bullet point chart that the App will be necessary for voice chat and party invites.

Stream was meh, but I'm going to buy the switch though maybe not at launch. Mario looks amazing, but sadly it's not a launch title. The only title that I'm willing to pick up with it on launch is Zelda, and that's if it's a huge improvement over the Wii U version.

Yesterday I was ready to preorder on the assumption of $250, Zelda at launch, free online, and a better launch line up/launch window line up.

After tonight, I know I don't need to buy a Switch day 1 and may even hold off until holiday or after the holidays. Nintendo did not do a good job of selling me on their new console at all. Maybe tomorrow's Treehouse stream will change that.

weird conference.

like I expected Mario and Zelda, wii U ports and myabe one new game....and got that (and more)...and yet even I know that was a poor start for the console.

the price is a bit too high. the launch lineup is ass and the window is weirdly spaced out (next "big" game being a wii U update is not the best idea....). Pay for online is expected nowadays sadly but since this is Nintendo, you have to worry about the worth (and price).

Those are some big bummers man. not for me. I'm a whore that was going to buy it no matter what plus I have other consoles with big games dropping that month and the next...so I'll have games to play anyway.

But for those who don't have that luxury to throw money away? Why would you buy a switch?

thats bad longterm. Potentially Wii U bad. The saving grace is that Mario IS coming. I also suspect Pokemon Sun to hit this year too. So it won't be as droughty but thats bad.

It really sucks because now the negativity will hit an all time high. Going to have to control my urge to call people out on that and not get banned.....

I am weirdly hyped but also let down. Anexity is in a bad spot right now.

got dat best buy preorder doe.

It's possible, not likely but possible, that they wanted to keep this presentation at an hour, so they only showed stuff they thought absolutely needed to be showed. We didn't see the MK8 trailer for example.

So it's possible they have way more in the pipeline, but they just didn't want a two hour show here. It's stupid, but it's Nintendo.

EDIT: Nintendo is editing information in real time.
This is terrible. The only game I care about on that list is Mario... And before the presentation I thought that this was going to be first Nintendo console I get at launch.

The thing that bugs me is that the Wii U went barren for like the last year. And this conference is all they had to show in terms of software?

Exactly. The pipeline doesn't seem too optimised. The have precise release dates just for 3 1st party games.

$300, no pack in, no Mario at launch, paid online, and no VC talk are all bummers. Having said that, I still pre-ordered because it's a new console and I have issues.

I'm on my honeymoon and forgot about this Switch stuff tonight...what's the best round-up thread? There's seemingly a hundred threads going concurrently.
