Disney cuts ties with PewDiePie after he posts antisemetic videos

He has repeatedly made anti-semitic statements. It wasn't once or twice. What he posted and did is literally definition of hate speech.

Throw in repeated n word jokes and it makes him at the least sympathetic to white supremacist views and at worst a racist and anti-semite.

Did he? Two of the supposed anti-semitic videos are ones where he specifically parodies drama channels and the youtube heroes campaigns as nazis. He's calling other people nazis with it, not really engaging in actual nazi propaganda.

He is wearing and glorifying Nazi paraphernalia. Calling other people Nazis while doing "Heil Hitler" isn't particularly funny.

Y'know, I think to resolve all this PewDiePie problem, Felix has to do a new channel, no, not to clean up his image, but to make the content he wants.

Something along the lines of "PewDiePie After Dark" and post all the edgy content in there with a warning for minors or PC people that the content could not fit with some of the people's points of views.

Because the main channel, if he keeps posting his dark stuff it will only be criticized by the most minor thing it happens. That channel is poisoned. Yes, it would mean that 53+ million people will not see some of the new content, but he can easily make 10+ million subs with the same kind of content he's making.

Main channel could be kept to upload gameplays or "Fridays with PewDiePie" but posted with less frequency.

It might not be, but it isn't anti-semitic either. Are all jokes where anyone dresses up as a Nazi to make fun of someone else they consider a nazi anti-semitic? If a comedy show has someone dressed as Bannon or Trump while using Nazi paraphernalia is that anti-semitic?

What? Where? Sources?

Throw in repeated n word jokes and it makes him at the least sympathetic to white supremacist views and at worst a racist and anti-semite.

What the..?

You better provide real sources for your huge accusations, I mean shouldn't be so hard, you should find them all on his YouTube channel.

Now more in general:

I noticed this for quite some time, but it looks like some people her on Neogaf just wait for the next huge Pewdiepie thread to pop up, just so they can throw all their "Hope his career is finished, he's not even funny" remarks at him and feel better afterwards.

Now I don't want to compare this issue with the last PDP drama, but the thread about him deleting his channel was full this shit.

And well, when we have people here who state they didn't even watch the video in question, or informed themselves about the issue and just start hate talking about him... it's hard to start serious conversations about this.

Youtube stars really trigger a lot of people. Check out the thread for the guy waiting in line for Switch for a month.

So I watched the video. Was this really necessary for him to do? Like what does he get out of this? Is he just in it to say dumb shit just because?

Play a stupid game. Win a stupid prize.

- No but he thought it was funny, instead the joke was shit and the casual viewer never understands insider jokes so it was taken out of context, and here we are.

- Views, that's why he posts videos about anything

- Since 2016, yes, it's now a rare occurrence he plays a game.

- He did, but he might not care except for the office. He's been against Youtube's politics for a long time and he's one of the first on calling out YT.

good on h3h3 to provide some critical thinking in a world where mass media doesn't even bother to try to be accurate or providing real news

the rise of neo-nazism ain't a joke. unfortunately pewdiepie is the subject of a witch hunt. but there's no doubt he's in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong joke. oh well.

It is all jokes until he is running for president with an army of "why can't we say what we want to say" youths behind him.

Many youtube celebs make their money off of these people and you have to remember there are millions and millions invested in every move that is made.

A joke? It isn't a joke when you have a marketing department and long term strategies.

that ending of his video slayed me. because of how true it is. Look at some the folks who post immediately after an article is posted on here only to clearly see they only read the thread title.
The crazy thing is, I expect this sorta stuff from Facebook comments and article comments, but from what I've seen GAF has usually been very into seeing the receipts before they judge. But Youtubers (the guy queueing a month early for the switch) really bring people out of the salt mines :/

I think we've been reading different forums.

He made a bad anti-semetic joke, but Walt Disney was an actual anti-semetic. Quite ironic. Also, this guy used to fill his channel with rape jokes, this isn't much worse.

Check the first page of every "scandal type" of thread ever made in this forum.

it really depends

a thread about a youtuber came to mind. It's really interesting to see the swing of when this happened

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1327008&highlight=plane

that thread title was not the original title. That was after the facts came out

Uhhh... Off-Topic hasn't been like that for years. Moderates are as bad as the alt-right, if not worse. Ends justify the means. Guilty until proven innocent etc. I've honestly been disillusioned. I respect the hell out the consensus GAF reaches usually. But damn, it often feels like pragmatism has no place anymore.

da fuq?

We must have different versions of gaf.

Lol that stupid H3H3 video may address people who thought he was an actual anti-Semite, but it does nothing to address the fact that this is an example of something done in abysmally bad taste, and then subsequently defended with "it's just a joke."

Lol yep and most people find the joke to be really fucking stupid, and others will be judging you based on that. Grow up and stop crying about how your shitty sense of humor made people think you're a monster instead of just a moron.

you must live in bizarro world

He does not look to be a neo nazi ... he is just not thinking about how the content he produces can be misinterpreted by the people who watch his videos

And by that he is irresponsible at best

i'm just glad there are some gatekeepers out there to call out this youtuber's bs antics, even though this pewdiepie guy is probably not an honest-to-god nazi. maybe the wsj article was clickbait-y, but they didn't make up the nazi imagery in the guy's videos. like i said, guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong joke. of course the h3h3 guy goes hard in on the defense as they're co-producers. but pewdiepie has only himself to blame for his recent losses.

Fair enough, but to label the guy a fuckin nazi or racist is ridiculous. I like how you breeze by that point as if that wasn't the fuckin crux of this whole thing.

That sure was a waste of eight min of my life. The defense for him is embarrassing.

I mean, Ethan ran to Jontron's defense on Twitter, so I wouldn't really expect much in the way of unbiased opinions from him on this matter.

Honestly though, the H3H3 video *may* have swayed some people who were gung-ho to call PDP a Nazi or whatever, but it's not going to do anything to dissuade people from other opinions about his behavior (that he's anti-Semitic, is normalizing hate, etc.).

Yeah, this thread didn't get to 29 pages on the basis that someone just made a bad joke, and the articles posted are all based on claiming anti-semitism too.

He made the case for why PewDiePie isnt' a white supremacist anti-semitic bigot, and he succeeded at it. What about the defense was so embarassing, exactly?

Lol that stupid H3H3 video may address people who thought he was an actual anti-Semite...

I don't watch Pewdiepie but of course I came across the news. However, I wanted to see what he actually said and the context. I'm really just now finding out, as the best I'd found before the H3H3 video was the Wall Street Journal video. And I could just tell something was off about the WSJ one.

The thread title itself is about him being an anti-Semite. I don't know how you can call H3H3's video stupid, let alone in the same breath as you state that it helps people realize Pewdiepie is not actually an anti-Semite.

they wont, because they already made their point. even if they do, nothing will change

see? its not like a video can de-hate people of somebody

Forbes:

"Felix Kjellberg (PewDiePie) has posted nine videos featuring anti-Semitic comments or Nazi imagery, the Wall Street Journal reports. These include a video of men paid by Kjellberg to hold up a sign reading “Death to All Jews” (Kjellberg later referred to this as a joke gone too far) and another with a man dressed as Jesus who says, “Hitler did nothing wrong.” Multiple videos feature swastikas, while another includes photos of Hitler, with Kjellberg wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap. The Nazism has expanded to audio: In a January 14 video he played the Nazi Party anthem, and in a February 5 video he features a “Sieg Heil” voiceover. "

Please proceed.

Pewdiepie is not a racist or a Natzi, maybe immature, maybe in bad taste but wtf? A Natzi?? People calling him out for saying the n-word??? When did this happen? The "hitler" video was him as a character of who the media portrays him as. Man... I cant believe how guliable so many people are.

Weird, that's exactly what made me entirely disillusional with the left in general, Gaf included.

Didn't another user say he said the n-word or something? Maybe you need to take a step back. First of all, making up lies is not cool.

Secondly, what he said was not in good taste, but you're clinging on out of context examples, step away from the article and take a look at the source content. Hes parodying what the media portrays him to be "A racist Natzi", and they are sketches. He's not promoting Hitler.

Really hate this trend of people jumping on people, and throwing in one or two of there own lies.

Edit: Looks like that was a different user, but my points still stand.

Context: Parody of Drama channels, comparing drama channels to nazis. He even photoshops Scarce's logo (a drama channel) into Hitler's armband. He's calling Drama Channels Nazis and characterising Trump supporters as Nazis too.

"man dressed as Jesus who says, "Hitler did nothing wrong.""
Context: This was after the fiver video. He was talking about how the indian dudes and the jesus dude were banned after his video. He was puzzled about the ban of the jesus dude: he didn't make the jesus dude say anything offensive in his video. He then checks the videos of the jesus dude and discovers that someone had made the jesus dude say the phrase "Hitler did nothing wrong", so discovering the actual reason for the ban of the jesus dude. He further clarifies that he wasn't the person that paid the Jesus dude to say that.

"February 5 video he features a "Sieg Heil" voiceover. "
Context: Jokes about the press calling him a nazi, by stopping the video in a motion where he lowers his arm and you can freeze-frame to make it look like the nazi salute. The words "Nazi confirmed" appear on screen and sieg heil sound plays, to mock how people continously take him out of context to label him as nazi.

Even with the edit you still won the irony award for today.

He has a problem, which is why Disney acted. Context is important but so is timing and intent and he has messed it up. That is the simple fact, alternative or otherwise.
