Not only would he get replaced, he'd probably get replaced by a hard right conservative, since he's pretty much in the middle as it is. As annoying as it is, I'd rather have him than what the other likely outcome would be.

Edit: And since no one has mentioned it, West Viriginia is coal country and Trump won it by something like 20+ points. It's not a liberal place at all.

Manchin is as far left as you can get in W. Virginia and still be elected. Don't forget that Trump won that state by more than 40 points; Manchin's constituents would have his head a pike if he doesn't give Trump the Cabinet he asks for.

This. He most likely voted for Sessions because there was already enough Republican support for him to be confirmed. This is him basically covering his ass among his electorate but if his vote could deny Sessions the confirmation he would have voted against him.

Not everyone thinks Sessions is a racist. Kudos to Manchin for being his own man and not buying the propaganda on Sessions.
