Disney cuts ties with PewDiePie after he posts antisemetic videos

Calling someone deluded is an insult and I'm not saying people aren't influenced at all by the media, I'm saying this is so tame compared to what they will encounter on a daily basis it will not make an impact.

I don't think you're delusional I just disagree with you it's called an opinion many people you encounter in life will have one it doesn't make them delusional either.

Forget it man, this isn't going anywhere.

The more a subject is taboo to joke about, the more kids find it edgy and funny. I mean, when I grew up I heard kids making 9/11 jokes pretty soon after the fact. And yes, faggot and Jew were common generic insults I heard back then. Kids didn't even know what a Jew was, they just knew it was something Cartman called Kyle as an insult.

When people like PewDiePie still make tasteless jokes like that, I just think they haven't grown up from that phase or developed a sense of humor mature enough to put an ironic and self aware twist to it. Saying he's a Nazi is a bit much. Kids just think joking about taboo subjects is edgy and cool.

I'm not sure I follow, to be honest. You said I was giving humanity to much credit by assuming they might not align themselves with the most obviously carricatured images of Nazism, ones that can easily be construed as satire rather than support.

I said that I have to give humanity some credit, because they get to vote to and just dismissing them as idiots or bigots won't help make things better. But this is naive? Whatis better, to just sit here calling them nazis while the world goes to shit?

What's you're counter proposal?

Because we and people of your same think already gave them the benefit of the doubt and they literally did align themselves with these caricatures. They already won. Now is the time to put a stop to this shit and let people know this it is not ok and not normal. You are literally playing catch up, you are not going to be a part of the solution if you keep trying to drag people back and normalize alt right and Nazi propaganda. There is no discussion to be had about the merits of anti-Semitic jokes, white nationalism or bigotry. Once you do that you've already legitimized them.

I never said he was funny.

There doesn't seem to be malicious intent behind the jokes he made. Which is what would separate a comedian from a nazi.

No malicious intent? Wow....the lengths people go to man. What does it take for people to understand how bad this stuff can be?

I can see where you're coming from. From my position, I'd rather lean toward niavety than cynicism. I'd rather end up being wrong in the long run but have tried to do something than simply sat there watching the world turn to shit and say 'told you so'.

I'm not going to make an assumption on your age but I'll say this - I'm now 31, grew up on some of the punk ideals of questioning authority and art that tries to point out the lies society is being fed. At this point I've tempered most of my more extreme views and settled on a certain veneer of cynicism that enables me to not be surprised when pieces of shit act like pieces of shit.

I can't view the world like you as I've witnessed power and money hungry officials lie and cheat their way to the top. The world isn't in the shutter but we have Trump as president and Theresa May as PM and the media is full of bullshit news and propaganda enabling these things. Some people have to earn respect and understanding or any level of optimism from me,it's not a given

No malicious intent? Wow....the lengths people go to man. What does it take for people to understand how bad this stuff can be?

So do you think Louis CK really hates Jews and women when he makes jokes about them? What about when he makes jokes about black people?

There clearly isn't malicious intent, but that doesn't remove his responsibility.

He needs to wake up now, if he caries on it won't matter what his intent is he'll be choosing to enable this shit knowing full well the impact it's having.

To this point I think there's an argument to be made he wasn't really thinking, that he was too invested in the persona, and that he really thought it was all "just a joke".

That time's past.

Didn't he also drop the F-bomb in more than a handful of his videos? iirc it was in a Happy Wheel's let's play, bare minimum.

I mean, except for Jewish kids, so, uh

There was no malicious intent, unless your saying that PewDiePie secretly wanted all Jews to die, he tried to be funny and he failed.
More like he intended to be funny by crafting a joke that implies malicious intent, he may not have intended malice, but he failed miserably at conveying it, why?

Because the shits offensive regardless the intent... man some people's empathy algorithms are fucked

Kind of ironic considering Disney once made this.

Well put.

But did you watch the video? He has shown nazi and anti-semite imagery and crap in 9 videos, not just this one.
Well now I'm curious about the other videos and what he showed since I haven't seen them.. I think. It depends what he showed, how it was shown and context since he's known to troll and shoot the shit on the regular in his videos.

This persecution complex that people have where they take things too far where it's 'person is the biggest piece of shit in the world' or 'you're excusing x issue' like there's nothing in between. It's just annoying and usually conversations turn into shit like this topic.

There clearly isn't malicious intent...
Why is this the go-to disclaimer for folks - as if it's ok for someone to say something that most people would find offensive/malicious if they don't intend malice..

Successful people will say/do damn near anything to maintain their credibility..he knew he would get a reaction, that's why he thought of, and made it happen.

People who do this shit, then come out and apologize for it after the fact is akin to someone hurting their spouse - bad, then apologizing only to do it/or something else again... Can't fool me PewDiePoop

While I understand he didn't mean any harm I think this is a good lesson to learn. The fact he made 9 DIFFERENT jokes is where I find he took it too far. His biggest fan base is kids and teens so its easy to see how he could be a bad influence on them with his "jokes". I understand he's very satirical but when you satirize the same thing over and over repeatedly it makes you seem genuine.

Nice selective quoting there dude.

I can't say if he does or doesn't. That's my point. I'm honestly not sure. And that in of itself is a problem.

Lowkey when I saw snippets of his videos with this content in it I was waiting to see which company that he has ties with leaves him first and how quickly, kinda surprised on how long it took

The Holocaust isn't a joke.
Fascism isn't a joke.

Even YouTube kids have to realize this.

Yup, just because the internet has tried to normalise something, doesn't mean you get to step outside your safe, racist bubble and not face real world consequences.

What a tool. Sucks to be him right now, but I'm not exactly in the spirit to feel sorry for someone that makes those kinds of "jokes". Antisemitism seems to be either growing or revealing itself at an alarming rate, and making light of shit like the Holocaust isn't helping anyone by the alt-right.

I'm so glad none of the people I follow on Youtube have this kind of mindset. Even if PDP isn't drinking the alt-right Kool-aid, these kinds of "jokes" still normalize antisemitism, which should be one of the least normal things to believe in.

Please let others follow. Good riddance.
There are a ton of other people who can do the exact same thing, and probably even better. Never cared for the guy.

Don't really agree with that, but I agree that Disney and YT have every right to do what they're doing. I feel like he new he was playing with fire, and either didn't care, or wanted to see how far he could push things.

Impotaku, are you trolling dude? Or did you just see that image and post it without knowing anything at all about its context?

I'm not, and I'm really glad it has done. Dude needed a wake up call, imo.

I'm aware of it's context, i probably should have used songs of the south as my example. Disney isn't some morally pure corporation. Pewdiepie should rightfully be getting shit over this as "just jokes" doesn't excuse it but having Disney take some moral high ground i find rather ironic due to their past.

I'm really not surprised, because his videos always have a sense of humor that would not please a company like Disney. Honestly, I never understood how he ended up being the top subscribed YT channel as his content is nothing special imo. Obviously, this company partnered with him for the viewer reach opposed to the content and then realized it could be damaging their brand more then helping it.

man, you would have had a better argument citing Walt Disney's anti-semetism rather than some anti-Nazi propaganda from 70+ years ago.

And even then, Disney has been long dead. Trying to smear a company over something from decades ago isn't exactly a compelling argument.

You don't agree as in you think that the Holocaust is a joke or you don't agree as in you don't think that children should be taught that the Holocaust isn't a joke?

Either way, wow.

Just watched the vid and he seems genuinely shocked and upset when the poster gets unrolled. No idea why he'd continue to upload the vid, for that very act alone he deserves to get whatever's coming to him. Fucking Youtubers will do anything just for some views, you'd think the most popular one out of all of them would be above this shit.

J.K. Rowling retweeted an article about this. Love the ignorant responses she's getting.

"It's just satire!"
"You have no idea about what satire means!"
"It's just a joke!"

You haven never watched it, have you.
I actually think it's a great post, because most people haven't seen the actual videos from PewDiePie either and so don't understand the context. Like the one video where PewDiePie puts a image of Hitler and wears a MAGA hat. If you actually watch the damn thing you know it wasn't Nazi propaganda.

Come on. No you weren't or your wouldn't have even thought to use it as an example lol

Good , another less idiot in the world. Made millions with useless things to say all the time. crazy how you can go so high and fall so low..
