I just... I don't think this makes any sense at all. Was Obama just a dream? Was the majority of the population just asleep in 2008 and 2012?
Maybe I'm just crazy and too "optimistic", and I don't want to offend anyone here, but I really truly don't believe that the majority of people who voted for Trump are racist extremists. I disagree with pretty much all of Trump's policies (I think the GOP said they'd repeal FATCA at some point and switch to Residence-based taxation, that's the one thing I'd personally like to see done, everything else that I know of I've disagreed with), but I think a lot of people who voted for him voted either selfishly in SPITE of his more controversial policies, or they simply didn't believe they would have the impact they are already proving to have.
I also think it's pretty much a certainty that a lot of people are already being swayed in the other direction, and shaming them and calling them nazis or idiots can be tempting, but I also think it's a terrible idea.
But what say do I even really get in this, I'm a Canadian anyway.
Must not have watched to the end.
one person agreeing with the video does not absolve it of all criticism
I see you lcolin.
The entire country doesn't vote, not even close, so elections come down to which side can mobilize and impassion their people the best. Obama did a fantastic job of mobilizing young people on the left in 08 and 12. The Republicans, in turn, were able to impassion their side over the course of the next 8 years by using the simple fact that Obama was black to make everything he did seem "UnAmerican" and turn him into an outsider who was out to destroy the country and turn them into muslim communist zombies from kenya. Basically, the GOP is regularly able to mobilize their base using racism, which says a lot.
Once again, my real name is Colin; it's a coincidence.
I disagree with Colin on many things, like the PS4 Pro and TLG, but I guess because my name happens to be Colin, I can't have an unbiased opinion, right?

See, I don't know about Moriarty, but he's probably better than you at picking up when people are just making a lighthearted joke.
You defended Colin, your username was colin, 'omgomg conspiracy, it's you!'. Must've been one of the least ... 'tense' exchanges in this entire thread.![]()
It was funny when it happened for the first time like 5 months ago, lol. That may have been a joke.
I don't really understand it either. If you've seen what Republicans have become and still identify yourself as a part of them, it'd be weird not to vote for Trump, not the other way around. Heck, I think that line of thought is supported by the poll statistics. This guy calls himself a conservative?
well, i disagreed with fingerpointing towards the Druckmann tweet as well. This tweet just reinforces my belief that Colin (whom both devs certainly know personally - Druckmann more than Ismail, i think) is certainly meaning well, but is just being 'clumsy' with his suggestions of how to 'reach out', which some of us would consider showing a lack of empathy and rather naive.
Something they seem to be able to overlook, in the grand scheme of things. I can totally accept that.

Also work's been pretty stressful lately, so I'm fuckin' unhinged.

Five months is an exaggeration. Note the "like" in my post.Join Date: 11-20-2016

Re was Obama just a dream:
Many young people voted for Obama under the impression that he would be a Sanders-like change in the political status-quo, especially when it comes to the use of force, only to become disillusioned with him and the party over time. Many Obama voters were independents who wouldn't normally vote for Democrats (or Republicans), instead preferring third-party choices like Nader or just staying home. So comparisons between his electoral totals vs Hillary needs to be seen through that lens (as well as many other differences).
Five months is an exaggeration, lol. I'm just inexperienced at dealing with this sort of stuff on GAF, so apologies in advance.I guess they haven't been following you for 5 months so they don't know if it's the first or the 100th time.
I think you may be right, because of how much people in the industry (those who make games/those who cover games) have never shied away from giving Colin praise. When the various girlfriends of the KF guys did a special podcast together, Tim's girlfriend Gia, who is basically the anti-Colin politically, said that he is one of the kindest people she's ever met and said that, despite their political differences, he was so respectful and wanted to hear her beliefs (most of which challenged his own).
If anyone wants to see Colin at his rawest, check out his appearance on Jared Petty's Pockets Full of Soup. It was some very heartfelt stuff, you don't typically hear from him (Greg's was good, too).
Colin actually has said in 2008 he voted for Obama over McCain. Though, he's made it clear, that's not how he voted in 2012.
Yeah. Again, i know that Colin is a smart guy. As i've posted before, smart guys - especially smart conservatives, but also smart leftists always argue how things should work - because they believe that a good idea / a good concept simply should work.
The free market, as a concept, should totally work, in principle.
Everyone being taxed as fairly and as low as possible, and tax dollars being spent efficiently, should totally work, in principle.
Everyone abiding the law, should totally work, in principle.
Even communism, should totally work, in principle.
If you are so in love with those textbook concepts ("Ayn Rand shaped my political beliefs") that they ignore the reality:
What makes all these seemingly flawless concepts not work, is simply ... people. People are fallible, people are selfish, people have herd mentality, people like being on top and are willing to put down others to lift themselves up.
Similarly:
Both sides in poltical discourse reaching out, being respectful, should totally work, in principle.
But in reality, there's people openly dehumanizing genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities and entire religions...
There are shitloads of people- even progressives- who voted for Obama who nonetheless have ignorant or outright hostile views about black people as a whole (ignorant racism is still racism), in the same way that Madam CJ Walker becoming the first self-made black millionaire back in the 1800s didn't mean white people didn't have a problem with the rest of the recently-freed slaves, or even with Walker herself.
Individual exception and achievement on part of minorities is not an indication of the cultural norm that those minorities experience. This is an argument that is self-evident. If you do want some sort indication of cultural norms, look at polling and statistical analysis which, surprise surprise, show a majority of Trump voters tend to have extremely hostile racial views. Imagine that the guy scapegoating brown people as having stolen the American Dream from innocent, good-natured white folk would appeal to the section of our population that's more racist than the norm!
Regardless, "a majority" doesn't mean "all," which means for the Trump voters who pass the "are they called black people or negroes?" test, we're back to the argument of what the election meant from a moral or ethical context. If you vote for a racist in spite of their racist views, if you ignore Trump calling Mexican rapists because you think you're getting a tax cut, you cannot easily argue that you aren't aiding and abetting the spread of racism from that government's platform. At the absolute best, you don't care about the quality of life of minorities, which at the end of the day still has the same effect as voting to actively instill harm on minority communities. Apathy to evil aids evil. To run away from the implications of this is to not take responsibility for your vote. It is childish. It eschews individual responsibility. It is hypocritical. It needs to stop. All Trump voters who "didn't vote for the racist things" need to self-reflect hard. If they're not, they're no better than the actual racists.
Couple all of this with the absolute social, systemic, and diplomatic disaster that has only resulted from less than two weeks of his administration being in office, and the unrelenting shame is the least Trump voters deserve. I honestly hope that every time they buy something from a vending machine from now on, their shit gets stuck. I hope every piece of tape they pull from the roll bunches in on itself. I hope they always step on a Lego in the middle of the night. I hope they all get glitterbombed daily. I hope every time it rains they can't find their umbrella. I hope dogs continuously shit in their yard. I hope their favorite games only score an 8.8 from now on.
"I hope they miss everything cool in life and die angry."
Interesting that Colin seemed offended that even though he didn't vote for Trump, he felt attacked by the 2064 tweet ("If you voted for trump or support his facist regime please don't play our game.. Just go fuck off!"). Hmm.
"Even though I didn't vote for Mr Trump, the creator of the game doesn't want people like me playing it at all."
Where was he targeted if he didn't vote for Trump?

He left the Republican party. Also, technically, being a Conservative does not automatically make one a Republican. There are such things as Liberal Republicans and Conservative Democrats, but they are not as common as Conservative Republicans and Liberal Democrats. I wonder what things would be like if Conservative Democrats and Liberal Republicans became their own parties.
Love them, but ND have anything but progressive with regards to POC.Pretty surprised to see Neil Druckman praise this since it basically boils down to "give the racist mysogynists a chance" seeing as how much progress naughty dog has made in regards to women in the industry and given Trumps comments and actions towards women. I wonder if he watched it to the end...
Anyway if one more pseudo-intellectual white boy tells me I just have to be nice to the Nazis I'm gonna blow a stack

This guy calls himself a conservative?
So, according to GAF , EVERYONE on the right is a racist, bigoted Homophobic Xenophobe eh?...
I didn't vote for Trump or Hillary simply because I want to see a rise for a third party.. My wife however feels very strongly about abortion and planned parenthood in general. Same with my father. He feels that his tax dollar shouldn't support something he feels so strongly about.. Now my wife is a very loving person. not racist, in the least bit. She doesn't even like racial jokes regardless who the punchline is about.. The same can be said about my mother and father.. I would love to tell you about the time growing up in New York and I said the "N" word at 6 years old .. Hell I didn't know what it meant .. I got the living shit kicked out of me by both my parents...
My wife, who's spent lot's of time and money doing charity work for United Way, March of Dimes as well as other local events.Yeah what a "bitch" right? But you know what.. According to GAF, my wife and parents are "cunts" that should "fuck off" right... This site man.. SMH...
Misguided opinion on the 2064 ROM tweet. The fascists and Nazi's can't be reasoned with or "turned" so it's not even worth trying to cater to them. Fuck em.
Stay wrong, Colin

I watched Trump say the "abortion law has been set and I think we have to leave it that way". and said prior to that in the same interview he'd like it be on each state if the law was to change. He might attempt to but its not looking likely.

Thought it was a nice balanced video, surprised to see so many people hating on this. He had a lot of good points.
Alright guys, lets keep it easy with the insults or non-GAF KF fans are going to tweet at him "that GAF thread huh?" and then he will be able to continue to dismiss the site.
At the very least, he probably believes in tax cuts, which is a reason that many people voted for Trump despite not believing in his philosophies.
