*=Preliminary

Yesterday, February 07, 2017, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) streamed a countdown on Twitch. The countdown started approximately 06:30 PM Eastern time, and counted down from 137 hours, 31 minutes and 7 seconds. The stream lasted for 7 hours, 21 minutes and 17 seconds. The end time of the countdown if I have calculated it correctly would be Monday, February 13, 2017, 12:01:07 AM Eastern time. But likely ending February 13 anyhow.

They also tweeted twice about the stream:

We're the only ones playing #E3 on @Twitch right now... https://www.twitch.tv/esagames #E32017 #E3isComing

Now, one can wonder what this is counting down to. The first thing that springs to mind is opening of registration (which in the past has happened the December preceding E3), so that's what I am going to watch for anyway. FZZ posted in January this year about invites/registration not being active, and I have seen other sharing "concerns" about this too. On January 30, 2017, ESA tweeted this:

I can share a few things (more if there's interest for some marketing assets) about E3 2017:

  • The E3 2017 registration page by CompuSystems appears nearly finished, but has yet to be activated
  • Info to exhibitors on marketing opportunities (placements of banners etc. at LACC) is available
  • A lot of documents/assets are preliminary, many are missing at the moment
At time of writing it's early morning in the offices of ESA, but perhaps they'll share more information on this before long. I don't think it is far-fetched to anticipate registration opening on February 13. It's about time anyway in my opinion.

Do you plan to attend E3 2017?

Are they adding a day or two for the general public?

That would help them financially and in matters of relevance. They need some extra leverage or they may keep losing exhibitors in the future.

They had the E3 Live event last year, that was available for the public. But that ran in parallel with E3, no days were added. Perhaps they'll have E3 Live return.

We can only hope, it would be a shame to miss out on all of the Doritos product placement, otherwise.

This will be the first E3 in a long time where I won't be expecting to see anything of The Last Guardian. Here's to long lost traditions.

We can still hope to see Shenmue 3, Kingdom Hearts 3 and FFVII Remake!

...and be disappointed when at least one of them doesn't show up.

EDIT: Should have said "again." I know all of them have been announced.

Cant believe all this. Now we move on to wantibg Wii and Wii U remasters. After that theres no more games to make guys, pack it up. Gaming had a good run.

"The average videogame player is 38 years old" wow, thats new to me. Alway thought the avg was likely 23-25.
