New Super Bomberman R footage - appears 60 fps?

Until you put the same games running in different FPS side by side I am completely incapable of telling the difference.

And sometimes even then I can't tell especially when we get into weird values that are not 30 and 60.

edit: seems I'm not alone people here are actually arguing about what the fps is.

I don't think this is 60fps. I brought the 60p youtube clip into Adobe Premiere and gave each frame a look. The uploaded video is 60fps, and it just gives that impression by the frame interpolation. If you watch it frame by frame you'll see blurred/mixed frames in both Bomerman (30fps) and Zelda (30fps), where in Mario Kart 8DX (60fps) you can really count each individual frame.

The game still looks good, and I'm glad to hear the load times are getting improved. They were horrible at the Switch event.

I'm still fairly convinced that this game is targeting 60 fps for the final build because the menus/cutscenes run in 60. You can even see the 3D models animate in 60 for them. At this point though I wouldn't be surprised if they're just straight up running the commercial build in demo events so if it's not 60 now then I don't have high hopes.

At some points in the video it seems to dip into the 30fps that ran in previous builds. I can only hope it gets fixed if it is targeting 60. If it doesn't, it'll be somewhat disappointing since they can indubitably get a lot more out of the Switch than this. Not necessarily a dealbreaker, but 60 fps would be much more preferable.

It's entirely possible that this is the case.

In an entirely unnecessary move, I've cut a few seconds out of that video, slowed it down to half speed, and uploaded it to YouTube. It looks to me like the person who uploaded the video is using smearing to make it appear smoother, and the game is still running at 30.

I'd like to think they'd updated the game to a locked 60, but that would be surprising. I'm going to wait for reviews before picking it up.

That actually looks like it may be true. The smudging effect is difficult to notice because of the blurriness of the footage and the fact that the moving screen elements don't tend to move far enough at each new frame to separate themselves from the previous frame. HOWEVER, if you pause it around 28:33 and advance frame by frame, you can see the ghosting effect on the bomb that the green thing in the upper left throws. Which suggests that maybe the game still is 30 fps. Konami still confirmed as a failure!

Well now.

Maybe you'll get a "framerate analysis blew up in my face" tag.

The video itself is shot at 30FPS. You can tell from when the camera is moving, even though YouTube says it's 60.

I now believe that some people just can't tell the difference

I remember in an early thread about No Man's Sky people were confidently claiming the game ran at a 'buttery smooth' 60fps on PS4.

As much as people carry on about frame rate, when it comes to it, people seem to have a really hard time picking it.

What about street fighter?

50 bucks still expensive. Bomberman without single player is like 10 bucks on wii. 30 or 40 would be better..

Street Fighter isn't at launch. No confirmed release date. I think the confirmed online multiplayer game at launch is Bomberman. Other games are local I'm pretty sure like Skylanders and 1-2-Switch.

Mario Kart 8 is good for observing the differences in feel IMO single vs. Multi

How the fuck are we this far down the second page and still don't have a definitive answer to this?

because a 60fps video looking at a tv is super hard to tell if the footage you are looking at is 30fps? It definitely LOOKS smoother, but it will be hard to tell properly untill we see direct gameplay

Ok guys, I still think the game is clearly 60fps in that video. Here's a a 1080p60fps video of zelda running offscreen, see how the game still looks 30fps even tho the video is at 60?

Hope that will make it more clear to you.

In this case the actual off screen video is only recording at 25-30 fps. In the Bomberman video the off screen recording is at 60 fps and is also using some sort of post-processing smoothing effect which is obscured due to the blurriness of the recording.

This comparison doesn't quite work. The camera used to record this video is recording at a lower framerate than the camera used for the footage in the OP. The video is technically rendered in 60fps (mostly for the sake of Gamexplain's logo) but without the game/camera footage being interpolated it's still 30fps.

Looks like 30 fps to me honestly. It'd be nice if it actually ran t 60 fps though, I'm really looking forward to this one, it's probably my most anticipated Switch game at launch lol. Yeah, I'm not really into Zelda.

I had to take another look. Confirmed launch titles for Switch in North America:

- 1-2-Switch
- Human Resource Machine
- I Am Setsuna
- Just Dance 2017
- Little Inferno
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Skylanders: Imaginators
- Super Bomberman R
- World of Goo

Super Bomberman R is looking like another game I'll be picking up next to BOTW and if that's 30fps, it certainly has us fooled enough, which is good enough XD.

Still looks like 30 to me. I preordered this last month because of "new console" hype and I'm not really expecting much out of it tbh. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Mess. It looks the same to me. I honestly don't care if it's 30 FPS or not as I just want more bomberman. I refuse to complain about something so silly when the IP has been dormant for years. I will remain positive

I took the video

wlmJVfz.jpg

ran this

ffmpeg -ss 28:49 -i switch.mkv -to 0.25 -qscale:v 3 frames/%04d.jpg

to get 1/4 of a second's worth of frames (15):

Every frame is different. As odd as it looks, it really is running at 60 FPS.

From the man himself!

Edit: I think I misunderstood... I thought you meant you took the original video, not "took" the existing video and did something with it lol.

Looks pretty 30fps. It's Bomberman though, so it's sure to be fun. Glad I came to my senses and preordered this instead of Afterbirth+

I couldn't give a shit which it is. All this wank over 60fps can just fuck off. If the game is fun PLAY IT. Stat whoring is stupid for standardizing the quality of a game's fun. If its fun its fun. Not every title gets to break the bank in production just to benchmark higher.

60fps >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>30fps, more is better.

Well, Bomberman looks nothing like a technical achievement, 60fps is obligatory.

I don't get the NEED for 60fps in Bomberman. It'd be nice and like, I don't get why it's so hard to achieve atm, but is it really necessary?

Watch the Zelda:BOTW segment in the same video file. It appears 60fps now too.

If you look closely and inspect each frame of Bomberman (and Zelda) I noticed there are blurred mid-frames. This doesn't happen in Mario Kart 8DX being 60fps.

I could be wrong and there is a motion blur effect happening in Bomberman that I'm mistaking as frame interpolation, but I don't think so.

Well, if your execution is high enough, 60FPS is more responsive and you're less likely to get robbed for having inputted stuff accurately since the game will allow you the make that crucial corner turn at the right frames or whatever.

Not that this will help you if some asshole tosses a bomb in and you're trapped between the bomb and a wall :v

what if the tv is running motionsense or some sort of frame interpolation like most floor model tvs @ electronics stores?

Ah yeah, I didn't even consider that. That would explain the blurry parts. Welp, it's probably interpolated.

I watched it again, and some animations seem to be running at 15fps...
Just focus on the movement (29:30) of the black bomberman.

Lol the deliberating over this.. we'll find out in a week! 30FPS or 60 FPS, the game will work just fine. If it bothers people enough to not buy if it's 30FPS just wait a week and get some impressions.

It's definitely 30. Doesn't bother me though as I find the look of the game to be pretty good. I'm more interested to see the level variety and diversity of backgrounds.

I really think this game should've been a sprite-based, budget-priced title. $10-20 with awesome looking sprites in wide-screen HD, 60 fps. Everyone would be happy. It'd play better, be cheaper, have a bigger install base, and arguably even look better!
