Why do you care what random gafer does to protest? Are you bugged that Trump is being protested or that what they are doing isn't good enough? I mean who cares. Not everybody is capable of going out and marching in a public place. Let them protest in their own way.

I agree that the more productive the better.
 
A number of my fellow Zen Buddhist friends will be marching in the Women's March in DC and New York.

Unfortunately I am back in PA, so all I can do is cheerlead my compassionate friends, and those with like minded goals and values.

I really can't stress that enough. Anything you say WILL be used against you. You don't have to be a dick about it, but for the love of everything just be quiet.

If you are given the option to Post and Forfeit, you pay a fine, the charges are dropped, you do not admit guilt, but an arrest DOES show up on your record. Please keep this in mind and be safe.

That's all we can do. I'm not condoning doing anything to get you to that situation, but if the people around you suddenly start something and you're caught in the crossfire, there isn't a lot you can do once people start getting cuffed. Best to be prepared and to know your rights.

I'm not. Why is it OT has become so hostile towards any sort of dissenting opinions lately? Last I checked there was no rule stating you had to be a democrat to post here. OT used to be fairly sane and civil whilst gaming side was the explosive side. What changed?

Trump won the election. That shouldn't be hard to figure out. This isn't just some conservative GOP president. This is a very dangerous man. Of course people are on edge.

Because one of the political parties in the US decided it wanted to ruin millions of people's lives as their primary purpose to exist. The entire party decided its mission statement was going to be one of bigotry, and it's basically indefensible.

Imagine this conversation

"I'm a Republican, GAF, I just want lower taxes"

"You view your money as more important than my rights to marry the love of my life?"

"Uhh... well no, you see, I mean uhhh"

Just want to again point out that for any of us, this is not a partisan issue, it is a Trump issue.

There are certainly a few admitted Republicans that post and are equally disgusted by Trump. I take more issue with people being disingenuine about their support of Trump than I do with their support of Trump though.

I welcome honest discussion.

Still doesn't fly because Trump will cut tax to the top 20% so they still look like idiots supporting him expecting cuts.

They got completely conned, I have no sympathy but they'll support him anyway

The real risk with protests within the United States is that there will be right-wing radicals attempting to destabilize them with violence that they can then blame on the left and effectively tarnish anyone that is peacefully demonstrating for just reasons.

Maybe he has a working brain but his biggest issues are high healthcare deductibles or has been subjected to too many regulations in his small business.

One of the most depressing nights of my life. I had to face both my Step father and Brother who just the day before I got into an argument with about how illegals were going to steal the election for Hillary and that it's all a sham anyway because "who really is checking for fraud, the government lol". The irony of Trump winning despite their claims was lost on them. All they wanted to do was rub it in my face that Crooked Clinton lost.

Good times.
 
I can't be the only one drinking for this thing can I? I miss the debates where many on gaf would get together and drink and just make fun of it all.

Well I'll be here. I know it's early but maybe others will join me tomorrow.

I'm personally not one to take pictures, but I will make an exception for this march and step out of my comfort zone. I'll try my best to take some pics as well as share first-hand impressions post march later this weekend. My heart is heavy and I'm very anxious currently. I hope shit doesn't hit the fan with instigators and protestors taking the bait. Just so damn anxious right now leading up to Saturday.

Because people are finally waking up to the fact that Republican policies are a sham and are sick of getting their rights trampled on. There is no defending the modern Republican party at the federal level.

To be honest, I am curious as to see what the government would do if, say, at least 40% of the country refused to pay their taxes in protests of the removal of the ACA. We may have a lot of prisons, but... who's going to pay for them to keep open without taxpayers?

It's actually more like not eating meat because there's none in the house and you can't be arsed going to the shops, but posting on the Internet that you're doing it to protest the meat industry.

It's a sad state of affairs. No one would have even known about Rpgcazied's "protest" if they hadn't posted on GAF about it. There's a word for that: slacktivism.
 
I got an interview tomorrow at 11. To be honest, even if I didn't have that interview I wouldn't go protest.

Don't do well in crowds.

Getting people together to protest gets them involved and organized to vote. If people care enough to protest, most likely they will care enough to vote. It creates a feeling of togetherness, a feeling of unity for a cause. Much like Trump's rallies did.

Protesting is as much about the protesters as much as it is for the cause. Either way, not sure why people want to crap on people who are making a stand and not just tweeting or posting about being mad. So many people I know will hit that RT button, but not put any real effort into supporting stances they agree with. I am not protesting this weekend due to some obligations, but I made sure to donate to a fund that paid for buses transporting people protesting in Austin this weekend.

I usually have the news on playing in the background. I didn't know inaugural events would start today. Guess I'll just have some movies playing in the background instead. I don't even want to dignify this.
